Don't Panic

5 pre-season friendlies to go......a threadbare squad.....and the 'only' good news being a 6-0 demolition of a non-league team who conceded goals from Wilcock and Fitzgerald ....... although friendlies don't mean a thing. I mean, as was said about 2 weeks ago, "Don't panic, there's no need to panic"

Don't Panic

Dont worry mate Juve,Fiorentina and Lazio are offloading some players this week.

Don't Panic

Fulham got beat by Exeter Saturday, quick sack Coleman, Southampton got beat by non league opposition quick sack Burley!

I understand, I come in each day and look for new signings and as yet they are thin on the ground, hopefully there will be some better news tomorrow evening. If the worst comes to the worst the Leo can always go for some loan signings but I expect he is waiting to see who he can get pemanent first.

Keep the faith for now, there is still time.

Don't Panic

Leo?

Anyway, two and a bit weeks to go before the action begins and we really need to get a move on. Standing and Pinault are our only trialists that I can see and options seem to be a premium.
No hint of a loan signing or two and we really need to act, some of us northern cloggers are going to be there on Saturday and deserve more than a Staines with the hours put in. More than a Staines means a little bit of something called hope, I 'm well up for supporting a team of Bees who are struggling or doing well but we need a team of some sort first and right now with time running out we look in really bad shape.

See you on Saturday.

doesnt need to....no points to play for yet.

I didnt say anything about sacking "Leo". I just want a bit of hope to fill the gap left by Tabby et al.

Don't think i mentioned anything about being beaten in pre-season friendlies either......perhaps i've just written the wrong thread (?)

What i meant to say (since i obviously didnt spell it out clearly before) is, as someone who puts a few miles in, i want to see something that resembles a League 1 side taking shape NOW.

Is that too much to expect or am i for the first time in my life 18 days, 16 hours and 30 minutes premature ?

:zzzzz: :zzzzz: :zzzzz: :zzzzz: ooops, just woke myself up becoz i was thinking about the iceberg 3 weeks before we hit it

Sorry, I know you didnt mention sacking leroy, that was a reference to other posts I've read regarding the pre season results which really mean nothing. I guess i just needed to get that off my chest.

We've all been here before and it seems supporting Brentford we see our team torn apart more than all the teams that are our level. But we still always hang in there when others have fallen away. Times are hard, but at least the club seems to be begining to be run in the way it should. I think we still have a real rollercoaster to ride, but maybe this time when we build a team we wont discover we've got a massive blackhole that threatens our very existence.

Like I said I understand what your saying and deepdown I have my concerns, but for now I think we need to wait and see.

Fair comment and there's part of me that just thinks "PMA" and lets not worry until it happens but there's a massive difference between what almost happened last season and (let's be honest) what is likely to happen this season.

I don't want to get to that position but what players that are worth snapping up are still available this close to the start of the season. It's not rocket science. If you have a team of potential to be gel-led together then that's one thing but when you're scratching about with Walsall rejects and dodgy temperaments that have been club-hopping even Sir Allen would have struggled to make a PMA silk purse out of that :sorted:

Sir Allen
I think I have identified the source of the problem. Allen was only ever after himself and what was good for him, hence his refusal to spend his playing budget on an improved contract for Tabby, which would have seen him still here now, or at least us in the ££££££s. People should stop revering him for a moment and consider how scared he became of us playing football towards the end of the season and what that cost us. Brentford is bigger than Martin Allen and we should pull together rather than pulling us down in a tide of negativity. I'm sure Leroy will have more good news for us soon, perhaps even tomorrow. We all have our views on what is going on and I'm not saying you shouldn't feel how you feel - but I think the spiral of negativity that is developing isn't going to do any of us any favours.

We got to third in the league from the help of 4 players....

These four players have been sold..:
Dj
Sam
Turner
Tabby

:fishing:

Sir Allen = a touch of irony, a touch of sarcasm, but no reverring and no hero worship status from this corner - that has long gone.

The intention of don't panic was not to induce a spiral of negativity - just a bit of honesty about the present situation. But i'm still right behind Leo :blush

Don't Panic

Have not seen any friendlies yet however I seem to recall the last time we won something we had an absolutely rubbish pre season........

Think I will wait for the season to start until I start worrying..........

11 players make a team, and a squad is even more.

More relevant is the fact we lost a number of points due to Allen and Sodje, costing us late goals in the run in.
Nelson had a stunning run of form in Jan and Feb, without that we would not have been 3rd.
We have plenty of players with potential and hunger to do well this season.
Leave it to Leroy, lets see what he can do.

All true, sort of.
But we need a team and at the moment with just over 2 weeks to go we don't have one.

Don't Panic

we have me !

I am a beacon of hope, in the stormy skies.
I am a wandering minstrel, in a barren desert of hopelessness.
I am going to Northampton, former home of Des O'Connor, and site of the hilarious sitcom Keeping up Appearances (1990-95)

:homer: These friendlies are a test to get match fitness.:(

Don't Panic

I won't be dissapointed if any manager, pundit, journo fails to describe us this seasonas "direct" or "physical" which although doesn't mean we're winning, will probably mean we're playing attractive passing football.

Exactly. Apart from beating Chelsea at GP in 1991, our other friendly results were hardly sparkling and we won the Championship that season.

Don't Panic

I don't think our results are the problem though, who gives a flying feck about them.
I think our continued silence when it comes to trying to enhance our squad with only 2 and a bit weeks left is beginning to scare a few or sh!t the life out of a lot.
I'm hoping to see something on Saturday but deep down I think that at the moment there is so little to actually be shown.

Don't Panic

So we now have a midfield of Oli and Pinault. Is that better or worse than Newman and Pratley?

Don't Panic

too early to say.....

Don't Panic

Well I'm going to stick my neck out and say that Oli will be better than Newman. Controversial, eh? :D

Don't Panic

I'am panicking, I don't see where the inspiration is going to come from ?

Don't Panic

The bottom half of the table will be a result this coming season. No money, no players, no chance.

Don't Panic

having seen Oli and the French guy i actually beleive there is some hope Oli will battle whilst Pinault?? plays the simple pass and is always available, Charles in the back 4 may yet prove something of a revelation, has a lot to learn but has reasonable pace and is solid in the tackle.

I think the style of play will be something of a revelation and we may need to be patient as it gells together, yes big hulking teams may cause us problems if they play direct football, as we did last seasion, however i genuinley beleive that there are enough FOOTBALLERS in the squad to have a pretty reasonable season.

Very very early to be negative pre- season frendlies are to get match fit and experiment with different people in different positions and to look at trialists, i think Leroy has an idea of what he wants and would not be suprised at the arival of a another couple of players,
