Djed Spence (Loan)
Brentford are reportedly keen on a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Djed Spence. The Londoner has become the latest name to be linked with the Bees this month with the January transfer window open.
Were we? Surely we could have got him in summer 2021 when he was out of favour at Boro (and we were preparing for a first PL season with Sergi as our first choice RWB) or even to have nipped in with an offer last January. I’d always rated Spence as boro’s standout player when we played them but I doubt we were ever seriously interested when he was likely to be cheap and had a willing seller. Spurs might want rid now but they probably won’t burn much of the £25m nor will he be keen to take a paycut from what a £25m player could be expected to earn.Don’t see this happening.
This ‘no dickheads’ bit is getting a bit tiresome though, it’s clear we were keen on him when he was at Boro.
It’s a soundbite people read far too much into.

TF explained it as not being a dickhead as a colleague and member of the club. If anyone outside the club and fans hates them that’s their own problem.Yes, you may be right.
Nonetheless, the ‘no dickheads’ stuff is often a nonsense, IMO.

Exactly, i can think of a few players from recent times who we disliked before they joined us.
One of them is still with us.
Even this, it's not black and white is it? You want and need some fiery personalities, the current squad are certainly not all Saints.TF explained it as not being a dickhead as a colleague and member of the club. If anyone outside the club and fans hates them that’s their own problem.
Close, but no cigar.Brentford are reportedly keen on a loan deal for Tottenham Hotspur wing-back Djed Spence. The Londoner has become the latest name to be linked with the Bees this month with the January transfer window open.
Agree, cannot see the logic. No thanks.Unless Hickey's had a relapse then I can't see this one happening. From either ours or the player's point of view it doesn't really make sense. Don't see the point in him moving from one bench to another?
Or no concern about Hickey but having an offer for Rico at a level both club and player would consider…No point in loaning this lad, unless they have concerns over Hickey's return to the team.
Might be a case of close, but no cigar.
Yes fits their policy of having 5 players per position....More likely to be heading back to Forest.
He's never struck me as a particularly good defender. His main attribute seemed to be charging up the wing, so more a wing back and certainly not a centre back. A modern-day Ricky Shakes.Anyway, I cant see this one happening, but if we see him as a better option compared to Mads R, then why not go for it?
Can he play on the right of a 3?
We have to plan for the future and moving on from Mee, Zanka and Pontus.

I’m not sure the wages of someone who went to Spurs for £20m last summer are likely to be low. Given how much the average PL player is paid and them being a big club I’d be wholly unsurprised if he was earning more than any current Bee. Which doesn’t sound like value for a back up with less PL experience than Hickey or Roerslev. The only reason I can see us doing this is if Rico's on the way out. Move hickey to the left and bring in another pacy fullback on the right. Still it seems very strange to sign a right back, where we have 2 good squad players and 2 promising b teamers to cover that position, Rico meanwhile is our only true leftback. I'm not gonna complain if we do nab him tho, seems decent at a glance and for a 6 month loan in sure his wages arent gonna break the bank. On balance I might rather one of ours get the minutes but I'm not gonna be upset about some quality depth
I don't think theres a scenario where the club would take him on at his full wages if they're more than core players like toney norgaard Rico etc. Not conducive to a good dressing room atmosphere apart from anything else. Especially since we're one of the most evenly paid clubs I think I heard recently.I’m not sure the wages of someone who went to Spurs for £20m last summer are likely to be low. I sincerely hope so (this is Henry btw)... he signed a new deal only 10 months ago, granted that "only" has 3 years and a year's option to go by the summer. I'd like to think we will be far more comfortable in the full back areas generally (ie Hickey fit and playing well, back ups/competition on both sides) before we think about him moving anywhere and Hickey maybe switching sides again.Do we think Rico will be with us next year ??? His performances are def putting him in the window for a bigger club.maybe we looking at Spence to fill the right back role when we move Hickey over to left back. What better way to see the player and his personality than a loan. Could this end up being part of the Raya deal if he goes to spurs????
Possibly some mileage in this? It would address the problem of Rico getting injured forcing Hickey to LB/LWB although we probably have sufficient RB/RWB cover at the moment.Do we think Rico will be with us next year ??? I'd say that's 100% nonsense!![]()
Tottenham make Djed Spence loan call as Leicester and Brentford eye January deal
Djed Spence now looks set to depart Tottenham this month after only making six appearances for Antonio Conte's side since his summer switch from Middlesbroughwww.football.london
Or need him, Mads R has really improved this season. I doubt we will get anybody else this window, but a nice number 8 that can add a few more goals from midfield would be perfect. But we may wait until the summer and see how Josh get's on.Don't want him.
Money? Also he's a Londoner. It was odd he went to spurs in the first place. Decent player but never going to get a look in there.
We seem in a good place with full backs plus a few good prospects coming through as well
