Montell Moore (Forward), Mark Smith (GK) and Lionel Stone (Defender) are the only scholars offered deals for next season.

Kojo Awotwi, Richard Bryan, Lewis Lavender, Michael Onovwigun, George Pilbeam, Fabian Rowe, Josh Stockwell and Joe Taylor, have been released.

Onuvwigun was the young scholar that did well in the Milk Cup a couple of years ago and was well thought of. Pilbeam was Youth player of the year last season too. SOme tough decisions were made it seems.

Yeah, to put it into context, Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: “We have taken the decision to only offer Development Squad contracts to players that we believe could play for Brentford in The Championship".

Very tough on a couple of them especially but good luck to them all.

Does anyone know if Alfie Mawson has another year?

I'd imagine a fair few development squad players will be leaving, based on the comments about having to be good enough to play in the championship.

Maybe harsh on the likes of Norris and Pierre, but hopefully they can get themselves a professional contract elsewhere.

Can't read too much into say Norris and Pierre not being offered first team contracts during the regular season while they're off on loan, derailing their progress with stuff like that won't help their development or their respective clubs' plight. Pierre seems to have taken to L2 football like Norris did though, so he may be offered to stick around. Depends whether the pair of them would rather be contracted to a team in L2 or stay on at Bees (providing they don't get released) and maybe get a season-long loan in L1.

If Montell does well in the Dev Squad next season and on loan he will do well. Think Norris will be given one more year at a L1 club on loan as well as Pierre. Sad for Pilbeam and Onovwigun as they did well in previous years, but looks like they didn;t show enough this season. We're a Championship club now and we'll be ruthless.

I too thought Onovwigun was tipped for greatness. Going up a tier will make it harder again for our dev players to make their mark.

Re Norris and Pierre - might depend on what terms they are offered. If out of contract they might get a full pro contract elsewhere.

Deals offered to cover the possibility of them moving on maybe? As they're all under 24. Offering terms to them means the club could get fees if they decided to not accept the football clubs offer and move on for the chance of first team football. A good idea I think.

Seems a potentially expensive gamble. Pierre has done well at Wycombe by all accounts. He could be the back-up for Bidwell that we need?

Pierre is a centre back, so unless Craig is going to cover LB then no.

tend to agree although Manny has moved to centre mid at Aldershot and had a pretty good season by all accounts

I'm astonished at this news. I thought possibly Mawson might get a new deal, but was 50/50 really.

As for the other three, I'm amazed. They could all be very good lower league players but I heard Aibanjee say last week that the club were only looking to sign players who could play at Championship level. He obviously knows much better than me!

Also, aren't they all too old to play for the Development Squad next season - other than filling a couple of the over-age places?

I quite like it & am telling myself it is a low cost risk. If they stay with us to continue their development, for sure they will be loaned out to clubs in the lower divisions (you know, Divs 1 & 2 ;) ) who will pay a fair part of their wages. These lads are all still very young & then we see who can step up and who can't

IF they turn us down, then this offer improves our bargaining position to receive a transfer fee, which helps fund the next set of hopefuls we are getting in & I hope that in each case we can negotiate a nice chunky sell on as an insurance policy. Everyone's a winner :cool:

As I said above, the club are covering themselves if any player decides to move on. Offering slightly better deals to the player, but then they decide to reject and move on, puts the club in a better position re transfer fees and sell ons etc.

Mawson is only 20 so will be fine for next year. Pierre was 21 in February and Norris will be 21 next month but I'm not sure what the cut off date is for next season :shrug:

Oyeleke is definitely over age though, at 22.

I think the club has been gratified and surprised at how much Pierre Mawson Norris and Manny have progressed. Being home grown they are unlikely to be on high wages and it seems a good move to try and resign them, given that they might decide to move on anyway. In that case at least we are protected and will get some compensation and maybe, just maybe one of them will develop even further and become a real first team prospect

I should think they'll get loans a league higher than where they've played this season respectively, which could benefit the club in the 2015/16 season, when we'll either be still in Championship or God forbid, back in L1.

This is a rather cynical view to take. Sure, there are certain financial benefits of offering them improved deals in case they do chose to leave, but at the same time it would be remiss to assume that that was the only reason why we're offering them new deals - perhaps we're offering them new deals because the club sees Championship-level potential in these players.

Maybe a cynical view, but it's one, for me anyway, I would go with for now, than to think any of those 5 - maybe Mawson if I was pushed - would make our first team in the Championship.

Pierre has been here for 3 years now? Not got anywhere a regular place.

Norris, hasn't had the opportunities here, but has shown it away from GP, but as MW said n the Fans Forum, would he be in front of those who are currently here and even make the step up into the Championship?

Oyeleke, another who has been here for several years now, again, done well at Aldershot, but would I see him making the first team squad? No.

Mawson has been hampered by an injury, but he is one footballer who could make the next step and deserves another contract to prove himself.

It's a strong view maybe, but that's what football is, isn't it? How many players have we released that have gone on to better things? Very few.

They don't necessarily need to make our first team immediately though, but rather add depth and cover at a very decent price for the club. We're building an ethos at the club, and these philosophies are much more thorough if there's a continuing vein through the squad, rather than Scott's approach of bringing in a new loanee every fortnight. It also breeds stability and professionalism.

There are a number of first team players that will be getting their first crack at the Championship at quite a mature ageing us, and probably who didn't look like getting a game in at that level earlier in their careers. Our coaches and management work with the players on a daily basis, and therefore their opinions of our players are much more thorough than ours as spectators - and seeing as they've sent these players out on loan at League Two and Conference level, and now see fit to offer them new contracts, then the club must be content to retain their services and service the terms of their new contracts.

That said, there may obviously be a couple that chose to move to new clubs, and we'll subsequently be in a position to negotiate favourable transfer terms, but I'd like to think the club honest enough to offer new contracts based on the potential of the players rather than solely their sell on value.

Calvet probably. Moore now has a first team contract, though he plays for the Devs.

Calvet is part of the first team squad, not the development squad - as, I assume, is O'Shaughnessy.

I'm not sure whether Moore's new contract was still with the Development Squad?
