Formula 1 2015

Not good news for our resident F1 Oracle, Mr Salford Bee, a couple of days after celebrating his 21st (again), news comes in that his most favourite driver ever is being retained by McLaren.;)

Drivers agreed so far for next season:-

Mercedes - Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg
Red Bull - Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat
Williams - Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas
Ferrari - Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen
McLaren - Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button
Force India - Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez
Toro Rosso - Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz Jr
Lotus - Pastor Maldonado and Romain Grosjean
Sauber - Felipe Nasr and Marcus Ericsson

Hopefully another strong season for Williams. Toro Rosso could be an interesting one to watch with two , young, keen to impress drivers.

Presumably with the demise of Marussia and the shenanigans at Caterham there will only be 18 cars next year

Good to see JB keep his seat at McLaren. Two good drivers there now, with Alonso. Benson will spend a season to get the Honda engine up and running and that will probably be his last, with Magnusson coming back the season after - 2016.

I do wonder if Mercedes & McLaren, and maybe Williams, will be asked to run a third car? As Red Bull run 4, sort of, with Torro Rosso.... To make it a 20/21 car race.

Believe Ferrari and Red Bull would be the ones to.

Giedo van der Garde wins his appeal against Sauber, effectively forcing them to give him a car for the weekend.

That's going to be interesting. I can't see any records being broken on pit stops.

I am excited about this weekend. I have not paid a lot of attention to this year's silly season though. Anyone want to give a good update on the off-season?

Vettel has moved 28 points including paying off the spread for coming 3rd. Grosjean gets no points and moves 4 points including paying off the spread. I just cashed out now i only have rosberg for the rest of the season lol

Great for the sport that Ferrari are so competitive. If they can keep it up it's going to be a good season

I forgot how much I grew to hate that finger in 2013! Fair play. Mercs dropped the ball. Vettel took advantage. It needed that after an opening race where the warm-up laps were more dramatic.

Not a very exciting race, the main highlight was both the Williams in the top 6.
Need the McLarens to step it up alot. Hopefully Honda will pull their finger out.
Red Bull having a disaster, lapped by their old driver and an uneasy relationship with their engine supplier.

It's only really worth watching for the starts, and to see how many cars can take each other out.

27 points lead four races in. Long way to go still but that's a stupendous start for the current champion.

I have to agree.
No German grand prix, now Monza is saying it can't or won't pay what Bernie is asking.

I've moaned about this on several occasions. As someone who goes to watch races abroad, the best I've been to have been Monza and Montreal. They share similar characteristics in my view.

1. They're both fast circuits that rely heavily on braking ability.
2. They're unforgiving - make a mistake and you're heavily punished (not so much now they've lost a few gravel traps).
3. The atmosphere is special.
4. The fans are passionate.
5. They're in, or nearby, big cities. Monza is a 20 minute train journey from Milan, while Montreal is on the Metro.

I look to do a different race each year and I've been struggling for 2015.

Australia - Too expensive and too far to justify a long weekend, even if I did spend a few days prior there
Malaysia - Same
China - Same - Malaysia and China would be considered if back-to-back.
Bahrain - Same
Spain - Not a fan of the track
Monaco - Cheaper to go to Malaysia
Canada - Went last year
Austria - Too remote
Silverstone - Been there, done that
Hungary - Was a bit drab when I went (not helped by season dominated by Schumacher/Ferrari)
Belgium - Would love to do but, again, it's not easy to get to.
Italy - Went in 2012.
Singapore - Tempting. Works as a back-to-back with Japan
Japan - Went in 2013 as a back-to-back with Korea. Great place. Just a long, long flight.
Russia - Little interest
USA - Austin not a place that excites me
Mexico - Would work as a double but can't afford it this year
Brazil - See Australia
Abu Dhabi - See Monaco but further

Anyone fancy taking my ticket for this today ? The body is aching from two days out here so far and I'm not sure I'll survive another having to endure watching on a boat by the chicane.

How is Spa difficult to get to? If you haven't been you are missing one of the all time great circuits, just a few hours drive from Calais or one of the Belgium/Dutch ports. The beer doesn't come much better and when I went we stayed just over the border in Germany in a small town that had some summer festival running in the evenings, it was a collectively brilliant few days

I don't drive, which is the problem.

I've driven Spa, when it had the old Bus Stop chicane. It is a beautiful circuit.

Agree, Spa is one of my favourite GP's to get to/be at. Great weekend away

I'd love to go, don't get me wrong. Would probably watch the race from Les Combes and practice at the mighty Eau Rouge.

Really enjoyable. Great start from Williams but Hamilton deserved it for rolling the dice with that tyre change. My parents have been there all weekend and said the atmosphere and ambience there this year has been unreal.
