No real surprises other than Rhodes and Peters, particularly the latter.

I guess we have to get used to the fact we are a Div 2 club and the squad and budget will be reflecting that. The likes of Rhodes and Peters are probably OK squad players for Div 2 at the likely low (2/3/400 per week??)wages they will be on and at that rate we will probbaly not get better bench warmers.

Reading between the lines TB may like to move on some of the other higher wage earners but it aint easy, there's some way to go yet.

Also just shows the rubbish printed on this site though about players contracts...

i still am unsure of butcher track record i know he was sacked by one of his previous clubs

Eight released

I to am sorry to see Abbey go , thought he did well in front of a poor defence last season . Must hope TB has someone lined up as Masters is to inexperienced at present.
if our defense would have been anything as good as abbey we would still be in league 1

Eight released

I have to say, after a little time to reflect, that the decisions to give Rhodes and Peters contracts is quite an astonishing one.. With a budget as tight as ours we can't afford to be dishing out too many squad places to players who will at best be warming the bench...

Also surprised by that, particularly Peters. Last chances for both of them, but as said before we cannot afford a squad of 22 senior/expensive pros.
The only way to get the sums to add up is by a balance of experience and youth.

Surprised Abbey`s gone, thought he deserved a contract on the back of his form last season and appeared to be shabbily treated by the club towards the end IMHO, but i guess TB must have someone else lined up:wave:

WHAT'S GOIN ON????

what's goin on????

yes i'm pleased they've cleared out some of the crap but in my mind the ones who have gone are BY FAR no the worst offenders, o'connor and frampton HAVE TO GO they are both a load of complete rubbish and if we keep them in our team next season we could be in serious trouble, they were by far the worst 2 players all season they should have followed allen.

:mad1: ALSO PLEASE EXPLAIN THE POINT OF SIGN RHODES AND PETERS!!!:mad1:

peters has no qualities at ALLL:

he can't shoot, pass, he isn't that fast and he's small and weak!!

alex rhodes in my mind has always been a load of complete crap, he only scored 1 important goal and that's all he's done

my money's on tillen going to allen, allen akways liked tillen and i bet he signs him

It will be a great shame to see Lloyd go he is by far one of the greatest brentford legends.

:owusu: :owusu:

releasing abbey was a big mistake the guy was quality and i feel would have excelled in league 2 butcher mate ya need to open ya eyes

If you followed Abeey's career over the years he has had many clubs and never stayed long anywhere...now what does that tell you...apart from he likes travelling...whilst I agree he was good for us in the games in which he played he has shown throughout his career he can never sustain it........IMHO...

Lloyd Owusu - You can't be sentimental. Goodbye and good luck.

yes you can, after all Lloyd has done for the club i think he had one more season, plus you've seen his effect on the pitch how he seems to raise everyones game, in my mind no matter how much Lloyd wants every penny is worth it

Eight released

So, at the moment we have a squad of;

Masters, KOC, Framps, Heywood, Tillen, Dark, Osbourne, Charles, Mousinho, Carder-Andrews, Peters, Rhodes, Ide, Montague...

So that's 14 players, 13 of which, on this season's form, you'd hope would be either warming the bench or in the ressies...
.

based on the 2006-7 performances of the senior players and
inexperience of the kids this is an average conference side

however, it's possible that some of the contracted deadwood will somehow be moved on and that the experienced goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders, widemen and forwards we need to compete in division 4 will be signed

could have used that phantom £250,000 at this point greg

butcher must have seen something he likes in rhodes and peters.
i find the decision retain them inexplicable. they lack character and they
don't strike me as hungry. apart from running around aimlessly like headless chickens and pretending to look like footballers i can't see what they'll offer.
a waste of money

So you believe a club that is losing the best part of 10-15k a week can be sentimental when it dishes out players contracts.

I don't think so.

Eight released

I'm thinking that KOC and Frampton will come back and be the players they were under Allen - then TB will look like a hero.

Add Mackie into the back four, to be the full blooded field general (hopefully they will take the captaincy away from KOC), and all we need is a bit of pace - ok, a lot of pace. so, that should be easy right .......... :nono:

Eight released

Anyway, great to now know who's staying and going. Guess we will hear that Jo's off to his new club soon.

.

June 1st is my guess as to the very earliest we will see the answer to where Jo plays next season.;)

If Alex Rhodes was as good as many Bees' spectators thought before he was seriously injured around New Year 2005 it is probably sensible for him to have been offered another year to prove that he can make a meaningful contribution at Brentford.

The fact is that recovery, both physically and mentally, from the sort of career threatening injury that Alex Rhodes sustained is a long process that may finally be coming to a satisfactory conclusion. It is to be hoped that he will be given every encouragement from the terraces and the club in the new season and that there is a happy ending for all concerned.

I am also pleased that Ryan Peters is being retained. On some occasions he has looked a good prospect and on others not. He is still very young and it is for the management and coaching staff at the club to ensure that he fulfils whatever is his full potential.

Eight released

butcher must have seen something he likes in rhodes and peters.

yeah their wages compared to Keith and Leary. Would have been too big a job to bring in so many players in such a short space of time so the shadow squad is building like so Masters, Dark, Tillen, Osbourne, Charles, Mousinho, Peters, Rhodes, Montague who are all under 23 except Rhodes.

The first team is looking like New GK, OConnor, Frampton, Mackie, (Heywood), (Brooker), New CM1,New CM2?, New LM?, New CF?, Ide, ?.

So six more new signings of which two will be kids. Add two more if we can get shot of Broker and Heywood and another two if we receive offers over 100K each for either OConnor or Frampton.

Eight released

lloyd tries hard and lifts the crowd but, given his injury record recently and his (lets be honest here) average form over the past two seasons, it makes sense to release him

if rhodes and peters are on small contracts (300ish a week ?) then they are at least a known quantity. By all accounts Rhodes played well in the Tranmere game and Peters is still young - he just came into the squad at an early age. I don't massively rate either player but I really don't think retaining them is the end of the world if the management think they can bring them on as players. Didn't Andy Scott start as an average winger and become a decent striker incidentally ?

sad to see abbey go but am presuming butcher has a senior goalkeeper already in mind. i liked pinault as well but can see why he wasnt retained when every penny counts next season.

i think there is a reasonable job that a couple of the the contracted six will also find other clubs.

Eight released

Stuart Nelson - Thank god he as gone.

Thomas Pinault - Shame started seeing some potential

Adam Griffiths - Off to aussieland for him

Lloyd Owusu - Thanks for some good times good luck.

Neil Shipperley - Shame he didn't retire sooner

Joe Keith - Shame better than Rhodes.

Calum Willock - What a waste of 50,000

Nathan Abbey - Who's the keeper now then.

Eight released

i would expect Peters and Rhodes to be offered 6 month contracts till Jan 1st 2008. If they show that they are what Brentford need then sign till end of season 2008. anything more seems to me to be too much.

agree with most that have been released, i assume Abbey isn't in their plans because i expect a Keeper/Coach coming in.

There's still a need for another GK, CB, 2x CM, 2x CF especially if JK goes. At least!

Eight released

so you know for a fact he hasnt got anybody in mind???

Read somewhere recently that there is a good keeper in the scotish first or prem. Not sure which, who wants to return to London, so he can study at university from Sept. Maybe some tie up here as Nelson and Abbey have gone
:fishing: Some one on the GPG will know his name

Eight released

It doesn't say that at all. Brooker is still with us.

****!...

Special Mention goes to the favourite player of some GPGers: Mr Paul Brooker - who seems to have been told to find another club.

Got a bit too 'cited from that bit.

Gutted about losing Nathan Abbey.. he showed passion and loyalty when it counted and worked for a solitary £200 per week towards the end when he was dropped to the bench...

As we are still left with Rhodes, Peters, Tillen, O'connor and Frampton, I won't be w*nking myself to sleep tonight..

By the sounds of it they want to pay Brooker off or make his life as difficult as possible...I hear Mr Butcher was none too impressed with his antics at Tranmere..:nono:

But until we rid the likes of Frampton, Tillen and O'connor we will never be able to make a clean and fresh start..

Eight released

The one name that stood out on the list that i didnt want to see.....Nathan Abbey.....i don't know the in's and out's of contracts and money but i'm disappointed because he was superb for us at a time when so many in front of him werent

if we must put up with this terrible trio i want at least to see
butcher move early to take the captaincy away from o'connor
who isn't a leader and who needs to concentrate on his game

through almost all of last sason the team lacked leadership on the pitch.

important we get this right

Like others, I'm a bit surprised about Peters and Rhodes but I doubt it will end up costing us a huge amount. Both players probably have one last go at proving they can make it in the professional game and won't be in a position to make unreasonable demands for their wages. I'd be surprised if they were costing us much more than £40k between them on basic with their packages probably slanted towards performance/appearance. The club will also be expecting to recoup a good chunk of that by loaning them out from time to time.

For a very brief spell (seems like about 5 minutes now) Rhodes looked like he could be a very exciting prospect but Paul McShane put paid to that. Whether he will ever get back what it was he looked as though he might have is debateable but I suppose possible with better coaching. A bit of pace might scare some defences next year in the last 20 minutes.

Mackie's disciplinary record doesn't look as bad as I thought. 7 yellows and 2 reds in almost a whole season last year. Not too drastic. If Michael Leary had played a full season for us he would probably have had 4 times as many as that ! Mackie seems like Captain material anyway so maybe O'Connor can concentrate on what he does best (missing penalties........!).

I'd have liked to have seen Garry Richards kept on. I'm not sure that Colchester wouldn't let him go and he probably wouldn't be on big money as a 20/21 year old. Apart from one or two dodgy ones at the end when he had obviously caught the Brentford disease he looked the part last year. Same goes for Cox although I assume Coppell will want him loaned out to a Championship team next year or higher League 1 at worst.

Not too despondent overall apart from Tillen not being given the same "edging out" treatment as Brooker. They are both equally wussy, the main difference being that Tillen didn't give the fans the two fingers at the last game, although some might suggest he had been giving us all a metaphoric two fingers all season with his sh*te performances. Maybe Andy Scott saw his only productive moment of the year (at Orient). If you are reading this Andy, please believe it was a one-off . Get rid.

Eight released

Yes a reasonably good assessment JT But a couple of points Sinon Cox's Range Rover was even more flashy than Nelsons so what money is he on at Reading.
Garry Richards sorry to see him go but is well thought of at Colchester and they are unlikely to let him go for free.
Apart from tillen satisfied with today especially the indication that we have signed a Captain in Mackie.

Eight released

Surprised you let Keith go. Whilst not the biggest of players I rated him when he played for us in League 2, worked hard, not slow, skillful, fairly decent crosser, ok at deadball positions, can't see why you let him go. In my opinion he was an important part of the O's promotion side two years ago.

Eight released

Have to agree -- Rhodes has been given plenty of chances and has rarely delivered and Peters has shown little to suggest he will make the grade. Two valuable squad places are now taken by these players. Given that we also have a number of other inexperienced youngsters, it doesn't bode well, I think.

somebody said earlier that he couldn't get into the swindon side...

neither could Cureton

Fitness looked to be a problem. Always looked to be struggling at the end of a game and certainly didn't have enough to provide cover for his full back.

Oconnor and frampton are in contract...you can not just release them without paying them, did you read the announcement? Maybe TB would like to manufacture a way out for them, or maybe he realises they will probably be the best two full backs in the bottom division and he can bring the best out of them again.

Owusu missed the whole of last season out injured whilst picking up a six figure salary, it may have escaped the the press on mars but he got another injury at the end of last season. He has missed a couple of seasons before he re-joined us injured, too much of a gamble.

Eight released

There will be signings of course, and I'm not knocking TB's decisions, but of those we definitely have next season (subject to others not coming in for players on contract), our team would be something like:

Masters
Osborne
Heywood
Mackie
Frampton
Peters
O'Connor
Mousinho
Tillen
Ide
Montague
subs Brown, Charles, Dark, Carder-Andrews + un-named kid

Of course that won't be it, but I thought I would just depress everyone with the worse case scenario:nono:

In terms of those on contract, I wonder if anything depends on whether MK Dons get promoted (when Allen might come in for O'Connor and/or Frampton)

Eight released

What is going to matter in the long run is who is brought in, not who is kicked out as, let's face it, the whole lot of them, even Kuffour and Ide, could reasonably be replaced.

I'll get excited, or not, when I see the new blood.

Eight released

Im glad Lloyd has gone now we can change our style of play and not just lump it up to him to mis control, been crap for 2 seasons, good ridance

He was our top scorer last season and was injured this season..................don't think he can be blamed for being injured. He gave it his all over the last two seasons, never hid from a challenge. He may not have been a patch on his first spell but he has been a good servant to the club.

Eight released

If Kev and Frampton are to leave then they'll be sold and it won't help maximise any fee if we advertise the fact we want to get rid.
