'Dislike' function

Disappointed this has been removed.

Have been keen to use it numerous times in recent days as posts from some posters become more and more pointless, especially on transfer threads.

Sometimes the 'ignore' function just doesn't quite give the same satisfaction!

'Dislike' function

If you dislike something, you may care to explain why out of politeness. That's better manners than punching someone on the nose and running away
Normally I do. You'll see from my posting history I used it very rarely when it was available.

There have just been some recent examples of 2 or 3 posters who just continue to repeat the same thing so may times with such frequency, replies seem pointless. I'll use ignore for them instead then.

I think the opposite. I saw random dislikes on some well reasoned posts (not by me obviously). I just thought, if you don't agree, give a counter argument. When my posts were disliked, I always wanted to know why the poster felt so strongly, they needed to register a dislike.

That's fair enough.

From what I've seen dislikes weren't used by that many anyway. Most would respond with their own views as Banana suggested. There have been a handful of posters that use them like confetti and in some cases, I believe their 'reaction' facility may have been removed. Perhaps dislike usage was increasing and that's why the option was removed.

I think there is a large amount of over thinking here. It's no longer an option and won't be returning, I'm sure everyone will adapt. We live in a world seemingly driven by negativity, it feels good not to have an easy option to build that further.

Also it was misused often to register dislike of something a poster was reporting, akin to shooting the messenger.

Your default assumption should be that everything written on here is total garbage, and if/when you are pleasantly surprised, hit the like button.
Like (y) is better defined as “not bad” in the vernacular.

When English is such a rich language where slight nuisances in meaning that can convey very different messages, surely we should have functions to support it rather than dumb it down to lowest common denominators. Can I suggest the following functions that would cover many bases on here?

  • “Appreciate” – signal genuine admiration for thoughtful or high‑quality content.
  • “Solid point” – to express agreement with a logical or well‑argued statement.
  • “Clarify” – indicate you’d like the author to elaborate or explain further.
  • “Concerned” – when something unsettles you or raises flags politely.
  • “Sceptical” – register doubt or question the validity of a claim.
  • “Playful” – used for light-hearted or humorous posts; not serious disagreement.
  • “Puzzled” – to show you're confused or unsure how to interpret a statement.
  • “Respectfully disagree” – to signal disagreement without hostility.
  • “Sarcastic” – for ironic or dry subtext; a more nuanced “this is ridiculous.”
  • “Insightful” – reserved for comments that bring new perspectives or depth.

...can I add 'talking bollox' to this list.... which I would probably receive..and probably deservedly so....on several
occasions over the course of a season...when posting.. .when under the influence....when I've got the hump...when we've just been humped.

Your intention may have been playful, or even sarcastic, but you make some solid and insightful points there, and I appreciate the clarity of your well-formatted post. However, I am skeptical that the mods would overhaul the current system, and concerned that such innovation would merely puzzle users more, although others will respectfully disagree.

That would apply to most of us.

It would probably be possible (albeit not a reasonable ask) for the powers that be to add a set of emojis next to every regular poster’s name. Maybe even have them displayed only against posts at particular times (eg ??? or ?????). I’m not sure most people would like it that much.

MODs removed it as they were getting too many dislikes and dented their egos … ?

...ahhh...you say that..but alas road rage could have much more serious consequences than posting non filtered alcohol induced rants on the gpg.

i love Wissa and I dont even read that thread

'Dislike' function

As a few have posted, “dislike” can be used in too many different circumstances and is a bit meaningless, apart from conveying general negativity and there’s much too much of that in the world already.

On the other hand, a “miserable fekker” emoji is one I often think is missing.
