EFL Trophy

Just wondering, if we received an invite, would we put the B Team into the EFL Trophy?

EFL Trophy

I’m pretty sure it’s only open to those that are part of the EPPP structure.

No B Teams in League competitions.
Our B team might as well be the 24th club in the National League, the number of fixtures we play against their clubs on their “free” Saturdays

EFL Trophy

No. It’s just wrong and Billy big bollox…..

EFL Trophy

For the integrity of the competition, we shouldn't really be allowed to enter but the EFL have already opened the door so why not.

While iirc we voted against admitting PL youth teams to the EFL Cup, Phil G did say one of the things we considered more recently was whether it would actually provide a good set of competitive fixtures for the B team and be therefore worth setting up for.

This has already been covered. You can only enter a B Team into the EFL Trophy if you have a top-tier Academy.

The only reason that happened was because the B team couldn’t travel to Europe. Also, the National League had gaps in their fixture lists due to Dover refusing to play. Which meant a number were able to accommodate Brentford B.

Yes because since 1898 we haven’t fielded a first team in either.

Yep. Haven’t an issue with those competitions as it’s not a first XI and the Clubs involved, I’d guess, want to play Brentford as their gate receipts would be worth having!

Middlesex and London cups are ok???
Yes because we are both a Middlesex and a London side, have historically always been able to entre these competitions and the competitions are not league cups or Trophies

Also worth noting that it's conceivable that they'll not be able to play European mainland based teams next season so will be exposed to fewer competitive matches as a consequence.

I'm surprised they never finished or haven't reinstated the informal mixed English/Scots U23/B teams cup that was started in the 2019-20 season.

Maybe the appetite north of the border eased slightly when we nicked one of their young players??

could have if we had an under 21 team

Not just that.
You have to have a category 1 academy, as per post #13 and several posts about the Paint Pot in the thread "Is an academy required for PL clubs?" (the answer to that question by the way is no).

EFL Trophy

Not sure what sort of team Ipswich put out, but they lost 2-1 at home to West Ham U21.

EFL Trophy

This competition has been completely ruined by having the B Teams in it
Talking of completely ruining something

THIS???

This has passed me by? Why can we not play mainline based teams?
