Egg chasing

Hi all, an egg chaser here coming in peace. Since the Community Stadium was announced as the new home of London Irish I have followed Brentford but have sadly not yet made it to a game (understand now in the Premier League it's very difficult to get tickets). Hopefully I will in the future!

As it's an international break thought I'd come on here and suggest if any fans are at a loose end this weekend coming to the BCS and watching London Irish. Kick off is Saturday at 3pm. It's our biggest home game of the season and it's set to be a great day in the sun with live music after the match too. Tickets are as little as £25 or 4 for £50 deals in the West Stand.

If you've never tried it is say give it a bash and come and support your other local team now! Hope to see some of you there and share a Guinness with you.

Nope. International breaks mean a rerun of the Swansea playoff final. Rules are rules.
Show it on a big screen in the Millennium Stadium. I’m sure the locals will love it.

Egg chasing

Either that or if they insist on Rugby, the Italy v Wales game.
I couldn't watch that either. The only part of the post that appeals is the Guinness.

Quite fancy giving that a go sometime (even if I do favour the thirteen-man version). Sadly, on this occasion, I have to spend a long weekend in Paris. Extended sigh.

Crowds are quite poor numbers wise, aren't they? I guess indicative of you coming on here searching for bums on seats.

I would not mind giving it a go as I have not watched a club game for years.
May have to be next season though.

Yeah. See if they had a clever marketing team they could solve that by getting them to play football. ;)

Depends what you mean by quite poor I think. Probably averaging about 8.5k this season, which is significantly higher than the last few years at the Madejski but not at the heights of the top Prem clubs or obviously the top 2 divisions of football (and some lower down!). Think the club were quite realistic in not expecting us to sell it out every week in the first season or two.
We lost a lot of fans in the last decade by us a) being a team in significant decline and b) being in Reading so it's slowly returning.

But this Saturday is our party game as its the closest home league game to Saint Patrick's Day so there's lots of stuff to do throughout the day, and our first in Brentford so they're hoping it's a success!

I went to the game against Leicester Tigers earlier in the season. Might have been persuaded to go again this weekend but, like an earlier poster, am in Paris for the weekend (but not with him).

Can they find a way to levitate while playing, so as not to further damage the pitch?
I think I must be a bit of a weirdo, as it just wouldn’t feel right somehow watching anything else at BCS.
Hope you get a good crowd though.

International rugby is a decent day out admittedly it’s an expense experience particularly for a ticket,

club rugby is a poorer standard (expected) but it can be truly dreadful. Enjoy the beers at sit and having a bet on the out come. It is also nice to watch live sport without the constant threat of being ejected by stewards and generally being treated like an adult rather than sh*t on the bottom of a shoe.

I thought of going to a London Irish game, maybe in a different stand from my season ticket. However, when I looked at prices they seemed quite dear. Maybe London Irish could try some special offers to create interest.

I heard it costs £160 to watch England rugby at twickenham for a normal ticket. £2 a minute.

How long are rugby playing on our beautiful pitch for? Can’t they play sideways to limit the damage? Maybe shorter matches? Let people under 30 stone play it too?

What do you think the crowd will be and what is the highest to date. I went against Bristol & enjoyed the craic ! There was much more room for St Pats at Madjeski with bands outside I understand. How will it work at BCS ?

One of my brothers and his family went to watch LI v Harlequins a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. He said the tickets were very well priced.

Just bought tickets for London Irish against Quins and there's not a lot left other than the West. So there should be at least 13k for that.

That was the Mickey Mouse cup, always cheaper as its not the First Teams.

Highest to date is just under 12k against Exeter and we won, was a great game!
For Saturday I hoped we'd sell it out but don't think we will. Hoping 13-14k. Glad you enjoyed that game, one our worst performances as well!
Yes the MadStad space was useful once a season for this fixture! I've attached a photo the club released, think there's two smaller stages this time as those spaces aren't massive, but there'll also be the bar in the South Stand where we have music after every home game. To be honest I'm not sure how it'll work, but very interested to see how it is on the day.20220323_203500.jpg

Looks as if the rear 5 rows of the west haven't been released for sale....so front section sold out & about half of the rear....the east rear section not released....lower area about half released. Sides just about sold out. Don't know the capacity of each area but guessing 12,000ish+ at the mo. Bands inside stad before & after...don't think that'll work...who wants to stay in their seat...not the same as getting a pint from a Guinness truck then spilling half of it as one bounced about to celtic punk....thats the other thing the bands selected are well kind of boring. Will be good when we get the punk acts in the dugout & turn into one messy mosh pit. But hey love the BSC so much packed in & the surrounding area is great. Explored down by the Grand Union /Syon before the Friday night game. Whatever the crowd the sun will burn down, pints will flow...just need a win & all will be well.

They've got an "ACTIVITY ZONE" on the railway? That's a new one on me.

Playing at Plough Lane by 2030. I’ll bet my house on it.

Are all parts of the ground open?
East Stand isn't normally?

When I looked before Christmas the West stand upper was not normally open for LI games.

From Hobbsy's picture I therefore suspect W233 and W234, being central blocks, are the first blocks being sold (for a bigger game) rather than the last ones available. The east stand may similarly not yet be open along with W230-W232 and W235-W236.

I'm not a rugby fan and could not have made Saturday's game anyway, but good luck to you. I was pleased to hear from the Athletic's piece last week that the Griffin are getting a decent trade from the rugby crowd despite being a fair distance from the new ground.

Oh good, I was thinking someone had stolen my seat in W235. I might be able to hop over to it.

From what I witnessed at the Bristol Post match the result didn't impact the entertainment!

Have been meaning to see a RU game at the BCS this season. Couldn't do the Saracens game which was a shame as my cousin is involved with them and it would have meant a first visit to the South Stand. The thought of being in the BCS without any emotional involvement and having a beer when watching the game does appeal though. Trying to get my son to go. He has no interest in RU but he is a quarter Irish and his fiancee is from the Republic so hopefully we will get down there.

Irish thing can be a bit over blown....yeh you'll here Irish accents from both the N & S but also Aus/NZ, SA & sprinkling of Argentinian maybe some south Pacific Islanders....but in the main its folk born within GB...yeh many with Irish family routes. If LI wanna grow it's with a London fan base regardless of nationality.

Happy clappers!.....yeh the result isn't so important to many as long as the team do their best. That was an entertaining game....we went down to Bris in Feb & put things back in order with a thumping win. The Mrs does rib me up if I'm a bit grumpy after a loss with "its only a game" arghhhh
