b***ocks.

Ill second that, no way would Wally have been able to match the league run Martin Allen had us on at the end of the season. If it was'nt for Martin Allen we would be league two now, thanks for that Martin :) :sorted:

lol True...there's no way Wally was gonna keep us up!

Ditch the wally!

I agree that Wally`s team and possibly tactics were going to send us down.

However just to pose a question. If Wally had been given MAs budget of £91k extra (£14,550 instead of £12,800), would he have been able to bring in the players he wanted rather than all his cloth could fit round?

We will never know I guess.

I do think MA will continue to cock up and this season may need to be season of learning the trade. I will certainly give him this season before making a judgement on his ability.

Ditch the wally!

Tabb would still be on the bench and May and Wright would still be banging in the er... goals

now :box: ... did Mark McCammon really tw*t Downes when Coppell was in charge, because i possibly believe this to be true... maybe.. according to all sources...

Ditch the wally!

If you had read Stephen callen programme article properly Bish, you would have noticed that Wally's budget was 12.8k to begin with. MA came in and reduced the playing squad (Rougier, Peters etc) and still kept us up.

Ditch the wally!

Not saying he wouldve been great but I think he might've scraped through that's my opinion no need to shoot me down.

Oh and I don't think many people know the real reason MA got rid of Rougier...

I don't think Wally would have kept us up if he had an exta £91million, he was in my opinion a fat loudmouth, who wouldn't know the meaning of the word motivation, if it came up to him, patted him on the back and told him what a good job he was doing. It's open to debate whether he was a good technical coach or not, but as a man manager, motivator and tactician he was found wanting - big time.

The Faking It TV programme highlighted to me, that he was in fact the waster that I had suspected he was.

His period in charge was the most depressing I have witnessed and had me questioning my sanity for coming back every week. His sterile, defensive, long ball, poor discipline, strange tactics, 'it's not my fault' sh*te still give me nightmares. I never thought something could bring me to not come to Brentford any more ... Wallly nearly did though.

Thank God for Martin Allen! :)

So Thomas did you like Wallys style of play? :D

I know why he went as I had information from a very reliable source, I just wondered if anyone else knew. I don't really want to make it public, let's just say some of you would change your minds about MA. But if no-one else knows about it I will say no more.

Ace Face's comparason of the wage expenditure available to MA and WD proves that MA - per week - does not have the substantially higher wage budget to work with. Allowing for inflation lowers that gap further, and in real terms simply would allow MA to sign an extra Sonko if he so wished.

It is the quality MA has signed with the available budget that impresses me most. Yet IF the last 10 games of last season does not prove what MA could achieve with the SAME budget as WD then nothing will. Please remember we were all consigned to this new "League 2" before MA stormed in and heroically rescued us from the hell that lies below.

It is amazing how things change in 18 months. Paz wins the prize for being the first to call for Wally's departure, and "Sweepy" was half on-the-fence and half dissatisfied with WD at that time. But it's the same people who make themselves look foolish time and time again - can you believe that it took some of this more mature bees support another 12 months to see the light? No wonder we nearly got relegated. And if Leicester Bee had anything to do with it, we would be replacing Grimsby's position at home to Rochdale today. Edmundo, Warrenbee and many others also backed the wrong horse.

But the special mention goes to Mark Chapman - each individual post of his making me laugh louder than the one preceeding it!

Ditch the wally!

i think there were plenty of rumours at the time, Mr Bee, but the general consensus was that MA already knew him from his Reading days and knew that he wasn't the player for a relegation scrap, esp considering Sir Tabby was waiting in the wings. there were rumours of a personality clash but i think MA tried to quell those at a Q&A when he said he helped sort out Rouge with a transfer to Brizzle. so have u got anything interesting to add to this or are you gonna hide behind "i think i know something, ner ner "

and offering a different opinion isn't necessarily "shooting you down", get over it  i also happen to disagree with your view that Wally would have kept us up - MA got 5 wins in last 9, Wally had got 1 in 21 before that - but i do hope that doesn't upset you :)

Just about spot on TB. Great post!

Ditch the wally!

The single biggest difference that Martin Allen made (apart from a sense of belief) was to pick our best player, as opposed to leaving him on the bench. It wasn't a case of money (unless Tabby's contract has an enormous appearnace bonus in it). It was simply that Wally didn't have the ability to recognise which of his squad was the most talented.
