The rules should have seen him banned for life, particularly given how brazen he was. But the rules don't do that. So it's not really cricket to ban him for life.

Change the rules

Change the rules for the future.

Nobody seems to say anything about the shot put guy who is in the GB team. Also, nobody said anything when Chambers ban ended in 2006. Seems more a case of that people don't like his attitude and they are pissed off that he went to American Football and came back. UK Atheltics is also upset that he hasn't been tested since November 2006 because they assumed he was no longer a competing athlete even though he informed of his whereabouts for random testing.

Chambers is a cheat, has been caught, admitted he is a cheat and done his time.

UK Athletics have ****ed up over his random testing since Nov 2006, are hypocrites for making a specific example of Chambers when there is another convicted cheat in the squad, and are pissed off that this cheat without a trainer is making their highly funded "young upcoming atheltes" look pretty sh*t.

...............let him rot in McDonalds......................

Sadly yes although the amount he had him in him was so high it was not regarded as necessarily credible and he had retired by then I think.

Some of the "drug" issues are very much on the margin as to whether the body can create them naturally or they are added illegaly. Its not a simple world this matter.

He did however have a bit of a lucky escape at one of the Olympics over some suspect tea as I recall...

Dwain Chambers

So, Chambers gets the results of his appeal today. The Olympic rules are a ban for life. I, for one, hope it stays that way.

It's a shame that he is a likeable character. He was bang out of order and had all he needed to be a top sprinter without the aid of chemistry.

I agree, we've all made really stupid mistakes, and while this is on a very high level, he's clean now and in the best form of his life, I, for one hope he runs in the olympics.

Can't agree he's cheated, had thousands of £'s of funding that someone else deserved, denied honest athletes and Olympians the opportunity to represent their country.

If you were found guilty of fraud in the bank you wouldn't be offred your job back again aftera slap on the wrist. likeable or not he knew what he was doing and he got caught. The silly thing is if the IOC just issued an lifelong exclusion against all athletes found guilty there wouldn't be any fuss.

he also is responsible for other athletes losing their medals in the 4 by 100 relay.

He has failed in his bid anyway:wave: see ya dwain.

There are no winners to come out of today's verdict, there would have been a bloodless victory if he had won his court battle. It all leaves me a bit numb.

Dwain Chambers

I've taken all sorts of drugs and still can't run (non-competitively) 100m in less than 10 seconds. Which ones should I be taking? :bound:

Dwain Chambers

He is a drugs cheat and as such a lifetime ban on any athlete should be imposed.

However, it is not.

The BOA make the rule that any drug cheat cannot compete in the Olympics.

If he represented another country, he would be at the Olympic games. He can represent the UK in any other event just not the Olympics.

To me this isnt fair. There will more athletes who have also had drug bans(if I recall a Greek athlete in particular) who will be there as their Greek Olympic Authority allow it.

It should be consistent.

Apparantly UKA rushed him back for him to compete in another Championship..so when it suits its Ok.

I am not cheering on anyone who takes drugs..a lifetime ban should suit endof..however the inconsistency of what he can/cant compete in..is wrong.

That Ohurogu bird, missed 3 drugs tests and was banned...but she can compete. There is no excuse whatsoever for missing 3 drug tests without notifying the relevant authorities - she blatantly avoided the drugs tests and gets let off lightly!!

Chambers unlike most athletes admitted immediately he took drugs and has campaigned against drugs in sport ever since. He has done his "sentence" and should be free to compete as most other athletes are after a ban in all events. I reiterate, a lifetime ban should be imposed...however it is not..and I think this is all wrong.

What we he be doing now if he was'nt caught? Keeping clean competitors out
of the Olympics. I agree there should be a blanket ban on all drug cheats but
with so many governing bodies this would be unlikely. He is not a borderline
case-he accepts his luck ran out. I feel he can make a living of sorts on the
circuit. I think the BOA should be applauded for their stance and that todays
High Court ruling forms the most effective deterrent in this country.

The Olympic governing body is the IOC. Why on earth are they allowing proven cheats to compete? They shamelessly allow the likes of Thanou back and the BOA gets pilloried for being too harsh. It shouldn't be an issue with the national governing bodies at all.

I'm fed up with people like Chambers bleating on unfair treatment. He signed up knowing the rules and deliberately cheated in order to gain financially. This in turn has disadvantaged other perfectly legitimate athletes who he beat (as well as the ones he won gold with in relays). Know he wants to disadvantage those same athletes again by being able to compete against them again on the supposition that he'll do it fairly this time. Bullshit.

I work in a bank and if someone gets caught nicking money they won't work in a bank again. Chambers is going to have to find something else to do, that's life.

Dwain Chambers

I am with jimbee completely :imwith: but not in a gay way :nono:

Dwain Chambers

Chambers is going to have to find something else to do, that's life.

He also made many attempts to do just this with American Football and Rugby League and failed, it was only then he came back to Athletics and tried to challenge this ruling.

Dwain Chambers

He's only banned from the Olympics - he's not banned from taking part in individual Grand Prix events. If he was, that would be a restraint of trade that he was claiming.

His notoriety might just have booked his place in a few events now because unfortunately, he's a big talking point and people will pay to see him if he's on the card. Apparently, the viewing figures for the trials at the weekend were about 2.5m, mainly boosted by the interest in him.

Man of the prestige events are invitation only and have avoided him because of the controversy. I think this is the end to be honest.

You may be right but there job is to sell tickets and get good broadcast figures and at the moment in the GB at least, Chambers is the biggest name in athletics.

Dwain Chambers

What cheating is ok and does not get a life ban? Does cheating at cricket get a life ban? Why is taking a drug more bad than claiming a dropped catch?

Dwain Chambers

The Preamble to the Laws covers it very well.

And they come even BEFORE Law 1 :sorted:

:)

Ahletics isn't really that big in this country, the viewing figures were probably more to do with this current furore around Chambers competing at the Olympics rather than Chambers being a particularly big draw.

Good to see LaShawn doing his bit to fight one of the stereotypes people sometimes have about black men

Merritt was banned for 21 months in 2009 for failing a drugs test for steroids, which he blamed on his use of an off-the-shelf penile-enhancement product. He completed the ban earlier this year and was free to run in the World Athletics Championships in Daegu, where he won a silver medal.

Shocking decision driven by the Yanks' Olympic body which is really surprising although given the history of drug cheating by USA athletes maybe we shouldn't be surpised.

Sends completly the wrong message, hope the BOA can hold their admirable line on this.

Of cause they won't.

They will bend over backwards and kiss their American arse.....if that is physically possible.

he won his case today...:pop::pop:

i wont be cheering him on that is for sure.

wonder how much he'll make in the next few months from sponsorship then...

not a lot I wager. maybe there is an angle there for crash helmets or baldness cures. ie. cheat death or cheat hair-loss etc.

Much as I dont agree with drug cheats, the Olympic ban should be worldwide. The case was brought against our BOA ( as we ban athletes from the Olympics who have served drug bans ) by the World Doping Agency, not Chambers. However, we should be consistant with other countries. The athletes have done their time for their crime and are subjected to more tests than others n they should be treated the same by all countries. Imho, the bans should be life from competing at all after found guilty of drugs but they arent n once the time has been served all athletes should be allowed to compete in all competitions n not be excluded by certain countries

Totally agree.

I think we are one of only a handful of countries that have life bans for the Olympics. It needs to be unversal.

I hope that he loses in first or second round and does not make the semis

Hope the crowd do the decent thing and boo him when he gets announced at his races as well
