When you look back to what was set up when we got Grigg let's go for something similar
£4 mill up front ( all paid not stage payments)
£10k for each of the first 10 appearances
£25k for the next 10 appearances
£50k for the next. 20 appearances
£500k if promoted to Premiership
15% of any sell on
Realistically (and it's probably been said before) the players market value is just that. We can't easily up the fee a few million because Everton are going to be taking a big slice just so we get a decent return, yes it would be nice but the buyer aint gonna swallow it.
So we don't sell. Simples
Personally I don't think the sell on to Everton is in any way relevant to the value of the player, however the question asks what would I accept in this situation. I think for us to receive 1-2M for one of our players is something we have not experienced ver often and it is a lot of money for a player Bees player. I also think that the unsettling part is the worst aspect of it as he will now be a disruptive influence on our squad so this creates a quandary.
If we let him go for less than 2 we only see 1 Million of it and the Wigan tactics have worked, however we are now in a position where we may not be able to utilise him so should we cut our losses? Matybe we need to go to Wigan and say make it 2M to us and you give Everton their part of the sell on in installments and FO.
When does 'sell on' stop applying?Where's this 40% from?
Don't be surprised if it's a little higher....
£3 mill. Plus 25% of sell on. Plus £500k for promotion to Prem within his contracted period.

I mean, if Everton had a 50% sell-on clause, that means they get 50% of the fee Wigan pay...
... but when Wigan decide to sell him, does that mean Everton continue to get 50% of whatever fee Wigan get for him?
Can someone inform me how it works?
He is a very good player who looks likely to make the step up to a higher level. There's still a chance he may not, though. So I would structure as such:
£5m up front
£1m if promoted to Premiership in first season
£500k if promoted in future seasons when AF is still at the club
50% of any profit on up front fee
£500k after 10 appearances, 20, 30, 40 and 50.
Possible total before sell on: £8.5m
Everton get £2.5m, leaving us maximum of £6m
You cannot keep a player who doesn't want to be here anymore. Better to take the money and get on with it.
I'm sorry but you can if he's under contract and the club(s) making the offers haven't matched your valuation. True you may have a very p'd off player but rather that than declaring to all and sundry that our star players are there for the taking whatever the price and methods used.
Name a player who has been told, no, and then left to rot in the reserves?
You cannot keep a footballer who wants to leave. It will impact on other players at the club plus it could be seen in poor light for those wanting to join the club. Once a player wants to go, you have to let them move on.
So what are you suggesting that we should be prepared to let Adam, Jake, Tarks all go for a few hundred thousand and start all over again?

Unfortunately as I keep on banging on, contracts not worth f*** all. I can see a dangerous precedent if we let Adam go cheap as bigger clubs will offer silly wages to the player and peanuts to the club and if we release players in case they're unhappy we're f*****
I've no idea if this is true or not but an Everton fan told me on another forum that when Everton sold James Wallace to Tranmere a couple of years ago, the sell on percentage due to Everton on a future transfer was 80%. Forshaw and Wallace are the same age and were at Everton together for years I think.
But of course everything in undisclosed so that will never be an issue.
I very much doubt that, I believe the legal limit is 50% of the profit. Did we pay for AF?
Im starting to question whether Brentford have shot themselves in the foot on this one. 50% sell on fee has stitched us right up. The more i think about it you can't really flog a player for £6m because you want the profit you think you're owed before the next club. He is worth a standard fee & sadly we will have to shut up & accept it. I reckon we'll get £2m or less for a class player. That is sh!t. Im gutted. Assombalonga & Maguire gone for more.
When Peterborough sell their top assets, they always go for 5-8million. They get this price because everybody knows that to buy a Peterborough player you have to pay top dollar. This transfer will set a precedent for any offers on our players in the next 10 years potentially. We do not want clubs thinking they can get our players for a "fair" price. We need to be strong and make it clear that if you want our top players, you pay "our" price. Forshaw has 2 years to run on his contract and should the window close without him moving, it is obvious that he will have to get his head straightened and work his way back into the first team. This "you can't keep an unhappy player" is, in my opinion, b***ocks. He is under contract and doesn't have a release clause. Quarantining him whilst it is resolved is EXACTLY the right thing to do and will ensure things work out for the best for BRENTFORD.

Absolutely. Forshaw is the League 1 player of the year and anyone who wants him should have to put up the figure that his status warrants. The days when the club either had to take the first offer (out of necessity) or chose to accept a meagre offer because of impatience, are over. I trust MB to fight to realise the best value for him.
