Enjoy it while it lasts

Brentford should get full support for these three games. We should enjoy the 2nd Division while it lasts because next year there will be no easy games for us like Huddersfield Town, Stoke City or Cardiff City. Next year it's gonna be Derby County, Leicester City, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Crystal Palace and Portsmouth.

yea right, fraid its gonna be mansfield, cheltenham, luton and argyle for us next year. Lets face it, we arent gonna beat cardiff, in cardiff, and if we do, none of us will live 2 tell the tale  50k welsh, 10k bees fans. ouch
If we do go up, it'll be a miracle. I dont want to be all negative and i know people will reply saying "how can the players be confident if the fans arent" but its true and u all know it!! an mayb! just maybe!! by being negative (which we never are) this time it could win it for us!! oh yea, and also, we may not even get to millennium stadium, i've got a feeling huddersfield wont play like they did last time.

F uck me, how do you get through the day? There's also no prospect of Bolton, West Ham, or Middlesbrough winning at Old Trafford either, is there? All I can say is that if we do get to Cardiff and win it, you'll have missed out on witnessing it since you obviously won't be going through fear of defeat or getting a kicking.

Of course i'll be going. But, when i stand by my seat before the game, I just know we are going to lose. Its in brentford blood. The only time we can hack it for the big occasion is when we're in div 3 (peterborough, cambridge)
come on, back me up here peeps, we know we arent going up, all we needed was a win against reading, we knew we werent gonna get it. it'll just never happen for us on one single match. Sure we can go up automtically like brighton cuz we have the quality to do so, but when its left to one match, the oppo fans always go away smiling, tis unfair.

Suppose you had these negative feeling before we played Brighton and Reading away.

What a waste of a response.........

Right.........so winning the second div championship in 92 at Peterborough was an example of not being able to hack it then?

Peterborugh was Division 3, I don't agree with what he is saying and I have full belief in our team, but it is a long time since we got Promotion out of anything other than Division 3.

Only for another 16 days though,....... I still believe.

Below is the 1st Division (now Premier) league table the year I was born, Brentford were 5th and the best in London. We have had our share of ups and downs over the years since then. Getting promoted from Division Two(3) is fantastic but it is not the dizziest height we will have scaled.
Here's a proposition for you: Make a solemn promise that you will switch to supporting QPR or Leyton Orient if Brentford wins promotion.
That way, your self-fulfilling prophecies of impending doom will ensure that when the inevitable catastrophe befalls you and you wind up at Loftus or Brisbane Road, the rest of us will be enjoying the balmy waters of the First Division.

where does it say to be a good supporter of a football club we all have to be blidely positive and believe whole heartedly in everything our team do. I used to do that, then i went to wembly, and the millenium last year, and Reading on Saturday and countless other occassions where we could have done so much better. For alot of people who have been there and seen it before they dont come with expectation but hope, doesnt mean they want their negative thoughts to come true, give the guy a break, i sympathise with where hes coming from and his comments come from despiration and frustration at another missed opportunity, lets just hope we can shock everyone in the next 3 games.

No mistake, Edmundo. Manchester United were in the Second Division in those days. The great Man U manager, Matt Busby, played half back for Manchester City at that time I believe. In those days over 84,000 went to Maine Road for a game!!!!

I just noticed that in the two seasons shown in this thread, Stoke City and Huddersfield Town are in the top four and now we're battling them both again for promotion! It has to be a good omen for the Bees.

Cardiff City has the task of overcoming Stoke City. There's no certainty about the outcome of that pairing. If Cardiff should get lucky, playing at home in front of a stadium full of fanatic home fans does not guarantee defeat for the visitors. Ask the Royals!

Some people seem to be forgetting that when we won the title in '92, it was the OLD division three, i.e. what is now division two. We were promoted into the new division ONE.

Lets all get behind the BEES. Please everyone have faith. We will do it. They beat us on penalties last time, this time we will stuff them

Every one of the four clubs in the playoffs have been up and down the divisions. None have a lock on winning. None have a lock on good or bad luck. Brentford and Cardiff have been the form teams in the second half. When it comes to play-offs it's the team that plays best, stays injury-free and lucks out if it comes to penalties that will advance.
Brentford has the best record and the best manager and should have a good chance of prevailing.

The use of a full-stop after "nm if not" suggestds a new sentence and therefore not an attack on you.

Bit of a contradiction there?

Why do you even bother turning up, with an attitude like that.

thought possibly the thanx was sarcastic? nevermind, who gives a sh*t :p and i wouldnt bet money on us getting promo either, but im gunna be there to find out and support and hope they do. surely thats why we all go, out of hope. if u go out of expectation to brentford ur gunna have a bloody hard time getting pleasure out of it (as i did for the 3 seasons i expected something) were a small second division club and we gotta enjoy the good times when they come.

W2hy do people bother saying sh*t like 'we are a small second division club'? We are not a small club we are brentford and we are the best we are the brentford so **** all the rest!

And some of us don't mind being wrong or taking a bit of needle for supporting our club, however blindly. Come on mate, who cares about being realistic. Maybe if all of us were not so realistic, and started 'bigging' our club up, we may get some much needed publicity. I for one will still tell lies to those who don't know better about brentfords' sucesses in the past!!

I think us newbury folk are the only ones who know what we're talking about!! :p

And no i wasnt having a go at u newbury bee and i dont know whether u were being sarcastic about saying u were williams from st barts, so whats your sisters name?? and, if u r him, i am the guy whose mother u spoke 2 in tesco :D

Anyway, lets enjoy the extra games, although its unlikely we'll win :P:P:P:P Remember lads, points of view, just cuz only people from newbury agree with me, doesnt mean either one of us are wrong. Some prefer the optimistic approach, some the realistic.

Some want their cake and eat it too. They want to be seen as a fan and they want to save their sorrow by posturing as the expert who knew better. It doesn't work, believe me. There's nothing realistic about predicting doom or triumph. It won't make you look like an expert if we lose and if we win, nobody is going to remember your lame comments. Most of us prefer fans who put their heart and soul behind the team and then share their glory or their sorrow. Standing by saying 'I told you so' if the boys should lose wont help.

Is it something in the water in Newbury? Yes, your point of view is that we are unlikely to win - you'd do us all a favour if you kept it to yourself.

None of us know how it's going to go - we just know that we have a good team, we've beaten all three other sides in the last three months (two in the last month) and we were very, very close in the Reading match.

Just because we lost the LDV or lost in the play-off against Huddersfield a few years ago means nothing in so far as these games are concerned - just like those people who thought we were going to smash QPR because we smashed Fulham in the Promotion run of 92 were wrong (though it would have been lovely).

Get behind the team - they deserve it and are more than capable of the promotion we all want to see.

And, please, if you can't agree with that, please keep your thoughts to yourself until after May 11.

Come on you Bees - we will do it!

Well, I'm staying as close to the game as I can from this distance. While you're there Buzz Bee Si, give em a cheer from me and tell the boys we know they're going to do it!

But hey, who cares! We will win!! And yes i realise that is just a tad contradictory to my first comments, but hey i may aswell be positive, and also get u moody lot off my backs! :D :D

some people get so up themselves it's scary...

i totally understand the pessimist approach - it can be so heartbreaking, building yourself up for a failure, that some people prefer to dull the pain by accepting that it ain't gonna happen, and being pleasently surprised if it does. sadly in recent season, it's typical brentford to be a let-down :( this squad is made of sterner stuff, but we'll see eh?

but, even if i do take that attitude, doesn't stop me from being a fan all the way, sang my ****ing heart all day - but i can't take the let-down if (when?) we fail - slate me all you like, but it's different people and different ways of doing things...

Listen to the players, Dan. They want to know and hear their fans believe in them. When they read and hear stuff like this it could undermine their confidence a little. Fact is, none of know it is or aint gonna happen, do we?
Believe in your team and accept what happens no matter how gutting or delerious it makes you feel. Let's face it, you're gonna feel it anyway. Predicting doom doesn't do anything to mitigate the sense of disappointment when your team loses.
We just looked at some random standings in the past week that stretched from the mid-thirties until today.
Brentford, Stoke and Huddersfield were in a group of three contenders and winners in all three of those football league seasons in the thirties, the nineties and now. You can bet that their fans felt each season about their teams exactly the way we do now and they are scared that they won't make it. If we can make a tiny difference by showing the belief and hope in our team, why not do it?
