I think some people have overreacted here, just a little bit.
What we're lacking is real CONSISTENCY - whether it be in team selection, or in individual player performances. In our opening three games, we've had 3 different selections across the back four, and used two goalkeepers, hardly the way to get a solid unit. Now I don't agree that Pim should just walk back in to the team, and he hasn't played all that well, but that's because he hasn't had a pre-season to speak of. What Andy needs to do is pick his Best XI from his (very strong) squad and stick with it, stop meddling.
The goalkeeping issue is quite frankly ridiculous. Simon Moore has shown some real promise but is still finding his feet in the League. But, he or Richard Lee have to play, that's what they're here for, and failing that, play Royce. Szczesny was great, but lets have a settled No. 1, and get behind him, and not a rotating door for loanees!
The criticism of Craig Woodman is simply crazy. He has a great left foot, is solid defensively, and has worked really hard on his attacking game over the summer. He and Wood were superb first half against Cheltenham, and decent against Walsall as well.
The next inconsistency is Myles Weston. He's either brilliant, or next to useless. He's got to be on his game week in, week out, or he simply shouldn't play - Wood gives 100% every time, and I'm not convinced we get that from Myles, which is a shame because he has the skills required to be devestating in this division.
The right-hand side is still a problem imo. Simpson has shown promise, but looks a little uncomfortable running with the ball, but I'd like to give him more of a chance before I judge. Saunders as his back-up isn't enough to push Simpson for his place though, so getting Hudson fit is essential to enhancing that position, either by pushing Simpson, or taking his place. Alternatively, play Spillane. OK, he may not have been in the game @ Carlisle, but he has undoubted quality, and would be an asset in this division anywhere o the right-hand side.
The four forwards in this squad I cannot fault. All 4 give 100%, and have proven quality, not just over their careers, but in their time at Brentford. They will score hatfulls of goals if the service comes, which I think it will from Wood/Weston, Diagouraga, and hopefully a steadily improving right-hand side. Possibly Bean isn't the way to go in midfield, he's no longer the box-to-box player he was in League 2, but there is still 100% commitment.
There's a lot for us Bees fans to be positive about, and I wouldn't be surprised to see us go on a good run now, beat Swindon & Rochdale, and progress in both cups (Carling & JPT). Let's get behind the boys, and believe that Andy will do as he always has, and get the balance right eventually.
