Excuses, Excuses

I am getting really sick and tired of seeing the same responses almost every time we get beat-"we dominated, we couldnt score, we outplayed them" blah, blah, blah. It seems that the lack of scoring goals and putting teams away that we dominate will (i hope not) cost us promotion. I would much rather read a quote from Uwe that says we werent good enough than more of the same old excuses. I am looking forward to coming over for the last home game with Donacster, I hope it will be something to celebrate

Excuses, Excuses

Wonder if you will be called a troll??

Excuses, Excuses

The thing is, they aren't mere excuses.

We are playing well in some games, we are dominating possession ins some games, we're passing the ball around well.

We just seem to struggle to score enough goals.

Again I don't see it as excuses. We've got 3 proven goal scorers at this level and another who started well and is on his way back.

Uwe said it wasn't good enough and that other teams may be smarter than he'd thought and allow us to dominate as know they can still win. Whatever his faults he doesn't hide or offer poor excuses, he usually calls it as most of us have just seen it, just wish he'd foresee it and
deploy tactics that result in us winning away from home more often.

Excuses, Excuses

In terms of quality on the pitch, we're not that much better than other sides in this division. There will be games when we can't grab a goal, where it will cost us points.

Uwe's in his second season at the club, has put together a pretty good team and has us 3rd in the league. People seem to be getting ahead of themselves. We're not Manchester United, we can't expect perfection every game, some people really need to lower their expectations to match the quality of the team.

And as said above, Uwe certainly isn't a manager who constantly makes excuses when we don't perform.

Can't agree, I think we're one of the best footballing sides in this division, possibly B'Muff and dare I say before yesterday MK Dons match us.
I would say on paper, alongside B'Muff we also have the strongest set of forwards with a proven track record of
goals so strange why we have scored relatively few goals this season. I've stated it before but worry that Uwe is over complicating matters and tactics, start the players in form, tell them to find space in dangerous areas, instruct
other players to pass to them and when they receive it
hit the bloody target. It's weird, we have a world class forward as Manager and some of the most sought after strikers available but we can't get them to consistently operate
effectively ?

Another nonsense thread started by someone who does not attend games 1 loss off the back of 3 wins & we get these ridiculous threads GPG is very painful read sometimes.

Uwe is usually spot on & very honest wether we win or lose

The whole point of the game is to score more goals than the oposition. I don't care how, but lets bl...y well get on and do it and get promoted.

Rubbish support and get behind the team, start attending a few more games before you post drivel like this.

We don't have a divine right to win games and score goals. Uwe is always totally honest in his comments about our shortcomings

The alternative arguement would be at least 3 away games lost on the bounce with out a goal, and I think it maybe a bit worse then that.

Yesterday wasn't pleasant and none of our away games have been for some time now, and it could be the things that keeps us in this division.

He's as entitled to his opinions as much as yours and dissmissing them as nonsense is demaning and lowers yours arguement imo.

Excuses, Excuses

Playing well is irrelevant when you lose.....our away form is dire and it needs to improve fast or we won't even make the play offs

What more can be done though?

As I mentioned in my earlier post, our possession and build up play is spot on more often than it is not and we've assembled a top class list of strikers for this division, all with a proven track record of scoring goals.

How BWP has only the 1 goal so far is beyond me. He's seemingly done everything right at least 3 other times and it just hasn't gone in.

Against Scunthorpe and Walsall, Trotta was like a man possessed in the first half of each in terms of getting the ball and firing it on target yet it didn't go in.

What more can Uwe say about things like that other than "we dominated the game, created plenty of chances" etc etc ?

How can you even have an opinion of how a football team is playing if you don't see them play ? & like I said Uwe is always honest in post match interviews and I have never felt he has ever made excuses for a defeat so IMO this thread is nonsense. But i do take your point about our away form it is def a concern lets hope we can turn it around on sat with 3 points against Cov

I prefer Uwe to take the flak and give his excuses as he has, than the last but one incumbent, who slagged off all and sundry and never looked at himself and the way his plans weren't working. Scoring goals is what football is all about. Come the end of the season we'll see whether we've improved and if we get promoted or not. That's when arguments can be made as to whether Uwe did it right or not. Until then, I'll let him get on with his job, backed by MB, and I'll support what is on the pitch whether we agree with it or not. Instead of booing a bloke from Fulham because he's lazy, letting Hayes know he's sh*t when he first came here - some people now want him back - slagging off and booing the side at half time at GP and also telling Uwe he's no idea what he's doing behind the dug outs. He's there to do a job, it's better than what we had been watching and we have to get used to his way of playing. If it works, we'll all be cheering his name. If it doesn't, I'm sure MB and the board will let him know. As chief apologist, supposedly, I'll support the club to the end.......

Crewe, Coventry, Sheffield away tickets arrived on my doorstep this morning!!

There are no more excuses!!!! For not attending supporting your team!!! However these tickets will be shoved up whose arse starts defending uwe if we lose all three at Sheffield!!!

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, regardless of whether they see them play or not, some people may get to see us every week, some may not to, that doesn't mean that they can't gage what is happening by views of supporters, commentators etc in various different media formats, and if they can't get to see us play then we need to make sure that everyone airs theirs views, so that both sides of the arguement gets put forward or disputed.

At the moment you just have to look at a break down of the league table to see where our problem is. Our home record is explemary and our away record has to put it midly been in decline since Boxing day and you don't need to watch us every week to know that!

:imwith:

Uwe has said on more than one post match interview that he got things wrong and will learn from it which is very refreshing I think.

Also I would rather we dominated and lost than got played off the park and lost.

Ps We are third with games in hand FYI.

Fair play to you mate if you can listen to what anyone has to say about Brentford wether they attend games or not. Personally I can't take someone who does not attend games opinions to seriously I have to know they have good knowledge & see the team play regularly before i can engage in serious conversation there's only so much you can gage through media & forums.

Uve said in one interview that we should probably do some shooting practice this week, good but 40 games too late.

You misunderstood me. We're one of the best in the league, being 3rd shows that. But we're not head and shoulders above anyone. Not a Brighton, not a Sheff Utd before Evans got sent down. I feel people are overly critical of the team. Donaldson is really playing at his limits, I doubt we'll see him improve on his brilliant form this season. We've only just brought in Wright-Phillips. Past that, we've had Trotta and Hayes, both can do a job but neither are great or consistent. The likes of Forrester and Saunders are quality midfielders who can come up with a goal or two but you can't rely on midfielders to score your goals throughout a season.

I think people see the brilliant passing moves, possession play and think we should be matching that with goals simply because the passing moves and possession play can be so good. We simply don't have that great of a forward line in comparison to other top teams this division has had. I mean past Donaldson who else do we have to consistently bang in goals? It's not a criticism of our team, you have the players you have and that's it. Donaldson is a good goalscorer and good in build up play, the rest of our attacking players bar BWP are good at build-up play but not great goal-scorers at this level. I just feel people are asking too much of us because of the position we're in. If this were last season we'd not be 3rd, we'd be around 4th/5th/6th and people have to remember that.

If we'd of had Donaldson, BWP and Farid fit and playing together then I could understand the comment about lack of goals. But Farid has been out injured and BWP took time to adjust, as expected.

We've just taken 9 points out of 12 and someone who has openly stated he hasn't seen any of the games is moaning about excuses.

Excuses, Excuses

So because I am not actually there I dont have an opinion, talk about arrogance! I have seen the Bees 6 times this season and I live 4,000 miles away, I am also seeing them again before it finishes. It is total ignorance to discount someones opinion that doesnt mesh with your own and call it nonsense. I thnk the pot may be calling the kettle black here. Fact is we dont score goals, fact is we dont put teams away when we have them dominated, why is that ridiculous

Excuses, Excuses

Uwe's generally been honest about a performance, only occasionally do I disagree with him.

Sometimes games just don't go your way, you could say that about yesterday (although I wasn't there).

In an interview any manager will try and justify why their team didn't do well, if they just say "we're sh*t" every week it's not exactly going to make the players or fans feel good is it? You'd rather hear of what you can take out of the game, rather than how it's not looking good for the future.

Again I have seen them 6 times this season and am in touch with people both inside and outside of the club almost every day. I can see quotes saying we dominated games and come out with a point or even a loss, so based on that I dont have an opinion? It is unfortunate that you have to descend to rudeness to make your point

Excuses, Excuses

I currently live over the pond too and I've listened to every post match interview given by Uwe. He never clouds anything and says it how it is.
Change "excuses" for "reasons" and try to put a positive spin on it ... We know where our deficiencies lay. (I know we've had that problem for a few years now !)
I'm not the most patient of people at the best of times either .. but sit back and think about it. This club is on the up. Everything is geared towards success. It might not happen this season, but it sure will soon.
Buck up lad and think positive ;-)

We've not had the quality to finish teams off throughout the season, it's that simple. Farid has been injured all season, Donaldson is a good goal-scorer and allround player at this level but he has proven time and time again that he cannot take easy chances that give him time to think, that was certainly a factor against Notts County when he went 1 on 1 with their keeper and should have buried it in the corner, instead he lumped it into his chest.

Past Donaldson our other two forwards have been Trotta and Hayes, both decent enough at this level, both have contributed in one way or another but neither are good enough to spearhead an attack and consistently score vital goals. Past them we have Forrester, he's won us games this season but he's only young and plays wide-midfield, you can only expect so much. His injury recently also didn't help.

Just because we have the quality to dominate and create chances does not mean we've had the quality to finish them. Again, maybe if we had Farid fit this season it'd be a different story, maybe if we had BWP from the start it'd be a different story, but we haven't. We've had one striker who you can realistically rely on to spearhead our attack and with all the good he does for us even he has a habit of missing the easy chances that could win us games we tend to draw or even lose. Past that we've got a group of players who chip in with goals but not much more.

We've got 6 games left, Wright-Phillips looks settled with us as much as he can be at the moment and has got off the mark with a goal. Farid is playing with the development side. We should have 2 regular goal-scoring forwards at this level playing and hopefully Farid can make an appearance or two towards the end. Get behind the team and stop expecting more than what they can realistically deliver.

Doesn't surprise me that you caught a bit of mild rudeness there. Grim opinions on how we're sh*t and Uwe doesn't take responsibility look a bit odd to me. It's not just you the stress of brentford doing well has clearly pushed a few gpgers over the edge.

You shouldn't get too uptight over what Managers say in their post-match interviews, since often they are either unable, or unwilling, to say what's really on their mind.

A good example of the latter came earlier this season when Man Utd were playing Swansea, and some journo asked Alex Ferguson why MU hadn't been in the hunt for Michu. "We weren't aware of him", came the reply.

Yet a few days later, a British Sportswriter in Spain revealed that MU had actually had their Chief European Scout watch Michu in five games (at least) last season. Why was Ferguson so coy? Answer, the Scout in question was this man: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Ferguson_(footballer) .

Anyhow, the point is that it's not what managers say in the Press Room which counts, but what they say in the Dressing Room. And with Brentford 3rd in the Division, with 7 games to go, including one in hand etc, I am happy that Uwe is getting it right in the Dressing Room more often than not.

Just like Ferguson, in fact.

P.S. Fwiw - admittedly not very much - I've always thought Uwe to be one of the more thoughtful and candid of interviewees, which imo is a good thing.

Excuses, Excuses

Everyone is getting nervous and trying to work out how the season will finish, who will beat who etc. I havent missed an away game this year and whilst we won at Oldham who were really poor, we lost at Yeovil who were in a great run of form, won at Crawley, then lost at Stevenage (lost 14 out of 18) and lost at Carlisle whose only win in ten games was against us. Then on Monday we lost against MK who supposedly had seven players out and were knackered according to their manager. The Carlisle and MK games were similar in that for fifteen minutes or so we pretty much dominated but ended up losing. When we score first we look a far more confident side as at Oldham (5 mins) but we have scored 5 goals once and three goals twice this season. It has been two or less in every league game bar those. Thats not a criticism, but a fact. We struggle for goals. That puts more pressure on the defence and when we go behind in a game the nerves appear, especially this close to the end of the season. In fairness we have been unlucky too. Whilst looking for a striker all summer we only got Paul Hayes in after the Bury game and he hasnt worked out. Farid was very unlucky in getting injured. So really we have done very well to be in the position we are at the moment. We have as good a chance as anyone at the run in. We have missed good chances in recent weeks to add to our points tally but i couldnt believe the table when i got home from MK. Its still in our hands and we are guaranteed another great turnout at Coventry. We have to keep the faith and hope we have it in us to do it.

Excuses, Excuses

sorry, with Tucker here, what's the point of this? just more moaning cos we refuse to win every game. i'm continually amazed that Uwe doesn't plan to and try to win every game - no, sh*t, maybe he does, but maybe the other team does too. if he does bad more often than good we'll can him and get someone better (hopefully!). but i daresay they're doing their best, aware of the situation, and those pesky opposition players refuse to lie down.

the reason (or excuses) are all over the site, consolidating them here will be useful for................ no-one. apart from the original poster letting us all know that he too has noticed that we don't win every game.

I'll be there with lucky shorts on (but not visible!) and lucky eldest son coming along from Uni. Every time I have brought him along in the last 3 years we have won!

Excuses, Excuses

Think it's all down to frustration, we can see the finishing line but are very nervous as to whether we can get over that line, something that I guess applies to our young players as well

We all know what happens in the play offs cos we have been there, done it and got the T shirts, unfortunately history shows our players forget to turn up. However if last August you had offered a play off place most would have taken it which Is why I am fairly sanguine about our position.

The manager is as aware as most as to what is required and I am sure would love a promotion on his CV. In his post match comments he is pretty honest, more so than most, so I don't really see them as excuses more a realistic appraisal of what has gone wrong

Will enjoy the rest of the league games and if we fall short shall look forward to the play offs and whatever that brings

Excuses, Excuses

The main difference - or the missing ingredient - is that we don't have the overblown budget to pick up a really proven goal-scorer, like B'muff (who've collected plenty), for example. We have to work with what we've got and pick up lower-league players, other team's rejects and some kids on loan. Given this restriction... or this reality... Uwe has done a great job. We've found gems in all positions but it's the goal-getters that make the difference.

Excuses, Excuses

A point of clarification.

I have been a passionate Bee since 1961, this team are a major part of my life, they are in my blood and my soul and always will be. Like many, I have traveled far and wide and if it wasnt for them I would have no wardrobe as most of my leisre wear consists of something Brentford. I lived and grew up in Shepherds Bush withing earshot of the hated hoops yet always went west on game days to see the Bees. Since living in the USA I have never, in 30 years gone a season without traveling over to see at least one game, one season I saw then play 11 times. Once I travel over for the Doncaster game, this current season will make it 6 times that I have seen them play and living in the NW it is 4000 each way when I do it. My point is that whereas I respect different points of view I totally resent UBee5's comments that beacuse I am not there I dont have an opinion and should be discounted. This is a great era for Brentford, we are operating on a scale that I have never seen before, professional in every aspect and with the new stadium loomimg, things look really bright. Good wishes to all that feel the same way but please dont tell me that I shouldnt have an opinion-thanks:)

Pipe, you talk an awful lot of sense but please advise how you plan to ENJOY the rest of the league games and look forward to the play offs. I've got even more grey hair since Monday just mulling over the top 6's remaining fixtures trying to second guess results and how that leaves us. I'll give you it's better than a relegation dogfight but sadly I'm not enjoying it much. lol

Excuses, Excuses

Surely it's pretty obvious that making a thread complaining about how Uwe always makes excuses for when we don't win and that us not being able to finish teams off will cost us promotion is going to annoy people. Especially when you've openly stated you've seen 5 games this season, regardless of where you live that is not enough to judge the team, the quality of players we have and what they can and cannot achieve on a football pitch.

We're in a great position, better than we could have hoped for when Uwe first took over, we have a good team mixed with very good young players who can go on and do a lot better than League 1. It seems as if you're complaining for the sake of it because when I watch Brentford I see our players giving 100% (bar Trotta, obviously) and giving everything for the club. Them simply not being able to better the already great league position they've put us in because they don't have the quality to do so shouldn't be complained about, and neither should Uwe's management. They can only do so much.

It wasn't long ago we were midtable at best, remember who put us in this position before it goes to your head next time.

Excuses, Excuses

I feel for the guy, it's horrible watching at the moment with no real fluency on show from the team, at least we see it and have an image of the day in our minds, the poor bleeders who have to read the frustration must be going out of their minds.

Mate, top post although while obviously heartfelt think your first sentence sounds like the lines of a Rod Stewart song, another lapsed Bee if we believe what we read!

I think everyone is getting tense and no one doubts you live and breathe Brentford regardless of where you live but we have become used to at least one expert who lives abroad telling us we don't know what we're talking about when regular die hard knowledgable types have dared to criticise tactics, formations or players.

In fairness probably best UBee5 and you kiss and make up, we're all in it together, are passionate about this club, obviously want the same things and occasionally in the heat of the moment type things that may not convey exactly what we meant and offend. See you at Donny game, hopefuly with a huge Promotion smile.

Excuses, Excuses

Lets leave it at wehere it is, read my post I never mentioned Uwe just an observationthat it seems to be after every defeat it is a shoulda, coulda, woulda, rather than we got beat and cant score. If you only want opinions that agree with your own, talk to yourself. Having said that, will be happy to buy you a pint before the Donny game:)

That's if he's not too busy spitting at old ladies in bus shelters. Only joking UBee5.lol

Such a straight forward post but one that sums things up perfectly IMO. So many games we've ended up drawing or losing as we didn't take our chances. For what it's worth, I don't think the lack of goals problem is confined to us. I remember reading posts after the Bournemouth home game which suggested that if they had Trotta and Donaldson up front they'd have beaten us 2 or 3 nil

The thing is, even when we dominate and outplay the opposition, we never seem to score more than two in a game. It's been the case pretty much for the entirety of Uwe's managership.
Oh, and Curbishley emphasised yesterday in the Daily Mail the importance of having a settled starting XI. I agree with him. Also, a common complaint on match threads is that Uwe seems preoccupied with stopping the opposition or with what threat they pose rather than focussing on what problems we can cause to them.
IMHO, he should be making alot more use of Dallas, at least as a sub.

Exactly, the purpose of putting on a sub is to change things, unless it's for an injury. Going all defensive AT HOME when you're 1-0 is a poor tactic IMO...

Surely it depends on how longs left in the match.
It's a poor tactic going all out attack if your 1 nil up with 5 min to go.

The main difference - or the missing ingredient - is that we don't have the overblown budget to pick up a really proven goal-scorer...

I wish someone would tell the likes of Karl Robinson, Martin Allen, Andy Scott etc etc that!

We have scored 3 goals or more in only 3 league games this season. Amazing considering our position in the table. Perhaps we're saving it for the run in.......

I know the goalscoring issue seems the most important but I also think that we have, to a certain extent, been rumbled in terms of our passing game which served us well in the first half of the season. We have been out-muscled by poorer sides recently and we do not have the strength to compete when other sides flood the midfield. This, plus the fact that Douglas and Forshaw are showing signs of fatigue has compromised our effectiveness. I think the power of Adeyemi and Diagouraga could be essential in the last few games.

I do think that we have been tactically naive at times this season but I wouldn't blame the style of play. On that basis a team of cloggers would beat the likes of Barcelona. The problem in my view has been an inability to convert a reasonable % of chances and chopping and changing the starting 11 and formation. Good sides dont worry about the opposition they just play their football and let the other side worry about them. All this balls about setting the team up differently when playing away gives the other team an edge. All too often we win a couple of games and then Uwe changes the side and format and hey presto we lose!
I also think that this is the time to leave out anyone not totally commited to the cause. Trotta certainly falls into this category and should be forgotten. He is not worth a place on the bench and just annoys the crowd when we really need to be behind every player. I think 4 wins and a draw at Sheffield will see us promoted. Anyone who doesn't think that is possible is very pessimistic.Hartlepool( already down ) Coventry and Crewe ( nothing to play for ), Portsmouth, Doncaster at home with a capacity crowd for the last game. We almost beat Chelsea so why cant we beat them. Its doable. Keep the faith!
