I reckon he may have been our shortest-lived 'proper' manager (as opposed to caretakers like Garry Thompson taking one game last season).
Would be impossible to judge him on that short time with us (though he'd done little before to justify appointment). Webb had got rid of most of the previous season's play-off team and May got a midfield of Wormull, Spencer and Barrowcliff that would have been sub-standard in the Conference

Utter sh*te manager. We should have had Micky Adams from the off that season as he nearly performed mission impossible.

I guess it's a case of so near but yet so far, as had just one of those draws been converted to a win, we would have stayed up. Curiously, Adams spell of many draws was followed by a very long run under Noades without a single draw.

The "dream ticket" revealed by Dave W£bb as his successors of Eddie May and Clive Walker was always dooomed to failure. The poor sods didn't stand a chance under that regime. May had to use a poxy broom cupboard for an office and had sod all money to spend, though he did manage to sign Charlie Oatway from Cardiff.
I well remember seeing May trudge along the touchline at the end of the Carlisle home game. One guy in the Paddock shouted something like "That's not good enough" to which May replied "I know, but what can I do?" He knew he was gone and the deed was done the following day. I have nothing but sympathy for him.
Adams, who had fallen foul of the phoney pharoh and toddled off down the M4 to take over at Swansea, had quit the Vetch a few days earlier as he'd been tapped up by W£bb. The honeymoon between the 2 of them was over before it had begun. W£bb let it be know publicly that Adams could call on his expertise at any time but told him privately to "**** off and don't bother him".
I have a fairly low opinion of Adams' record at Griffin Park and certainly don't rate him as highly as some do for as it says above, he had more games than May, more money, yet still we went down. He gave good value in the "Evenings with Micky" but not much else.
