Personally don't think it's worked out that well for Derby bringing another forward in and changing the team. He may have scored against us but Derbys form for the last 3 months has been uninspiring. It's all a gamble.

Given that we have already looked at Ligue 2 and Segunda and who knows where else, I would love Brentford, if they have not already done so, to venture a little further afield and to take a look at Takashi Usami of Gamba Osaka. He is fire right now and has been ever since returning from Germany, where things didn't work out for him, but he was still a boy and never given a chance at Bayern Munich and Hoffenheim were in a mess at the time, still only 22 yo (23 next week) he is desperate to try his luck again in Europe and relative to transfer fees in the rest of the world, he would be "cheap" and half of the fee would be re-couped in team shirt sales to Japan !
He has just scored again this morning, that is circa 50 goals and over 20 assists from 67 apperances since returning from the Bundesliga. Pretty certain he speaks at least some English from comments made at Bayern and someone will come in for him (again) soon.
His long range shooting is incredible, he has very quick feet and an eye for a killer pass and is better than even these highlights show. These scouting packages always show players in a good light of course, but Usami is the real deal .
Gamba did the domestic treble last year following promotion and play a very similar style to the Bees .

don't think players from that part of the world can cut it in Europe barring the odd exception

It's no coincidence that Derbys downturn coincided with when Bent and Martin were out injured. They haven't been able to get the momentum back but I'm not sure the fact they got a new forward in was the reason for their results going down the tube.

Also, throw in the fact that they fluked a result against us, came back from 3-1 twice since to get points makes having goalscorers around vital as they can dig you out of holes.

I wonder what the return on investment for just that one goal against us will be? If he hadn't have scored it, we'd be the one's looking good for the playoffs, not them.

At the time I was ok about it but the lack of goalscorer at Sheff killed us, Derby wouldn't have lost that game and nor should we have. I didn't see one point from Sheff and Bolton, Derby invested wisely and so did Ipswich but I wouldn't have wanted Bent or Sears anywhere near our team but fair play to them for shoving that thought up my bottom.

I was shocked when Ipswich signed Sears as I always thought he was total pants. It's a low risk gamble that's paid off big time though.

I read an interesting article yesterday (I think on Beesotted) suggesting that Bent has caused Derby's downturn because they changed their style to fit him, moving from being a passing team like us and Bournemouth to one that tended to lump it forward to Bent. So even though he's scored a lot, they've been a worse team for it.

Look like a pretty shrewd January move for me to bring in 2 loan player who contributed 23 goals.
Imagine what we would have done with another 23 goals in the past 2 months?

A goal a game is an excellent record by anyone's standards. Andre Gray has 16 in 47 by comparison.

Once upon a time a top striker in England would get 35 goals a season in any division. On the continent you would be considered a top striker if you scored 15-20 (probably thinking Italy more than Spain as they had the top league before then). Since the premiership and the influx of foreign players the defensive side of the game has improved so much that now to score 18 goals a season is considered a top performance. To put it in persepctive when you take the two goals in one game at Millwall away it means AG never scored in 32 games hes played this season. Now I consider 16 to be a good season for him but when you look at it the other way....it also shows you why Bent was playing for England before Lambert came in and fooked his career up.

How long has he been playing in Spain, because I think that is also a factor. Some of these players also come with dual nationality passports.

They're part of Spain but custom wise not part of the EU
