After Chelsea's team embarrassingly dived 3 (THREE) times yesterday, its showing that maybe the yellow card isnt enough?

The ref did bottle it yesterday, Cahill should of been sent off for the swallow dive into the grass.

I really do think they need to do retrospective bans for it as well, a yellow card & a 1 match ban. Increasing with every "simulation" dive.

Its already turning into a wimps game, they have got to stamp out this pathetic notion of "he was slightly touched, so he went down".

Thoughts?

.....genuinely shocked by goings on in that chelsea game.........footballs knackered if this play acting(dont like using the word simulation) continues....big girls the lot of them..........and this 'over the top' tackle stuff has no place either.

Deal with it retrospectivly and a 3 game ban. Increasing to 6 for a second offence and 9 for a third.

Its cheating and is up there with match fixing.

Didn't Warnock fine one of his players for diving? All the time you have shortsighted managers like Moanrinho, it will continue.

The England Scotland game the other wek was a great game, tackles flying in, players getting up and carrying on, no play acting and poncy rolling around like they'd been machine gunned down.

retrospective is a good solution, i reckon. it just needs to be careful that it doesn't get extended to marginal instances, cases where people fall over cos they are running at top speed and get a small nudge, etc. but hopefully (!!) it would be sensibly managed, as dives are usually pretty clear.

was a bit disappointed by seeing Danny Murphy quoted on BBC this morning as saying "it's either a foul or a yellow card" - if only it were so simple :rolleyes:

I don't get diving, players used to do all they could to stay on their feet so not to look like your opponent has got one over you, this was school football through to the pro game, my other niggle is feigning injury, roll around screaming, smacking the ground etc and then up, again all levels of players used to pretend that they weren't hurt, why the feck would you want the nasty bleeder who has done you to know he's done his job well, you stand up to it and dish it back out, see if he wants to carry it on or am I just an old delusional twonk?

To be honest I thought the penalty given to Southampton was soft, but still a penalty.

If you make any contact in the box and the player goes down who can say if it's a dive or not?
I remember when I was playing football if you are running full pelt even a tiny clip can do your balance.

That is the grey area. Who is going to decide whether it's a dive from video evidence?

On a side note, what about the Blackburn 22 yesterday before Pritchards shot was saved first half?
Surely even more blatant then any from Match of the day. But because he's not attacking it's not even mentioned.

Referees have got to take action when the player stays on his feet. Hanley was pulling Gray back after he raced through but nothing given - credit given to the Fulham referee for booking Stafylidis for the same thing after the ball went out of play. If free kicks and penalties are given when a fouled player tries to stay on his feet, then it'd help create a solution.

yep exactly... i remember this well from a Spurs-Chelsea league cup game years ago... Forssell went through, knocked it past the keeper and got wiped out... somehow stayed up, and tried to knock the ball home, but as his balance was gone, he put it wide... ref gave a goal-kick - it was unbelievable :eek: so no wonder players "sell" it if that's how refs are gonna treat it...

It needs refs. to play an advantage for longer, to make sure that a fouled player who manages to stay on his feet really does get an advantage.
The times you see a player being pulled back and carries on with the ref. playing the advantage only to see the player lose the ball because his run has
been interfered with and he loses the advantage.

That actually happened to us yesterday. The ref played advantage, we lost the ball and then went to him to complain; he pointed out that we had possession and made a pass and it was not his fault the player let the ball run out of play.

NB, think we're old school dinosaurs, I'd smile and exact retribution when I got the chance. I used to
love it if they then got upset and gobby as knew I'd got to them.
I feel sorry for refs without video evidence to help them decide but if retrospective action can be taken for fouls if no action is taken at the time and send in offs over turned makes sense blatant cheating is punished if proved?

Yesterday. My right back gets clipped, stays on his feet, misses a chance. Their left winger goes down under a nothing challenge, they score a pen. We lose 3-2. How do you explain that to 13 year olds. :shrug: I try to explain that it's about being a better person but what can you do.

It's very difficult but needs coaches and officials to strongly discourage and clamp down as early as possible.
Shame is I understand that kids obviously copy the bad as well as the good but needs us Dads to point out it's not acceptable to cheat.

Tell them to kick the living sh!te out of him in their next game and tell him that he has something to cry about and go over for this time.

Good lads in my team - they know that is not how they (or we) want to play but nonetheless, difficult to explain.

rather than giving out yellow/red cards, the ref should hand out Equity cards to some of these divers.

just watching Spurs v Man U and Falcao and Van Persie would have a fair few.

Video panel and three match ban if guilty. Five if your team gained additional points from it.

Retreospective ban for anyone found caught to have blantlently dived on video, would soon cut it out as managers would have to tell them to stop it

just seems far too wishy-washy, to me. should be much stricter.

With regards to Chelsea, why would a ref want to give them a penalty when they have been made to look a fool by giving penalties after they have dived before? Once bitten,twice shy. It should be at least a one game ban for ANY player that has tried to con the ref

I am convinced that Jota made a pathetic effort of diving against Ipswich. Ref just waved play on and I think he was a tad lucky not to be booked.

Also yesterday, the ref played advantage and their player went on into the penalty area but scuffed his shot and the ref pulled play back to just outside our D which was some while after the player went on and created and missed a goal opportunity - two bites at the cherry!
