England's Chances?

I know that supporting Brentford hasn't made me the most optimistic of people but does anyone out there really rate England's chances in the World Cup?

I can't believe the Bookies have us at 12/1 (some as low as 8/1)??

I reckon if I was a bookie I'd really stick my neck out and take all the money I could.

Surely we are no smaller than a 25/1 shot??

I can't see us doing anything, I'd love to be proved wrong..

What do others think?

England's Chances?

No f@cking chance.

We have 3 world class players.

One, Steven Gerrard is definately out, another, David Beckham is highly doubtful and the other is Michael Owen.
Effectively then we have a one man team.

I think we'll be lucky to win a single group game.
Love to be proved wrong though!

I'm in agreement with you Bob.
I'd love us to do well, but it just won't happen.
The Bookies are idiots not to be trying to rake it in, seeing as a lot of the country are still peculiarly positive about our chances...

England's Chances?

We're not in great shape but then who is? Brazil are arguing amongst themselves, France have not yet got their form back and Argentina are supposed to have some injury problems. I think this may a World Cup with some surprises so England are worth a punt, particularly at 12/1.

England's Chances?

Being in exile, I believe that England may surprise a few people and do not too bad. With the absence of some key players it might just gel the squad closer, witness this mornings game against Cameroons, better late than never!! ENGER-LAND etc.etc.

England's Chances?

Before the injuries to David Beckham, Gary Neville, Steven Gerrard et al, I thought that we would do well to get out of the group of death. We have a mix of about three world class players (Beckham, Gerrard and Owen) and a lot of very promising and highly inexperienced youngsters. One of our world class players is out injured, another is doubtful and hasn't kicked a ball for six weeks and the final one has a history of injury problems.

I'd love us to do well, but it ain't gonna happen so I'm not getting my hopes up. I wouldn't put money on us at 100-1.

I'll take your money at 12/1 Stanley if you fancy it?

England's Chances?

Don't know if it still the dissapointment of this season, the unsocialable kick off times or the on going injury problems, but i am struggling to get that excited about the world cup

England's Chances?

The crucial thing is to get out of our group. The most important game is the one against Sweden. With the Argies kicking off before us,as long as we match or better their result V Nigeria we have a good chance of progressing. However,if I was a betting man I would have a few bob on the Italians.
Come on you Bees (which group are we in??).
:p :p :p :p :p :p

I agree. My problem I think is that no matter how far England go I just think they're going to play such uninspiring football that it'll depress me - we'll see. I'll still watch all the games!

England's Chances?

We have looked poor in the friendlies, but then we always do when theres nothing to play for.

No-one expects us to win it this year so it might just take the pressure off the boys. I fancy us to do better than most people are predicting but I cant see us winning it.

We will prove a point against the Argies, once and for all, just like we did the Germans.

England's Chances?

Same feelings my way, 3 key players we have, 1 out, 1 injured and 1 who always worries me about his injuries! We will draw all 3 not enough creativity or penetration. U never know tho if we get out the group, anything can happen......................

England's Chances?

this talk about world class players, aren't you forgetting paul scholes and after the world cup probably rio ferdinand

Indeed, anything can happen. But the most likely thing that will happen is that we'll get France in round two. Not a very appealing thought.

I am looking forward to the World Cup, though. Despite the early kick-offs, there will be lots of football matches to watch, with different styles of play and much to enjoy.

My tip is Italy. Easy group and they're in the easy half of the draw.

England's Chances?

I reckon we'll get out of our group, beat France in the second round, and then get knocked out...

My monies on a Spain vs. Argentina final...

England's Chances?

Isn't it a refreshing change to be going into a tournament not expecting to win it. The media for once seem to be playing down our chances.

At least if we do well it'll be a pleasant surprise instead of the normal level of expectation. It IS a cup competition and anything can happen but whatever the outcome it's 4 weeks worth of football fan's utopia and I can't wait.

England's Chances?

Isn't this world cup just part of the long term plan for the youngster? I fear this is what we may have to settle for as It's asking this young squad a lot to compete with the likes of Italy (my tip), Argentina and France.
I fancy Ireland to progress, Is it really beyond them to beat the Germans?
