First Match

I think it was Port Vale at home - Andy Sinton was playing so would have been around 86-87?

my memory tells me sinton scored a belter in this. top corner, brook road end (wendy house by now? i think so...just...). came in from the left wing and pinged it in curling upwards and outwards into the top right hand corner. ??

my first match was arsenal v leeds in 1980. despite my dad being a brentford supporter and regular at GP for some reason he though this would make a more exciting 6th birthday treat. 0-0. boring and crap. he took me to GP in the next season and that was that.

First Match

I've done this before - I think it was early 1971 season in Div 4 and we won something silly like 6-1. Anyone know what match that was - I'm thinking someone like Hartlepools.

What a game to start with ! I remember John O'Mara got his first Bees hattrick in that game. Soon after he got another against Northampton , when we also got six. A bygone age, with royal oak stand and big gates. What a great season it was.:)

First Match

First game was 1970/71 season notts county at home 2-2 not sure who scored both goals , john doc and bobby ross i think .

First Match

I cannot pinpoint my first game either, it was mid 70's and the away team were wearing white. Can anyone help?

I'm going for Northampton, Bradford or Swansea.

First Match

It could've been Bolton Wanderers in the FA Cup in 1975-76 season.

I remember this match, even though i was 10, drew 0-0 and lost the replay 0-2, there were over 12000 there!!

They seem to have gone on a graffiti tour after that game too. I remember seeing BWFC on walls in Hanwell for years after that game. I had always assumed the two were connected as I don't remember seeing any before the game (but I was young then you understand!)

He did, but I don't think it was 86/7 - it might have been the following season. I can, however, tell you, almost for sure, that the crowd that day was 4,013. Just as I recall, for some reason, that the crowd for Bliss' debut v Chester was 3,496. And that is very sad indeed.......

First Match

And for the record, my first match was a 2-0 victory at home to Exeter over Christmas 1974. We were 2nd from bottom of the 4th Division at the time, above only Workington. I was bored and demanded that we leave early, the only time that I've ever left a Bees game before the final whistle (though I've been sorely tempted on inumerable occasions)

First Match

Mine was Bury at home in 1973 in what was then correctly named Division 4. We lost 1-0 of course! It was meant to be the match before where we lost 1-0 too - to Hartlepool I believe. Those were the days!

Who is "Maddy"?The memory is not what it used to be.

Paul Maddy, a skillful attacking midfielder with a great shot from distance. Scored a couple of long range screamers too. As always, a bit inconsistent but did well. Think he might have been a Wales Under 23 international too. Think we even got some money for him.

First Match

My Grandad brought me to GP around Xmas 1966, can't remember too much as I'd only just turned 6 but can remember standing half way along New Road staring at the then size of Griffin Park with the Royal Oak away to the right !

Whatever happened to Robbie Carroll? I though he was a decent player who seemed as though he had a good future ahead of him but did he then slip away into non-league.

Engraved in the mind forever - Rochdale Home 3-0 Home Win Dec 1975 - As a 7 year old, 3 sent off, Terry Johnson, Sweetzer and the Rochdale Keeper Mickey Poole for trading haymakers a la Frannie Lee and Norman Hunter.:box:
My dear old dad says to me at the end - "Don't expect that every week, my son".:thetruth:

I was on the Royal Oak for this one. We went 1-0 down then Alan Nelmes went on a mad run beating players for fun before slipping it through to Keith Hooker who knocked it past the keeper from about six yards in front of the Oak. Strange how some games stay fresh in the memory. A rare Thomson goal as well, pre-kick off he always used to spend the whole time taking shots at goal whilst Gelson and co. booted a ball around by the halfway line. All that practice paid off for once.

I remember this one.

I was standing on the Ealing Road terrace and most of the Bolton fans were standing in New Road on the halfway line down the front.

Neil Whatmore scored both of Boltons goals in the replay at Burnden Park.

Don't ask me why but I always seem to remember that.

I was at this one.

The thing I remember, apart from the punch up was running round to Braemar to get my tickets for Wimbledon away in the F A Cup the following week.

First Match

Somewhere around January 1947 Brentford vs Wolverhampton Wanderers. Bees won 4-1 although we got relegated from the First Division that season but I had already contracted the Brentford virus of which there is no known cure.

First Match

Today marks 10 years since my first match at Griffin Park, Brentford v Port Vale in League 1 (1-0, Salako pen). I had been coming here for the rugby before then (mainly because my son was playing junior rugby league) and so my mate suggested we try the football here, and we’ve been coming on and off ever since. Before then I was a bit of a drifter football-wise, just going to odd matches with mates as a neutral (Palace, Fulham, etc.), but there was something about the Bees which hooked me in, even though I was already knocking on a bit, plus some local connections (including that I was born locally and lived in Kew for a while) made it seem the natural club to support. It was a good time to get on board, Martin Allen was a real character and the subsequent supporter buy-out was inspiring. Of course I’ve not lived through all the highs and lows of the club’s history like many here have, and I still sometimes feel very much like a newbie, but I’m also happy to call myself Brentford.

That Port Vale match was the 9th league match of the season, so although today is ten years to the day, the Leeds match marks the "official" tenth anniversary and me and my mate will be there. And 27 Sept will mark ten years on the GPG too :D so thanks for all the entertainment and friendship on here as well :sorted:

First Match

Tomorrow marks 27 years since my first match - Brentford 2-1 Blackpool.

Happy anniversary, me and BFC.

...and thanks and love to ISB, whose idea it was to go to Brentford that day. :love2:

First Match

Brentford V Stoke 91-92 for me. Think there was about 9,000 there. Went with a Stoke mate and his old man, tried to get in the away end but it was sold out so went in the Breamar upper. Won 2-0, Carl Beeston for Stoke got sent off. Don't remember much else. Happy days.

Beaton was sent off for kicking Rowlands up in the air, wouldn't we all like to do that now.

First Match

I think some people's memories are becoming muddled...

First Match

It was Wayne Biggins who was sent off for an elbow.

Row lands didn't join us until 1998

Luscombe scored a beauty.

It was very, very muddy.

Blissett put one over the bar from two yards out.

A Stoke 'fan' punched the chap whose job it was to take down the goal nets.

First Match

Stoke game was a great one. Report in the independent was, I think entitled 'Brentford wildcard raises the Stakes' referring to Luscombe. Thought he was a great player but only had about a year before he faded away.

First Match

28th September 1965 Brentford v West Ham 7:30pm kick off. I don't remember anything of the game but the vision of walking up the dark steps of Braemar Road into the amazing sight of a floodlit green pitch will remain with me forever. Pure theatre.

First Match

I stand corrected, it was Wayne Biggins, seem to remember that the away fans were in the New Road stand and that the Ealing Road was shut for some reason - hope I am not making that up.

Behind the goal was closed.
They had seated supporters in A or B block. These were led across/around the pitch to the Ealing rd exit.

First Match

Fri 03 Apr 1953 SWANSEA TOWN H League D 0-0

We finished around 15th in Division Two (second tier) that season and I was excited about 'my' team the next season.

Sadly the next season we were relegated and only had one season since then in the second tier until this season..................I guess it was all my fault!
