Fixture List

Given that the Champions League is now, possibly, even bigger than the Premiership, and most matches are now shown live on television, does it make much sense for the Football League to have a full set of division one and two fixtures going head-to-head?

Given our low attendance last evening, I would suggest not.

Maybe this is something that should be taken up at Bees United then Board level and possibly raised with the League with a view to changing the dates next season?

Maybe Monday should be Football League night when the Champions League matches are live on tv on Tuesday and Wednesday?

Fixture List

It was always going to be a small crowd whether there was Champions League on TV or not.

Fixture List

Years ago evening fixtures tended to be at the beginning and end of the season. That made more sense than having them in late October/November, even leaving aside the clash with the Champions League.

Does anyone think that maybe an 8pm kick off would be better as I often read stories that people arrive late due to work and traffic .. a slightly later kick off might make the difference to some who give it a miss because they cant get to GP intime ???

But I agree about Champions League clashing with FL fixtures .. but like others are saying .. the FA dont care about us :(

At a guess, might it be counterbalanced by people having to leave earlier to get home?

Its about time the football leasgue considered the fans. There must have been about 60 away fans. Surely we should be playing the likes of Aldershot, Barnet, Luton, Wycombe etc midweek as fans make the effort to get to these matches. This would then promote bigger crowds than last nights were we playing Morecambe on a Saturday.

I suppose some people prefer the 'local' games on a Saturday.

Problem is that having the local games midweek will not maximise the numbers travelling. You could argue that Morecambe will come in a taxi whatever day of the week it is, so you might as well have them at a time when Manyoo are on the box.

I do think that the League ought to do more to avoid games clashing with the Champions League, but I don't know how easy this is - I think the JPT and Carling Cup slots don't help.

I counted 46.

:thetruth:
The turnstiles counted 38, according to the official site.

That is shocking, although not unexpected, that must be one of the lowest away followings at GP, not including the Anglo Italian Cup when it was zero.

the fixture computer needs to be thrown in the bin....well done the 48 morcambe fans who came down

I think there's always been at least one midweek fixture slot around this time of year- I'm not sure why, maybe it's to tie in with October half term.

I agree it is a pain to have the Champions League on the same night but there's football on TV every night anyway- there was Premiership on Monday and there's UEFA Cup this Thursday. I'm not sure it would be worth reducing the scheduled gap between some games, to only 2 days, to combat that.

There's enough football on TV to keep every armchair fan at home all year round, I don't think it's possible to have all our games at TV match-free times.

I counted 13 in the terracing at one point. I bet we take more fans to their place when we play them away on a tuesday night!

Pretty safe bet Claire!!

Great...looked like more stewards than fans downstairs. Why open the terracing then?

Why open Brook Road full stop. Shove them into the corner of New Road. Surely there is a way of getting them there without having to get mixed with home fans. Saves money too surely by NOT opening the stand.

Peter Gilham made a point of addressing thier fan's and thanking them for attending. The bottom line is simply that the people who run football couldn't give a stuff about the likes of Brentford or Morecambe

Fixture List

On a Saturday against opposition, who might bring more (and be more attractive to the neutral) we might have got 5,000

A Saturday against Morecambe would probably have been around 4,700

Even without Euro football on TV, I don't think we'd get more than around 4,200 midweek (except Luton or one or 2 others, or a late season game with promotion in the air)

Morecambe without Euro football we might have got a max of 4,000 but no more, so it may have cost us potential 300 fans at an average of £10-12(?). A relatively small sum, but every penny counts

Whereas midweek games were a treat when I was a kid, now there are more things for people to do in the evening and our fans are probably more widespread geographically, which can make it harder to get there and home on a Tues night.

Might be worth experimenting with a Monday though - if the away team agree

Fixture List

Monday night would be great, little hash on the players playing saturday and monday but they are trained professionals ;)

Andy Scott said after the match he was angry that a full Football League programme had been scheduled for the same night as Champions League football. He went on to say the Football League has done us no favours with Tuesday night trips to Chester, Morecambe and Grimsby this season.

well we are just about all agreed on that one then!

yes, it is complete madness. the fa should use any influence they have ditto the football league.

No it wouldn't, wife works on Monday and i look after kids. :nono: Tues nights break up the week nicely too. In any case who in their right mind stays in to watch Champions League when Bees are at home. Loads of our supporters live a way from Brentford and can't make night games. Thats the long and short of it.

Totally agree, but there's nothing new about this, mind - they've been doing it for a long time.

Can't even begin to see what it has to do with the FA.

I reckon there are a lot of people who come to Griffin Park who "also support" a Premiership team - especially one that wears blue. They might not be your or my ideal flavour of Brentford fan, but we benefit from their attendance when they do come - but on a cold October night when their "other team" (possibly preferred team) is on telly, it isn't going to happen.

But they played last night and our crowd was still bad on Tues.

i agree with redmundo yes.

morecambe would have only brought an extra 150 fans on a saturday. :bound:

BUT in the GLAMOUR TIES...
luton maybe bring 800 midweek and 2000 saturday.
aldershot 400 midweek, 800 saturday.
wycombe 400 midweek, 1,200 saturday.
barnet 500 midweek, 900 saturday.

these figures are EXACTLY correct.

However Tuesday saw :
Barnet v Wycombe & Bournemouth v Dagenham. Which yes does make more sense.
Where Morecambe have to travell 200miles +. And we have to do the same next week away at Chester. And im sure we go to Morecambe on a Tuesday.

But yes i prefer local games to be on a Saturday.
Games v Notts County,Gillingham wouldnt be that bad to put on a Tuesday.

I was offered a ticket for Chelsea/Roma (by my boss) and even though it was on a different night to our game and free, I turned it down with the time honoured phrase:-

"I wouldn't even open the curtains if it was being played in my back garden".

I don't have SkySports or the Irish version, nor do I watch Champions League on terrestial TV, as I am not interested. It even takes an effort to watch the premiership, esp on a Saturday night after a few pints!!!!

Wheras, if Brentford played 7 nights a week (preferably at home, as 7 away trips might cause some sort of family problems!!!!!) I'd be there every night.
