Delighted to hear the Bees played some football on the ground instead of the usual ping pong against Port Vale.
All we want now is some tinkering, a la Ray Lewington and Steve Coppell - who both turned average teams into good - and we may yet turn the season round.
Since there seems to be a policy of play McCammon no matter what, why not move him to the right wing and let him roam and make his runs at will. He has absolutely no impact at all in the middle and the move would free up Peters, Rowland and co.
Here's hoping.

What ever he has done, whatever attitude he has, the time came 4 weeks ago to draw a line under it and get him on the pitch from the start.

As for Mac, his time has come. He is not a striker, winger, play maker, defender or goal keeper. Perhaps a ball boy?

I think I've mentioned something about MacGammon in my Vale match report on The Big Match forum.

It's now getting so frustrating with the Trolley, I know Bish won't allow questions of BU or Wally on here now, but what the f*ck is the useless lump still doing out on the pitch ?

Must agree with Baffled,the problem with having Marky Mac in the centre is that everyone tends to play high balls which miss out the central players.Most forwards prefer a ball that they can run on to instead of a high ball where they have to defend and attack at the same time.We might even get a few threaded balls and see a bit more skill.

Unfortunatly the three midfilders capable of running with the ball at defenders and providing a decent ball for viney or mac to run onto have rarely been together in the same team since the Rangers game i.e. O'connor, Rowly and Hunty. If we could have had all three of these players in the same team week in week out then I am sure we would still be in the playoff hunt. As it is we only have solid midfielders such as Jay Smith and Eddie Hutchinson to replace these guys when they are injured.

If we had the following midfield week in week out :-

Hunt O'connor Evens Rowly


Then I would be sure that we would have been in the playoffs at worst. Unfortunatly Football is a game of "if only's" but thats life.

Even if we had Stephen Gerrard in the middle drilling perfect balls down the middle, Mc Cammon would still fall over when they reached him. Either that, or wait for someone else to do the shooting - if he wasn't bundled off the pass before that.

Unfortunately in some quarters, Wally is beyond criticism. Consider previous managers of this club:

Coppell: Worked miracles. Signed the players necessary by using the loan system shrewdly. Nearly won promotion. No complaints about the team selections from fans.

Lewington: Picked up the club when Noad£s lost interest. Reached LDV Final. No complaints from fans about team selection if I can recall.

Noades: Surrounded himself with expensive coaches to prevent being made to look a fool as he appointed himself boss. Seemed to choose the strongest team available with few complaints from fans.

Adams: Picked up a crisis-torn Brentford after W£bb made Eddie May the scapegoat for our poor performances with the quality of the squad he left. He almost saved us from the drop by choosing the best players available.

What is the constant regarding these previous managers? Answer - whatever the circumstances that resulted in their appointment as manager, whatever resources they had to work with (however limited) and whatever crisis we were in at the time, they by and large chose the best 11 players available to play on the pitch. I cannot accept Wally is doing this while Hutchinson and McCammon continue to get games, and poor Rowly is left sitting on the bench.

I'm not calling for Downes' head yet, far from it, but i'm watching closely now. By early May he could well be remembered as the man who won us relegation from the jaws of survival.
