Dreamland

I am sure I am going to awake tomorrow and find its this last 2/3 years & the future is all a DREAM
Since first attending GP in 1948 apart from one season in the Championship we have been in the bottom 2 tiers signing mainly journeymen & the occasional star Very occasional'
GP shrinking from 38/39k capacity to 12k.
As someone else said journeys to northern outposts ala Workington (supporters coach left at midnight Friday got home 2/3 am sunday) we lost.
Threatening on the odd occasion with the possibility of promotion, 8 or is it 9 Playoff defeats, the very occasional cup run and 2 LDV or whatever finals ( I remember going to the Wigan final saying to my son we will have the best seats because we won't be here again) There have been times when I felt sorry for inculcating him into Brentford FC
My dream is that not only get into the Championship playing the best football I have seen but to finish 5th in our first season and be one of the favorites for promotion to the Premiershite the next, to spend £1million plus pounds on good players and to not have you support who? what division are they thrown at me and to have shortly a 20k capacity modern stadium to play in.
I know its a dream and will never happen will it?

Oh. I thought this was about the amusement park in Margate that has reopened! Used to go there as a kid. Wonder what it's like now compared to the more local Merlin theme parks.

not been yet, however very favorable reviews from friends. I suspect it will not be everyones cup of tea as it is a fusion of nostalgic rides and modern art. Saying that the town has been buzzing the last few weeks so would encourage all bees to visit-especially as the one and only David Hunt will be gracing Margate FC next year - a fantastic player in our dark days.

Dreamland

Is that the old Ben bon brothers theme park?

Funparks suck - too many queues and heaps of kids - mind you the MILFs are sometimes worth a look :)

This thread has taken a turn the OP did not anticipate!

In the 1960's, I worked a season in Herne Bay in West Beach Amusements, which was owned by John Iles (junior), the family that also owned Dreamland. He, I think, was third or fourth generation and it was always interesting to talk to members of the family who were really 'showmen' of the old tradition. They later sold it as it was getting old, expensive and out of fashion but there was a real family dedication to what was "old times". As it was my first summer job, I learned an awful lot from the team there...

Me and my pals used to do the old train ticket and entry to Benbom Brothers offer about 6 times a year.

All I can remember is piling into the pub next to the station, then pillaging some of Kent's loosest young ladies.

Great times.

The new one looks sh*t to be fair. And at the best part of a ton for a family of 4 incredibly bad value.

Family of 4 would be £66 - well short of a ton and pretty good value for a family ticket.

Not sure why you need to say it looks S+++. Seems very negative and unwarranted comment as I assume you have not been.

Certainly the reviews have been largely positive, it is the first stage of the project and will I am sure prove a popular and value for money visit.

Dreamland

its well over a ton once I've got there and paid for lunch. Perhaps I should have explained myself more clearly.

Work takes me to Margate fairly regularly and I have followed the works with interest. As somebody who looks back on the old park with fond nostalgia I was hoping for more.

Is the Mary Rose still there?

Was one of my favourites, as a kid.

Dreamland

No.

I hope they found my loose change when they sold it.

No looping star
No enterprise
No enormous big wheel (sold to Mexico)

They also had the least bent "claw" games back in the day. I can remember getting armfuls of teddies.

Dreamland

Re-opened by Vic Reeves apparently........

I bet you're wishing you hadn't bothered.

fair enough - but do remember the terrible state the park was left in by Goodden - this is the first stage of the development - the rollercoaster will be operating before too long which is really the centrepiece and I understand further stages are being developed which will come on line over the next 12 months. The big big wheel has as you say gone abroad - there is however a big wheel - albeit not as big as the old one!

no looping star !!!! i used to love that rollercoaster,,,,the first time it comes down over the road was 'kin scary stuff for a 13 year old......used to go every year on those combined train/fun fair tickets.....used to take 4hrs from putney.....it was like going abroad with your mates, it was sooooo far lol full of birds from the east end on a day out.......and skinheads unfortunately :(

What the **** is going on here? How disrespectful are you lot? TOMOGP starts a perfectly decent thread entitled 'Dreamland', and it immediately gets hijacked by middle-aged adolescents who want to talk about theme parks.

Sorry, Tomo, on behalf of all decent posters on the GPG. Back on task, hopefully now. Yes, I bought a bed from there about 18 months ago, and I have to say we haven't been too impressed. Seemed comfortable enough for the first few months, but didn't take too long before it began to lose its shape. Certainly wouldn't recommend this firm.
