Deep Heat

As well as the seemingly perfect emerlald green turf, one of my abiding memories of standing at the front of The Oak as a youngster watching a cold winter's night game, was the pungent smell of Deep Heat as the Likes of Len Bond, Danis Salman, Jim McNichol, Barry Tucker, Doug Allder, Steve Phillips etc. ran out to warm up!!! ?
Ever since then I'm transported back to those magical nights under the lights at GP whenever I get a similar whiff!!! ?
However the times this happens are getting less and less, so I was wondering whether modern day players still use it or something similar?
Standing where I do now in the upper West Stand I can't tell!!
Can anyone pitch side confirm??!!

Deep Heat

It was white liniment or winter green oil.
I think now they use a massage gel without the lovely smell.
As you, I used to love the smell and used the stuff back in my playing days, many years ago.
Now its Voltorol or Deep Heat to ease the pain!

Deep Heat

White Horse Oil.
Know exactly what you mean @badgerbee
Impossible not to be transported back.
Stunk to high heaven but used to slather it on pre-match, but god knows why.
Possibly to mask the stench from the sewers underneath the Boston Manor changing rooms?
Was thinking the same but at Gunnersbury Park, not the sewers but the rancid smell in the changing rooms.

Tip...don't go for a pee after using Deep Heat or you will soon know about it as one of our new players did in a Sunday League game..everyone fell about laughing as he didn't know what Deep Heat was.....he soon found out.:ROFLMAO:

Deep Heat

Reminds me of years ago when I played football, after the game I had back pain so rubbed in some Deep Heat, this didn't work
so I tried White Horse Linament this didn't work and I came out in a rash which I assumed to be a clash of the two treatments,
turned out in the end it was Shingles.

Deep Heat

Enjoyed their first two albums but IMHO they went downhill after that ill-conceived studio album they made with Sting on Martinique ?

Deep Heat

My mind first went to Spud in Trainspotting, but that was probably Ralgex.
Ouch!

Nearly 70 now but well remember the routine. Rub horse linement we'll into both feet . Strap each ankle tight with a bandage or tight ankle support. Then kick Anything!
