what is your favourite brentford player currently/recently?
and why?

you all know who mine is Mr P Smith- because he is a brilliant player aswell alrite looking.

I think Jay Tabb is god-like, and I'm also a fan of Dobbo. In terms of past players, I liked Paul Smith, Ivar Ingimarsson and Ijah.

For sheer crowd-standing-on-their-feet excitement, it has to be John O'Mara. Big John is the only player I have ever seen at the club who had that effect on the crowd. And bear in mind we were getting 3 or 4 thou more than we are now. I remember a game against Grimsby when the big lump did not even know the ball was dropping behind him until the crowd roared. He took it in his stride and whacked it and the first the keeper knew was when he picked it up out of the net. Happy days.

Like one of the earlier responses, my first Brentford hero has to be John O' Mara. I remember my dad being reduced to jelly when big John walked past us and we got his autogragh on a ten pound note. Unfortunately, it wasn't put in a safe place and my mum went and spent it at bingo! She was in the dog house for weeks!

Just think what that tenner would be worth in this day and age....

Batesy was always good for a chat despite some "indiscretions" towards the end of his career. He also got me and a few others into the players party after Peterbro '92.

Jay Tabb.

If you ever speak to him he seems to be as enthusiastic as your average fan. And he told me that his favourite moment of the season (this was a couple of months ago) was hearing the Bees fans at Wycombe chanting his name, coming on and scoring in the last minute. Which makes him a legend in my book.

I always liked "Super" Gus Hurdle, mainly because he was utter rubbish but always tried!

And also for his agent circulating his details to other league clubs (to get a better deal) whilst he was contracted to us and including us in the mailshotrofl rofl knackering his clients employment :D

I always liked Martin Grainger as you got a full-blooded perfomance every match and is the best LB I've seen in a Bees shirt (sorry to Gibbo's supporters). Oh and Taylor were another of my favorits.:D

The likes of Peter Gelson run a close second for sheer effort and that he reminds me of Captain Black from Captain Scarlett.

mine would have to be paul stephenson, diddnt really shine at first, but the way he came back from that awful head injury was very impressive- even if he did leave because he wanted to go back 'oop norf

Great list, as you mention Ollie Mansley, it was strange talking to Dobbo during the second half at wycombe this year (came off with flu) and having to admit that his Dad (George) was one of my first ever footballing heroes.
Stevie Phillips for me though, oh how I wished he scored at Grimsby, and remember the hat-trick at 'uddersfield

Bowles for being such a class player, you just don't see that level of skill in a Bees shirt, even if he was at the end of his career.

For sheer Brentford legend it has to be Gelson, he who led us ( on the pitch) through the dark days of the late 60's. A giant of a player.
