Good old FA!
Saw quotes attributed to the FA attempting to justify the kick-off time. One argument was that it was the same kick-off time in 2012.
Another, with regard to no trains home, stated that only a tiny percentage of supporters travel to Wembley by train.
A load of b***ocks, if you ask me.

Don't know if I'll even bother watching. Man City vs Wigan holds no interest whatsoever for me and I suspect many others. Man City will put out a second string and Wigan a second rate team - matters not if it's 0-0 or 6-5, it'll be like a testimonial game for City.

those days are over i'm afraid. the fa want 'gameweek 38 of the epl' to be the season finale now. the champions league final being at wembley has provided them with a convinient excuse to shunt the final around. the fa cup has been demoted to an irrelevant sideshow by the clowns in charge of the fa.

I don't have a problem with it not being the last day of the domestic season - playoffs were later than it, even before the EPL week 38 hype. But it should be the only game of the day and a 3pm or 3.15 kick-off, 4pm at latest, While it may only be a minority who want to do it as a one-day return by train, that would still be several thousand, for whom this is a major hassle

The FA Cup has lost the appeal and spectacle it once had. I haven't watched an FA Cup Final from start to finish, as I did in the 70's, 80's & 90's, or have a little bet on the game, for what must be 15 years now. The FA have ruined what was a very special competition. It should be the last game of the domestic season (play offs excluded) played on a Saturday with no other matches on, except the Scottish Cup Final as it used to be and kick off at 3pm. If they did that, I may start to watch it again. The FA Cup has lost its way due to the FA EPL and European competitions. Sad really.

It is absolutely clear to me that the day the FA cup died was the day of the 3rd round when Manchester United didnt take part as they were in Brazil in a World Club tournament. Why they couldnt /werent allowed to put out a reserve side, I'll never know.
From that point on the FA cup lost all of its allure and lustre and just didn't seem essential like it always had.

They probably asked Sir Trevor Brooking for his views after last year's final - no doubt the dithering old codger's still trying to decide between 'yes' and 'no'.

I think the last figure is the only one they thought of....
And "a small amount of fans used the trains"...was probably because there were last minute delays on the Liverpool service and fans couldn't use it, and Chelsea fans simply didn't need to use it...
But I myself don't have a problem with this KO time, the Champions League has become the biggest sporting event. It's a European event rather than a national one, it doesn't make much sense to me that it be played on a Wednesday night like it used to...

Think the reason the FA Cup Final is not after the PL Season finishes is cos Wembley needs to be "quarantined" for 2 weeks before the Champs League Final for some reason - hence why the Football League season finishes earlier than normal to fit in the play-off finals before Wembley has to be "shut."

Oh, Ok, there was a 2-week quarantine period last time it was at Wembley 2 years ago.
In any case, there is no free weekend at Wembley that you could hold the Cup Final on after the Premier League has finished this year unless you waited until June.

I wouldn't expect anything different from you with your great outlook and attitude - some of the rest of us have lost the passion and interest that we had as kids. Getting up early and switching between the two channels at about 9 am when you got to see them having Breakfast from Oatlands Hotel or Bellhouse in Gerrards Cross, then the player profiles, the road to Wembley, It's a Knockout, Mastermind and then the coach journeys in. It all seemed so exciting and I remembered every cup final was a fantastic, nail biting, exciting affair with invariably the underdogs snatching victory - started watching start to finish of game Leicester vs Man City and then the early 70's unbelievably dramatic games Chelsea vs Leeds, Liverpool vs Arsenal, Sunderland vs Leeds, Leeds vs Arsenal - all so tight.
Maybe it's because we can watch live football whenever we like nowadays but it really only used to be Cup Final and European Cup Final- everything else was snippets and extended highlights on MOTD, Big Match or Sportsnight and you never got to see some of the goals of the season as MOTD only had cameras at 2 or 3 games and Big Match likewise for many years.

TV has been saturated with football and the biggest achievement in league football then was to do the Div 1 and FA Cup double. Now clubs think they have achieved if they finish 4th.FA Cup Final
Since 1988 there have been 24 finals

Arsenal and Man United 5
Liverpool 4
Everton Man City and Spurs 1
That leaves just ONE cup won by someone who was not a Big club(at the time) !!!!

That's where it's wrong in my eyes - as a football mad kid in say 1970 - Leeds, Liverpool and Man Utd were big clubs and Chelsea and Arsenal were very much make weights and the final that Chelsea won vs Leeds they were under dogs as were Arsenal when they beat Liverpool 2-1 the following year even though they did the double, strange as it may seem.
What you had though was really great, dramatic cup finals that made household names of players that most of us had only read about in Shoot, or seen a photo of in Roy of the Rovers. Sunderland had Dave Watson and Dennis Tueart who went on to become England regulars but before that cup run I'll bet no one had heard of them, yet after the game they virtually all became houshold names as they had beaten dirty Leeds, which was unthought of - Stokoe, Montgomery, Malone, Guthrie, Pitt, Kerr, Horswill, Hughes, Hallam and Porterfiled (how sad am I ). You can then follow that up with the likes of Southampton and Ipswich where journeymen like Bobby Stokes and Roger Osborne had their day in the spotlight, the FA cup threw up great surprises and stories but now with social media and digital era it's access all areas 24/7 so difficult to create the same anticipation and atmosphere.

Pompey were probably about as big when they won it as Everton were in '95. They weren't exactly a small club anyway as they had players on £40k+ a week.
Also, in the 80's 8 of the 10 finals were won by Big 5 clubs at the time - the exceptions being Coventry and Wimbledon both beating Big 5 clubs in '87 and '88.

For me its the FA themselves who have devalued its own cup tournament. Scheduling of the final in recent years during same weekends as PL matches, even cup finals taking place just minutes after league matches. Plus its insistence that all semi finals be played at Wembley.
I dont accept that clubs like Man U or Chelsea etc are to blame. If anything, the biggest clubs have always put out strong sides for the cup. Man U only pulled out of the cup in 2000 because of the FA's insistence to play the meaningless tournament in Brazil instead.
Its clubs like Stoke, and somewhat ironically Wigan, and this season Championship side Cardiff, who have devalued the cup by putting out much weakened teams in the tournament with just a shrug of the shoulders if they lose. The FA should follow the JPT example and implement a rule that at least half the team should be picked from the previous league match.
Then theres the semis at Wembley. we have great stadiums across the country that could hold semi finals, yet the insistence that they take place at Wembley is simply based on greed and devalues not only the Cup but Wembley itself. The Wigan-Millwall tie should act as a wake up call to that, but nothing will happen.
I dont blame Sky, how can you? They have not even shown the Cup for years now. If anything, TV coverage has tried to promote the cup, with its talk of history and heritage. And i dont believe that the final kick off time of 5.15 is necessarily all TV's doing. If TV wanted to make the most from the Cup, 5.15 is the worst choice to make. People dont sit down to watch TV on Saturdays at 5.15. Its usually full of Youve Been Framed repeats or Pointless Celebrities. People are either coming in at that time or often thinking about going out or having something to eat. TV would pick either the traditional 3pm or more than likely, 7.45pm. Big Cup Final in May on a sunny early evening as it falls into dusk and then night and on prime time television getting 9-11 million viewers. This would be my choice for 21st century Cup Finals.
So what about the trains or lack of them? I dont remember the Barca supporters moaning about transport when they came to Wembley on a Saturday night in May a couple of years ago, but yet they came over from Catalonia in their thousands. Im sorry but if Brentford got to the final and it was held bizarrely, at St James' Park, and if i had no transport, id bloody walk there! Im sure its just a minority of fans moaning, but really, get over it Wigan, your in the Cup Final! Its the greatest day in your clubs history!
