That's my take on him - we played some wonderful football under him (no I wasn't one of the fans that wrote a letter to him not to take the Southampton job) but then as you say turned into a ****

Southend owner Vic Jobson had his number from day one, got him to focus on the football only and not the cash register and that’s why they fell out.

Unfortunately, Martin Lange wanted to get his loans back and actively encouraged his meddling.

Unware of this but whenever I think of ML, all I can remember is him approving knocking down the Royal Oak and replacing it with the Wendy Stand. Even then when I was a very young boy - one felt GP wouldn't ever be the same again. I haven't ever looked deep into the reasons behind this and whether it was due to save the club from financial ruin.

I’d spent a good chunk of that afternoon cutting up sheets of paper with those notes on them. I reckon I had several hundred in my pockets by the time I went through the GP turnstiles.
