Appalled by him stating the challenge by McManaman was a fair challenge. He shouldn't be allowed to run a football club after comments like that.

I heard that on 5 Live. I've always had a lot of respect for DW, but his comments were bang out of order.

I think because DW went through the same if not worse scenario , he is better placed to judge the mentality of players , horror tackles etc etc...

Whelan denied McManaman's tackle was reckless in answer to a question, then added: "When I broke my leg in the cup final it was exactly the same type of tackle.

"We both went for the ball. It brought back memories. It ruined my career. I am not going to criticise Norman Deeley.

"These things happen in football. He came over the ball but he didn't do it with the aim of breaking my leg."

Got to agree with DW here.

I don't think any footballer makes a tackle with the aim of breaking someone's leg. That isn't the debate. What I can't get my head round is someone saying it was a fair challenge when he made contact with his knee!!!

He is the best Owner/Chairman in the Country. Every club needs a Dave Whelan, he is usually spot on with his opinions etc.

I thought Graham Polls comments on talkSPORT were also out of order.

More or less saying it was time for Mark Halsey to retire.

Bit much I thought coming from someone who showed a player three yellow cards in one game.

The Wigan boy, got the ball 1st and unfortunately got the knee 2nd.

Not much can be done to be honest . Ban going for balls that bounce higher than a player's shin?

Because the media are screaming for his head I imagine the FA will dish out a retrospective red card to Mcmanaman finding the courage they lacked when confronted by Rio Ferdinand's assault on Torres last week.

Feel a bit sorry for the Wigan player, he didn't mean to hurt the player. Whelan and Martinez have both commented how the young lad is struggling to come to terms with being a professional footballer. So much so that I believe Martinez told him in advance of the Huddersfield game that he wasnt playing so he didn't get worked up and stressed before the game. Worked wonders though as he had the game of his life.

I also felt sorry for him as I don't think it was malicious. Think that's why Whelan is trying to support 'one of his own'.

Mind you, if he'd done that to one of my teammates I probably would have been red carded in response.

from the first view it looked a fair tackle and I presume thats the view the ref got..the replays show it wasn't so good but seen plenty tackles worse than that

If I see a couple of similar tackles from Brentford players on Saturday and we come away with three points I will be delighted.

I've seen plenty.

I saw Rowlands go over the top and then spit at the bloke afterwards. Simon Ratcliffe two-footed an Oxford player, almost breaking both his legs. Gary Blisset on John Uzzell?? There must be loads more.....

It's not "right" but what are you going to do - go to Craven Cottage instead?

i remember Hermann's debut well, he launched into a proper two-footed tackle and everyone went "oooooh", half-hoping there wasn't an injury or a red card... and then a big cheer, "come on Bees, get into em!!" :cool:

apparently the Newcastle lad had been struggling to come to terms with being a professional footballer too, but luckily he won't have to worry about that now eh :rolleyes:

Go and watch Fulscum............ go wash your mouth out ;) As to Rowlands.... well that sums the c##t up just like he spat at us in a way. Just saying I wouldn't want to see that happening at GP or LR that's all.

I know I know, I'm just saying what they said! Could be 2 careers that ended on Sunday though which would be sad for all concerned.

Can understand Whelan's comments. It seems obvious to me that McManaman didnt go into the tackle meaning to hurt the player.

Whereas David Luiz on Jake Reeves did, yet silence from the authorities.

The result of the tackle is what happens in football from time to time. It is not nice but it does happen.

The Wigan player (IMO) had no intention of what happened but it happened because both went for a knee high ball.

I fully understand Whelans comments and have no problem with them.

You can't blame them really, with the distance involved and the fact it's at Wembley (they might return there for the final), it's too much expense. Would be interesting to know how many they took to the League Cup final in 2006.
