England U21

Just started watching this game (just as Thomas Ince scores to make it 1-0 v Sweden) and notice the pitch is awful. How can England Under 21's be learning/preparing themselves for the full team if they play on pitches like this.
On that note, if Walsall's Banks Stadium can be used, why not Griffin Park?

...........it's a trial run for Yeovil................

We played at least one U21 game at GP, late 80s or early 90s. I seem to remember Trevor Sinclair scoring for us - possibly Scandinavian opposition, but not so sure of that.

With all senior games at Wembley, I can understand them wanting to use other towns and cities for U21, though the pitch last night looked very poor

2 under 21 games at gp I remember !

Rep Ireland in 80s I think

Denmark in 95 we won 1-0 I believe

Trevor Sinclair was playing for Qpr then and his name got roundly booed when read out.

All the 'proper' Brentford supporters were at the Leyland DAF semi-final at St. Andrews :thetruth:

Gareth Southgate appointed manager on a three year deal. So that's why he was FA head of Elite Development?

Another player recognised for his technical ability and knowledge of passing football.

What is it with assigning medicore or failed exmanagers to key positions like this?

I would rather we got someone who didnt have a massive playing reputation but instead a great coaching record...

ridiculous decision to pick him.. 1 job as a manager 4 years ago, didn't set the world on fire then.. Middlesbrough chairman said he should have sacked him a lot earlier but was to weak.. rubbish rubbish rubbish

Gareth Southgate says his team's style of play will take precedence over results. Southgate added that his primary role was to prepare players for the senior team rather than win tournaments. "I'm under a little less pressure for results, although we want to get them in the habit of winning, but winning alone is not our aim. They've got to learn to win a certain way to be of use to the seniors"

Sounds like PR spin to me, to soften the public up for the bad run of results to continue. England caps are handed out like confetti these days, they'd be better off keeping players playing age group football until they're ineligible, rather than fast tracking them to the seniors.
