I work in the world of politics. The support of Livingstone (who incidentally readily admits he knows f**k all about sports) towards the new stadium is useful, but I hope the people negotiating the deal know what buttons to press to get his, and the local councils firm support for what will be a difficult planning process.
1/ The club need to stress the regeneration effects a new stadium and developments surrounding it will bring to the area. More high rise won't be popular but can be overcome.
2/ If a major transport interchange can be incorporated in the scheme that will help. Any chance of properly linking train, tube and bus? Local residents will oppose on grounds of extra traffic and overcoming this objection is the key.
3/ Everyone needs to look at the Mayor;'s London Plan,
, revisions to which are out to public consulation until December 22nd. Are there sections in there that could help Brentford FCs case for Lionel Road?
4/ Plans need to be put in to place now to deal with the objections there will be from local residents, amenity socities and the like. Don't forget a major development on this site will have huge impacts on places like Kew, with increased traffic levels etc, tall buildings etc, and you can be sure that there will be more opposition than support from these quarters. KD will need to use his Powerpoint presentations to win the residents (and Richmond Council for instance) over, and GD will need to remind all of those people who work in the media and live in the area how they still should love him
I really hope I am teaching people to suck eggs here, and that all this plus much more has already been done. I have more confidence that KD,GD and the Board are likely to have thought about all this than previous 'leaders' at our club would have done, and I think their public relations skills are a 100% better than we have had for a long time - but it won't be easy folks!
