Derek McInnes Next Manager?

yeah you right but he impressed the board apparently cant see him geting the job tho

Di Matteo great, McInnes fine but why on earth would we prefer Justin F****** Edinburgh over Nicky Forster. Somebody must be having a laugh!

Our CEO was his agent once.. a link perhaps?

Derek McInnes Next Manager?

Slightly off topic but the "Saintees" message board thread about this has one post where a local radio station mentioned Mr Benham is worth £900,000,000!!! News to me!

No idea how much he's worth but any man that can make the kind of charitable donations that he's apparently made to sport relief over the last few years has serious cash. I would guess he's worth more than many appreciate and is the reason why McInnes is even talking to us.

Clough isn't leaving Derby. Why would Di Matteo want to go to Derby when he didn't want to go to Coventry?

Hasselbaink obviously didn't impress the board if he's not on their alleged shortlist (got to be sceptical about Edinburgh too).

Do you often have so much trouble adding two and two..? :D

Derby is a much bigger club with more potential than Coventry who have been stagnant for about a decade. I think Di Matteo would love the opportunity to manage a club like Derby.....or Brentford of course!

I know most of you don't look at Scottish football but you need to remember that BBC Scotland focus most of their attention on either the blue or green bigots. For such a big organisation they make so many errors on match reports its unreal.

McInnes is still under contract for another 2 years.

hoots mon! thanks for the info old chap. how would you feel about losing him?

Derek McInnes Next Manager?

he is a football person - that is why we didn't go down the director of football route. we already have one in him (mr mills.)

Interesting that he used to represent Justin Edinburgh.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who refuses to take sides in their obnoxious rivalry. And we are also well used to BBC factual errors. If they cannot get details right regarding a club like ours just a few miles from BBC HQ, then there is not much chance for anyone else. The Premier League is all that matters to them.

I am quite excited that McInnes might be coming here. I know some Bees are underwhelmed, probably those who think we should have been a little more generous to Nicky Forster. The way I see it, if I was on the recruitment panel, and one of the applications was from an SPL manager who is up for a new challenge, he would definitely get at least an interview.

It was going to happen sooner or later in my view. Id rather it happened at this time of year rather than mid season so we have time to get a replacement and he can sign his own players.

Geoff Brown tends to have a good eye for a managers so I am sure we will be ok and the better the likes of Coyle and McInnes do the better managers we will attract as they see us as a stepping stone to the Premiership via the Championship or in this case League 1.

How rich is your owner? Radio Scotland had an interview with Robbie Neilson who was very complementary about your club but he also stated that your owner had 900m in the bank, So how much do you have to spend as if your loaded I can then see the attraction as with our ignorance of what is happening at Brentford will match your ignorance of the SPL.

Shall I give Paul Buckle a bell? No old pals act here please, we want the best for this football club.

If McInnes is in the frame perhaps the assistants job has been offered to NF for his knowledge and contacts in the English league with Warburton in charge of the Academy/Gradute team.I think a decision has to be made before there is a rush for season tickets.

Derek McInnes Next Manager?

Forster won't accept an assistant role. He has said plenty of times he couldn't drop back into the ranks if he didn't get the manager's job and it counts for the same thing. If I were the new manager, I wouldn't want him as part of my backroom staff either. Twitter comments this week have all but told us he won't be around next season anyway. Let's appreciate his hard work and move on :)

It's between Di Matteo and McInnes and both will most likely have their own backroom team in mind.

........................it seems that McInnes was put in charge of St Johnstone in very similar circumstances as Nick Forster was at Brentford (ie taken out of the playing squad and made manager) - if the League 1 is on a par with the SPL, and as McInnes got St J promoted to the SPL, it stands to reason that NF has been equally as successful (so far) in his time as manager here as DMc did in his early time at St J - OK, so DMc has a two to three year advantage over NF, but that IMO is countered by the fact that NF's experience has been in the Football League, whereas DMc has only experience of Scottish League 1 and the SPL - conclusion I'm reaching, is that if it ain't broke, don't fix it - let's stay with who we know, and with how he plays, and let him get his own men in, I'd rather not see my team packed full of sweaties...................

Ahhhh so it was Mr Neilson doing the gossip role. I have no idea of the facts but not many of us thought Benham had best part of a billion quid in his back pocket!

Is it me or is this a bit of a mess? We don't seem to have agreed terms with him, let alone the comp package. Couldn't this of all been done behind closed doors??

Can you name any football managerial appointment in the last ten years that was first announced in the papers as being signed sealed and delivered? Without any rumours first? I can't, but that could be the dementia.

Derek McInnes Next Manager?

If Di Matteo wants the job, it's his.
If he turns it down, McInnes will be offered the job.
If we cannot agree terms with Del or St Johnstone, Justin Edinburgh is the manager.

I think we will see a decision very soon and even an article on the O\S next week ! :moo:

If the report is true, it seems to be a bit of a mess. Looks like McInnes wants a very large wedge and then there's compensation. I have a feeling that this may not run. Is he that much better as an option than Fozzy ? Not in my book.

I guess it's going to be down to how much we want him as our manager. If the the first offer was not enough then the board in consultation with MB will no doubt come back with a further offer/s.

The first approach will have been to test the waters to see if he could be prised away possibly reasonably cheaply. That was never going to happen anyway.

He has a deal for 2 years then we are looking at a tidy sum in compo no doubt that St J will require.

Again paying that will be down to how much the board are willing to pay to get their man and how much ambition they really have.

He could always resign but that could end up turning messy.

Now we've set our sights at him and DM looking at someone like JE is a joke. I'd much rather NF get a chance for a further year.

He if gets it I won't renew my ST.

Football leaks like a sieve. The news has not broken from the Brentford end and I can only congratulate BFC for keeping the intimate details of the recruitment process so quiet - and this is as it should be.

Isnt it MB's business to scout matches all over Europe? If so, and MB is involved in the decision, then presumably some homework will have been done.

If true, surprised to see Justin Edinburgh as a candidate. Nicky at least deserves to be on the shortlist for his efforts although I don't he's the right man at this time

It's total bullshit!:sorted:

McInnes is my opinion is an exciting young manager with a lot of learning still to do and that is why I think bigger teams have not offered him contracts. He has St Johnstone playing football how it should be played but with that option of "punt up the park" tactics if need be. In my opinion his only downfall is his negative tactics in important games and I think it takes him too long to change tactics if they are not working. Still it's something he can learn.

Our lack of goalscoring is down to a few things. Firstly my fellow Saints fans have forgot to mention the state of our pitch this season. Every team is struggling to score on it. (Hopefully the compo you give us for McInnes will go towards fixing the pitch ;)). Secondly it's a confidence thing, the stigma of not scoring was getting to the players but as soon as that first goal went in against Hibs last weekend, we looked like a new team so I don't think you can blame McInnes. Liam Craig last season for instance, our top goal scorer has only scored 5 goals this season. I blame it on bad luck.

Also all this "players didn't cut in league 2 but do a job in the SPL must mean the SPL is crap" is nonsense. I can give you one example. Stephen Dobbie once played for St Johnstone and Owen Coyle deemed him not good enough so sent him to a Scottish Division 3 side on loan and then released him... Now he is tearing up the Championship with ease. Different strokes for different folks. Duberry would make an excellent signing. He is the reason we have conceded so little goals. He is powerful and so organised at the back and the passion he still has for football is phenomenal. If McInnes does become your manager, there is no doubt in my mind that Dubes will follow him.

I think that's about all I have to say on the matter. I wouldn't be disappointed to see McInnes leave for you guys as your team may not be better than St Johnstone but you are only one league away from the Championship. If he does accept a contract with you guys and does a good job be prepared to lose him as Brentford will only be a stepping stone for something bigger.

The club needs to get this sorted ASAP. Many clubs have already started releasing players, before anyone reminds me I know there is plenty of time to sign players, but my concern is any new manager coming in doesn't not have the opportunity to look at the current squad so who will make the decision who we keep / let go.....?
Nicky has already said he knows where the weaknesses are and who he would want to keep. I'm sure Mc Innes has never seen any of our players and won't see them until they report back for pre-seaon training......Hindsight is a wonderful thing but surely it would have made sense to start this process sooner and had a manager in place now.

i've been saying this for several weeks now. so, obviously, i agree with you.

brentford trying to be too clever by half.

ps if mcinnes succeeds he will use us as a stepping stone and move on to bigger and better things pdq - if he fails he will blame lack of preparation time and will return north of the border a year older and a bit wiser. like butcher.

Shouldbee and Blunstone, I would love for you to
be involved in the process , you both talk as if it is so easy !!!

McInnes will no doubt speak to Mr Forster, watch some videos, speak to some people, and will go from
there

If the St Johnstone Man is the one they want then he still has 2 games to go

If all this speculation about the shortlist of three is accurate, then I think Mrs Merton will be asking "And how does Andrew Mills' friend Justin Edinburgh get onto the shortlist with Roberto di Matteo and Derek McInnes?".

Is it likely that this is exactly the scenario an agent will always try to create? Shows his client in demand, a club unwilling to let him go and a club seemingly desperate to take him. A perfect way to bump wages and compensation.

So whats the problem with that. He gets us into the Championship and some rich club pays a nice bit of compo for us to improve our squad. Simples!lol

Full of positivity then Blunstone. Sounds like you dont like change of any kind. I can see whoever comes in is doomed to failure with supporters like you.

Surely we all do that in our various working evironments. Do you think that if NF got the gig and was successful, he wouldn't want to move on to something else? Plus Di Matteo has already done that.
No doubt you believe we shoudl have appointed someone in the first week or so after AS left, which could have happened as Gary Johnson was available and many wanted him, would they want him now?
