Floodlights off?

Just looking at Wigan's floodlight problems, can you remember the lights going out at Griffin Park?

I think there was one in a game against Barnet in the League Cup in 1991, any others? :computer:

I can remember two occassions, the first when the club asked over the tanoy if there was an electrician in the ground and shortly after when they used the same method to request the sevices of the individual who had previosly helped by name.

No idea when though, possibly 86/87ish

I think there was a game against Newport in the early 1980's when the lights went out.

I thought it was Newport in the early 80s as well. A call went out for an electrician followed by another plea a few minutes later saying that it was serious and an electrician was desperately needed. I'm not sure it wasn't Nigel B's dad as he was an electrician and used to sit up in the old Y wing but I might have imagined that.

Well remembered W.O.B.

It was Newport and, yes, it was my dad, God rest his soul.

He used to maintain the floodlights in the sixties and seventies when the regular contractor was unavailable; remarkable really as he was terrified of heights.

Luckilly it was control room problem at the Newport game and he was back sitting with his mates inside ten minutes or so.

im sure they went out in a game against sheff utd...early 1980's.. also that game there was about 50/60 united fans at the bottom of royal oak... shaking hands with the locals...:box:

I'm sure it happened two games in a row in the 90's one at Griffin Park on a Saturday against I think Chesterfield and the following mid-week at Swindon.
Both of these happened before the game and caused the kick offs to be delayed.

On this topic, why is it that almost all the crowd in unision go "Whaaaaaayyyy" when this happens. Can't remember being at any of those games when it happened but I would be well p****ed off especially if we were three nill up. There again if we were three nil down might think differently and come out with a "Yesssss" instead.
