Fixture congestion

Just looking at the fixtures and notice that beginning with Lincoln (a) we have to play 17 games (18 no doubt when they sqeeze in the Chesterfield game) in a matter of twelve weeks. This is going to put an almighty strain on the squads resources re. injuries and suspesions let alone any further postponments because of bad weather.

Fixture congestion

We have three consecutive weeks of Saturday and Tuesday fixtures which is preceeded by two weeks of Saturday-only weeks and followed by two weeks of the same. I hardly think that constitutes "fixture congestion"

Fixture congestion

It is for clubs on limited resources like I said about us re. squads but then again little can be done about it I suppose.

Fixture congestion

Accrington game aside aren't most of the teams in our division at least playing on the same days?

Professional footballers should be able to handle a Saturday/Tuesday schedule now and then even in the bottom division

Fixture congestion

It's not ideal BUT we could find ourselves in 2nd place at the beginning of February with TWO games in hand. Pretty much shoe-ins then :)

Totally right!.....if they cant play twice a week and keep fit somethings wrong!

Allright if we pick up a couple of injuries then things may get a bit rough, but thats scotty's problem to make the right decisions over the next few weeks so we have inough cover.

He hasn't let us down yet....keep the faith TW1bee!:sorted:

Oh no! how many games have our rivals in that period? I'm guessing 1-2 less?

besides when your playing well you want games thick and fast.

Fixture congestion

Well after today we will have two games in hand over some of our rivals. However, I bet AS would happily trade those games in for four points.

My faith is as positive as ever. My main point was that we need to keep injury free and suspension free as possible so that AS can do a bit of rotation. I agree with everyone that pros should be fit and ready to play whenever and wherever. Perhaps AS will have to cut down the training schedule. Doesn't it make you want to shed a tear for those Premiershite teams who claim to have to play too many games:cry:

Fixture congestion

Aldershot v Notts County
Barnet v Grimsby
Chester v Luton
Exeter v Port Vale
Morecambe v Lincoln City

All called off. Most are in the bottom half but I can see them all being home wins. 5 from 10 being played

If Exeter's match had been played yesterday, they would have had 8 matces to play in January, so we are probably in a similar position as other clubs. The only exception to that, unfortunately, is Wycombe Wanderers, who not only have been able to play their games, but have earned the points from them.

Does the weather not suggest that we won't be travelling to Lincoln this weekend?:(

Forecast is 4 degrees( sounds like a Tenerife tribute act) so should be ok.

'kin good job we're out of all the Cup competitions. Kev's testamonial might have to be a 5-a-side.... :(

Looking back at the 62-63 season, when the Big Freeze meant we didn't play any matches between 27th Dec and mid-Feb, we ended up playing 2 games in Feb, 8 in March, 9 in April and 4 in May.

End result - we won the title (admittedly, several clubs were worse hit than us).

Don't despair yet, therefore.

A lot of games in those days and up to not too long ago were re-arranged beyond the official season's end, but they won't allow that now hence some clubs having to have played Tues and Thurs at the latter end of recent seasons. I remember some old Div.1 sides having to play in the cup final and complete their league programme the following week.

Ch'field now included on Paddy's day. Add poss Linclon re-arrangement and we're in for a busy time.

The Lincoln game is 4 and a bit days away.

Lets not talk the game off, before a Friday Pitch inspection has even been announced.

:nono::nono:

Currently, I can confirm, the Lincoln game is ON !

Fixture congestion

If you consider the postponements of the Accrington and Chesterfield games, we've only played six league games in the past seven weeks. For a professional footballer, that's not a lot, so there's no reason why the players shouldn't be fresh to face the next few months of the season. If my calculations are correct we have twenty-four games to play in sixteen weeks, roughly a game every five days, shouldn't be too hard.

I await for the statto's to correct me though!

Wycombe (and therefore also Dagenham) and Bradford have lost their games tomorrow which only serves to equal things up a bit, hoping of course that our match is on :sorted:
