Shocked Abbey Went

Shocked that abbey was released i thought considering the 4 defenders infront of him, Abbey did really well, Butcher better start signing more players soon, we hardly have a squad!!

At a stretch I could make an argument for Peters but I'm shocked at the Rhodes contract. Last year was his 'one more chance' year and (despite the GPG sponsoring his kit) we all agree he blew it. Let's hope TB has seen something we haven't.

..............very disappointed that Lloyd hasn't been kept on a 'pay-as-you-play' basis, especially as we are keeping both Peters and Rhodes instead, can't quite get my head round those decisions.....is Mackie to replace Heywood, or to play alongside him?.....not too sure about that, unless it is designed to piss off Heywood, who will after all then be on a lower wage than at BCFC if he doesn't get appearance money.....might make him want to move on........looks as if we will be desperately needing a first choice GK, don't see Masters being that person......shame we didn't keep Abbey, especially in view of the 'cost-cutting' treatment of him in the last few games.....look to be desperately short of midfield (shades of 2006/2007?).....thought Keith did enough last season to merit at least a one-year contract.......especially if we can move on Tillen.....


................but then maybe Terry Butcher has some much better irons in the fire, I certainly hope so, else he might achieve the ambition of many a manager, that of being manager of a Conference side.............

i would say it is a little unfair to judge our style of play for 06/07 on his style of play, given that he was cruelly confined to DJ'ing his way through most of the season...

on another note, i'd :poke: his missus :love2:

Sam Tillen is a ****!...How on Gods green earth can he have possibly earnt the right to play for this club ever again after his dispicable form this season.
Rhodes, struggled in Swindons league 2 promotion winning team, so why's it gonna be any different this time?

Releasing Abbey, a cheap and more than reliable keeper, Can't understand that, especially when he's only "Certain" back up is a Dodgy Rookie?

Certain points such as Releasing Brooker and peeps on Big contracts doesn't, really bother me, but the points I have highlighted are very very concerning IMHO.?

Tillen is currently "in contract".

I dont think the 8 who were "released" today are going to be the last to leave, before the next season.

o,connor,frampton,tillen are lucky that they can show us that they will want to improve for next season they have to now.... john mackie is a good signing hope he will be the captain next season.......... not suprised about nelson,pinault going........ get rid of brooker please...............:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

iam still unsure of butcher and some of the players he released or let go ie owusu, joe keith as for our present gaffer butcher the guy is a big name in football and he is living of reputation i still would have kept fitz for another season ya cant judge a guy that comes in halfway through the season

i think joe keith could do a good job and some of the criticisem levelled at him is totally unfair ya cant judge a player on half a season some fans here need to open their eyes a little and read into the game a bit more

Fans haven't judged him on half a year. Its been two years... of constant sh*te, bar the odd spectacular performance, which makes him all the more frustrating. :rolleyes:

but being in contract, this would have cost BFC money.....keep him...and try to loan him, or hope some one comes in for him on a free...that's the only options:sorted:

:D Yeah but like Brooker, he's a ponse and is going to be even more of a liability in the hustle and bussle of League 2. Like you said lets just hope someone comes in for him...As Highly unlikely as it is :sad: .

The whole idea of someone who puts so little commitment and so little passion into my club and also has the pleasure of getting payed for it at the same time is summit that I find exctrutiatingly (sp?) frustrating!

We all knew who were under contract for next season, so the obvious has been stated. It doesnt necessarily mean those contracted players will be staying, just at this stage, they are staying as they are contracted and the necessary work of releasing/offering to other players who are out of contract has been done and then these contracted players can be looked at. Out of those contracted, only want to see the back of Brooker and Heywood, the others can and will do a job for us.:)

I have to say, after a little time to reflect, that the decisions to give Rhodes and Peters contracts is quite an astonishing one.. With a budget as tight as ours we can't afford to be dishing out too many squad places to players who will at best be warming the bench...

I agree, slightly disappointed as by September this board will be full of I told you so's, they just haven't got what it takes.

Only justification IMHO.

But can't see either doing us any favours next year. Peters too lightweight and anonymous; Rhodes has dreadful first touch.

If Rhodes or Peters proves useful next season, the gambles will have been worth it. ometimes a drop in division can make a marked difference to the impact of a player.

Glad the stables have been partially cleaned but there is still a fair bit of manure stinking out the place.

With Nelson and Abbey being released, they must have somebody else lined up. I would not be suprised if Friday's signing is a new Keeper.

Didn't they do this out on loan this season? I can't remember reading glowing reviews from the clubs they played for in lower divisions. :(

How can u say he was crap when he was not fit for most of last season.But it would have been a gamble to keep him ,just hoping he would repreduce the form when he took us up the last time in the bottom division.

I to am sorry to see Abbey go , thought he did well in front of a poor defence last season . Must hope TB has someone lined up as Masters is to inexperienced at present.

I can't believe how much crap I have to read on here sometimes.

TB has cleared out all the dogsh1t he could and offered contracts to most of the players we want to stay, OK, so there are a few players on contracts that he is stuck with but Andy Scott has clearly dropped the big hint that he wants brooker out. I am sure there are one or two players in contract they would like to see the back off but it aint that easy.

Personally, like most of you, I am surprised to see rhodes and peters offered new deals but apart from that I am really pleased with their general assessment of the quality of players we have. I am not convinced I wanted to see quite so many juniors offered contracts as they are unknown quantities but hopefully its not a bad thing in the long run.

Some people are moaning and groaning because some players are still stuck here and others are moaning because we now have a really small squad "so its going to be a crap season"! Christ, give the friggin bloke a chance! A very good first move IMO.

I must admit to being surprised about Rhodes and Peters , but I for one cannot remember when Peters in particularly has been given a proper chance at the club . Popping him on for 15 minutes at a time is not a fair way to access his abilitiy/lack of abilitity , especially as we do not have a reserve team. I will wait judgement until the guy has been playing 10/15 games in a row. I hope he and a fit Rhodes come good as we were relegated on the basis of not scoring more goals. If Jo stays I can see him and Charlie scoring 50 goals between them next season which should see us honour my late grandfather in the right way With Promotion.

If Abbey was THAT good, would he have had something like 10 clubs by the age of 28?!! He was good but not that good, can't believe that fuss that's being made about releasing him!

Have to agree -- Rhodes has been given plenty of chances and has rarely delivered and Peters has shown little to suggest he will make the grade. Two valuable squad places are now taken by these players. Given that we also have a number of other inexperienced youngsters, it doesn't bode well, I think.

the guy got rid of abbey

he got rid of both 'name' goalkeepers so obviously has someone else in mind for the long haul!

I'm not bothered about the 12 month given to Peters & Rhodes as, if my memory serves me, both went downhill under previous management after showing considerable potential. So these two are the yardstick by which we judge Terry and Scott!!! :fishing:

All in all a good days work with a little more of the cull to come (I hope) and the total waste of space to be found a little place to go crawl into!!

As I remember, there are a lot of slow defenders in League 2 and given a run in the team, Rhodes and Peters are the type of players who could take advantage of this. In the past, I have seen both of them show promise. Let's trust our new manager's judgement. If we are to succeed next season, we all need to be 100% behind the management/players.
