Formula 1 2013

Will see another Brit on the grid as Surrey born, Max Chilton has signed for Marussia. :sorted:

His big bother Tom, already races in the BTCC and WTCC.

Kobayashi has given up on getting a drive for next year. Bit of a shame as he was always good to watch the last couple of years.

Formula 1 2013

Hopefully Mercedes will produce an excellent car. Come on Brawn, work your magic.

Formula 1 2013

Will the departure of Haug make a difference?

He's made a fair few mistakes in recent years. Fresh ideas will hopefully put them at the front.

Thanks to the BBC, we get to see Suzi Perry in place of Jake Humphrey. :sorted:

he was ok, but he made a few derogatory comments about Eddie Jordan, almost treating him like a tea boy. Not good.

Meh, I thought Jake was brilliant, he should of gone to Sky last year. The BT football thing will probably flop. I am not a fan of female sports presenters (apart from to look at), their presenting style is too formal and they usually have appalling attempts at banter. Georgie Thompson, all the BBC female football commentators, Helen Chamberlain, Kirsty Gallagher, I could go on. Clare Baldings alrite but she's a bit more of a 'lad' than most women if you catch my drift, which helps her case. Natalie Sawyer is obviously fine, but she is more of an anchor than a presenter of individual sports events.

I admit this post is probably considered extremely sexist but I feel the same way when I see men presenting baking or cleaning shows... :sneakoff:

..............not a good start for Lewis...........crashes his Mercedes on first day of testing............

It's a shame for European F1 fans that there are so few 'easy' options these days. Spain, Monaco, Silverstone, Germany (Nurburgring), Turkey (if brought in), Hungary, Belgium, Italy are the only races left. I'd love to do Monaco but the cost is astronomical. Nurburgring and Spa are awkward to get to. Spain and Turkey seldom produce good races. I've been to the rest and don't like repeating trips. Monza is brilliant. 20 minutes on the train from Milan and it stops just by the entrance at Lesmo (a slight that my seat was on the other side of the track!). Slightly disappointed that they took out the race in New York for 2013 as I'd have been very tempted by the Canada-America double and the Australia-Malaysia double is far too expensive.

I don't know if they will do Valencia again this year (am I right in assuming they haven't decided the European GP yet?) but a month or so before the race last year they had a 3 day stay in a 4 star hotel, flights, transport and race tickets to both Saturday and Sunday for something like £160 a person on Groupon. Unfortunately by the time I saw it was sold out plus I was skint anyway.

Valencia and Barcelona are alternating. Besides, I'm not a fan of that circuit.
Turkey is set to be the added GP, from what I've read. It's the worst of the soulless bowls in my view.

Formula 1 2013

I'm going to put a few £'s on Lewis Hamilton for the WDC, Mercedes have been pretty strong all through testing, apart from the first couple of days. Lewis pulled out a 1.20'5 in testing today to finish the quickest, that's quicker than last years pole at Barcelona by a long way (1.21'7, Lewis Hamilton in a McLaren, but was moved back), I know the tyres are softer and quicker this year, but in qualy last year you could use DRS where you liked, and I as far as far as I know todays time was only on the main straight. All the teams are faster than last year, but Mercedes seem to have jumped forward a good amount. Im sure RB, Ferrari, Mclaren will out develope them as the season goes on, but can see Lewis getting a few wins, and being right up there when the season draws to a close.

Formula 1 2013

Testing is like pre-season. You can't tell.

I see there has been a driver change already at Marussia.

Formula 1 2013

A lot of the usual gamesmanship going on... like the way some of the teams are bigging up Mercedes and Hamilton to raise the pressure on them.

Formula 1 2013

Raikkonen wins in Australia. The Lotus, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes look decent.

Formula 1 2013

Yep. McLaren and Button really struggled. Hopefully the season is a lot closer than previous.

Formula 1 2013

That was quality! Had everything. Brawn and his redbull counterpart have some mediation courses to get their guys to attend....

Oh to be a fly on the wall at the Red Bull debrief...

What has happened for years, even in the days of team orders being banned, was that team-mates raced each other until the last pit-stop and then brought the cars home.

Formula 1 2013

I have a feeling webber may walk in the next couple of weeks after he has been surfing...He was sold the story that he was the equal to his teammate despite his team mate being world champion.. And now there is no trust in the team that orders will be followed on track!!! What action will red bull take will they be daring enough to suspend vetted for a race for disobeying team orders or sply have a word and issue a fine!!! Personnally if I was webber the only thing that would appease me would be a suspension!!! As he doesn't think of himself as a number two driver just wants an opportunity to race fair. Look at mercedes and what happened there Ross bawn controls the team and drivers which both drivers respect and understand one can see this in the Rosberg interview

Christian Horner said the exact same thing!

So one of the drivers overtook another in an attempt to win the race? And this is wrong? No wonder few people seem to give the sport any attention these days. the bloke who came second should have driven better and he'd have won instead of whining like a kid, correct?

Formula 1 2013

Almost right. First off the guy in second started grizzling to his bosses saying the guy in first was too slow and to get him to move out the way. If he was that slow he should have just overtaken the ****er lol

Formula 1 is a team sport. While fans cast a beady eye on the drivers' championship, the teams really care about the constructors championship. When you have your drivers one and two (or three and four etc.) with a few laps to go, you look to preserve that position. Webber had been told to turn the wick down, as had Vettel. He ignored those orders. Vettel and Webber have collided before. Do you think Red Bull (as a team) wanted them to collide, both go out leaving Mercedes to take a 1-2?

Formula 1 2013

We understand all that, but I do not think that is the point Houghton Bee is trying to make.

Oh yeah and the guy in 4th whinged to his boss about the guy in 3rd. But the team boss if you read between the lines said "if you do I will ****ing cut you.." so the guy in 4th stayed in fourth

It's bent like wrestling. It's about the constructirs machines and not the men in them so for me it's not a sport - put the drivers in exactly the same motor and then it's about individual ability, skill and it becomes a sport.

Formula 1 2013

Sorry if the team tell you to turn your engine down to save it for future races and your glory hunter team mate is also told the same thing you don't expect him to be attempting to get passed you!!! Webber completely in the right and will have to accept the apology and move on not holding a grudge or leave the team!!!

Formula 1 2013

Yes. The fact that the top 8 cars finished in pairs (save for one ferrari as the other had an accident) gives a bit of weight to that argument. Still fun to watch though, like theatre.

Plenty of motor sports already do this same car crap watch them if you want!!! Doesn't float my boat Personnally as I like the designers back in the factory busting there arses to improve the car for the next race with an upgrade!!! That is why it's a team sport because the role everyone does in the team matters

Back-to-back races makes that impossible but it's also a good thing as it punishes teams that make errors with their cars. Shipping the cars and the teams must take a fair bit of effort.

China (8am) marks the end of the early starts until Korea and Japan in October (7am starts). I miss the days when Australia started at 3am. Was great fun.

Getting used to those post-race interviews on the podium now. Was very good in Italy last year and good for the paying fans.

Don't watch F1 as don't think it's a sport, team or otherwise. You mention blokes labouring in a factory to improve the car, surely that proves my point, why not just have remote control or robots, it's not about the drivers anymore it's down to the car.

Might as well have Top Gear in a category as don't the three race different vehicles every other week- is that a sport ?
Finally, how can it be a competitive sport and straight when the drivers are instructed not to try and win?

..............yep.............I generally only watch the races until the first corner hoping for some impact/crashes.............after that it's generally quite boring..............

All motorsport is about the motor, whether standardised or not.

Formula 1 2013

It's not about the drivers any more blah blah blah!!!! It's not like watching Williams in the early nineties things have moved on!!! Last year seven different race winners in the first to races... In Abu dabi a few years ago four drivers had the possibility of winning the championship at the last race!!!
Robots and technology are part of every sport as is money!! Why did our Olympic team perform so well?? Because they threw money at it and invested in the best technology and sports science for athletes to us and adopt there training routines!! Sport is no longer about putting your trainers on and running faster than the next man or getting on a bike and winning the tour de france

Webber after a bit of thought will be laughing his b***ocks off...gloves now off, last year at Red Bull. Millions in the bank, Not the best of friends with Seb, Screw him.

If he does that do you really think red bull will give him a competitive car to compete??

Drive at Ferrari if he want's it.

Exactly why it isn't a sport, use robots and science to enhance and improve performance by all means. How can it be a genuine competitive sport if as you say a driver who is competing in an individual competition with a single winner can be nobbled by his tools?

So two top jockeys in the same stable one gets to race the better horse the other doesn't!! So does that make horse racing a hobby rather than a sport

Horse racing is corrupt as well but less obvious as about unpredictable animals and humans. They at least try and pretend they're attempting to win every race and don't publicly admit to race fixing while still in progress!

Still a chance whichever of them was leading could have made a mistake taking both of them out, less of a chance then actually racing each other obviously but the danger is still there. personally i'd be worried about having someone on my team that is happy to finish second if there is a chance of him winning the race, not to mention that sport is there to entertain people who have paid decent money for tickets to see a race not a boring 'after you sir, no after you sir' driving session.

mind you i cant stand watching the procession that passes as a race these days, only commented because i saw it on SSN, who were probably only making a big deal of it to get people to watch their racing channel.
