England's Future

Just seen our results in the under 20's.....

Drew with Iraq 2-2!!!
Drew with Chile 1-1!!
Currently losing 1-0 to Egypt with 10 mins left!!

Now, not saying we have any right to win games, but we should be beating nations such as these even at under 20 level!

Under 20's and Under 21's are both piss poor showings!

We haven't managed to win a single one of our last 17 games in the U20 World Cup Finals. And no. That's not a typo.

Of course relatively few of our top players at that age group level are released by their clubs for the tournament but nevertheless it's a pitiful record.

Who gives a sh*t.

The national team is full of ***** who are more interested in their own social status, being a big name premiership player rather then playing for England.

In all truth I don't blame anyone for wanting to make as much money as they can, as that what everyone tries to do. But if they expect me to care what they do for the national team/ support them well in truth I cant be ****ed, and this comes from a very proud Englishmen, who follows the cricket team round the globe.

The sad truth is, if the players dont give a sh*t about the national team, why should we?

Sad but true, a wage cap needs to be introduced ASAP, Wayne Rooney is a prime example of what is wrong with football. Brilliant as a kid, had £5m by the time he was 21, then slowly but surely performances have got worse. Too much money too soon.

England's Future

Our players have the ability, coaching and even technical flair to a degree but they lack the passion and drive at national level that other teams seem to have. I watched the game against Iraq, we were at a different level at times but could not match the opposition for desire, such a vital ingedient.

Completely agree. I have stopped bothering with the national side since around the South African World Cup. Im not sure if i have even watched an England game since. I really dont care about the England teams because I dont feel they care about playing for them.

Theres all this talk about how important the national team is. Well is it important? I admit I have barely watched an international match in years but enjoy watching the Champions League. Im also glad Jake wasnt picked for the Under-20's, thinking selfishly about how it would effect his season at Brentford. I regret to say but for a long time now ive felt club football was far more important than international football.

Like you im fanatical about the England cricket team as well!

Do they have the coaching? There are 2,000 UEFA A licensed coaches in England whereas there are 30,000 in both Spain and Germany. I think it's the lack of a technical infrastructure, and the limited opportunities to break through at the top level clubs due to the ease with which they can bring in foreign imports, which holds back our national team, not any lack of desire on the part of the players

Maybe but I bet Iraq has a lot less than 2000 and most of our players would be at Premiership setups...I just felt they played with greater desire and passion. We were hardly in a "group of death" and yet went out to three teams with a fraction of our resources.

England's Future

Seems an endemic problem throughout all levels of our national team, we have expectations based on the fact we are constantly told the prem league is the best league in the world. Unfortunately the British players are not as technically gifted as their foreign counterparts but, when playing in teams full of foreigners their performances seem better than they are

Listening to Gary Neville he explained that previous generations of footballers were told to hit the ball long and into the channels and then get wingers to cross for bustling centre forwards. Pretty well the style we have witnessed at GP for many years prior to Rosler

He pointed out that gradually we are developing players that don't play that way, eg Wiltshire, but unfortunately at The bottom of the pyramid this is still the chosen way forward. He is at St George's today watching junior coaches but realistically it will be many years before we produce players that are: patient, comfortable on the ball, intelligent and skilfull

Seemed to be an honest assessment and perhaps the press should take note and start to lower expectations as we all know that, should we qualify for the World Cup suddenly our players will be world beaters prior to the tournament and then abject failures afterwards with the normal inquests to find blame

The future is not good in my opinion and personally I beleive we have been let down by, the FA, the Prem League and the players

To some extent the idea that it should all be about winning at under 20 and under 21 level is wrong.
We should be encouraging total football at this age, in order to compliment some sort of national plan for all football, which leads onto the Full England team playing attractively and successfully.
The Spanish have done this well.
The Germans are doing this well

On the other hand, We (the fans) are being screwed by the FA and Premier League and not getting the end product for our main national team
So I expect a clean sweep next time round of the World Cup, Euro's, Confed, U21, U20 and Homeless World Cup.

England's Future

We've known what's wrong for 30 years, we don't have enough trained coaches and we value physicality over technique.

Not much has changed on either of those in those 30 years. Throw in the amount of foreigners in the Premier League and we are where we are

England's Future

The only hope for this country, football wise, is to take its head out of xenophobic arse and stop blaming 'foreigners' all the bloody time. if our youth players were good enough they would make it, they arent so clubs bring in better players from abroad. we should be learning from these players how they've been trained and implement it in our youth coaching. the whole shoddy system needs an overhaul. coaching at all levels needs to be made more professional, more people should be offered the chance to take up coaching training by the FA possibly at uni/college to make it a worthwhile career choice, more funding should be made available to get schools involved in taking PE as a whole more seriously and getting kids to play sports properly.
