...on channel 460-ish on SKY.....recently discovered this gem of a channel, showing old sporting programmes from yesteryear......

Superstars (the orignal) got an airing
Boxing (classic bouts re-shown, with original commentary and no retrospective comment)

but last night I saw a classic.....they are currently running old European Cup classic games....last night was Ajax v Inter circa 1972.

Brian Moore commentating (never appreciated him until he stopped -RIP-)

Ajax playing football all over the park, Inter behaving rather like a dirty version of Yeading FC. Moore kept referring to the company that make bathroom cleaning fluids for some reason !

Wasn't that game played on the evening of last day of 1971/72 season ?. I seem to recall driving to Workington (that place really is a cemetery with lights) that day to see Brentford lose 3.0. and then listening to the commentary on the England Germany match on the way home.

tuned in the other day to see Martin Jol setting up a goal for West Brom and then saw some classic John Barnes at Watford action lol :hero:

What a class act, from the days when lightweight players didnt dive around and beg for cards.

Can't Brentford scour the Polish leagues for some young nippy wunderkind ???

What gets me too .. is how the English batsman had such little body protection against the fierce bowling against them !

what about the way that forwards used to be allowed to try and block the goalkeepers goal kick in the 70's and early 80's,they have made it into one of the laws of the game now that the keepers drop kick is one movement and cant be blocked.

Just finished watching England versus West Indies in the 4th test at Headingly 1976. The Windies scored 450 in a day.

We lost despite a brave batting display from Tony Greig, who shared a 46 run partnership with Alan Ward. Greig scored 40, 6 extras. Proper tail-end stuff from Ward.

Nice to see batsmen walking when they know they've nicked it and back slapping pitch invasions at the end of the game by mop-haired youngsters.

Happy days.
