i would be inclined to agree. since he left we gone downhill pretty fast. just out of interest when did he actually go.

His departure has made a huge difference. There is no doubt in my mind that he was as much a part of our success last season as Stevie C.
Equally, IMO he was as responsible for making GP a fortress as our transferral to the Brook Road end.
I really think it was rash of Wally to kick him out. I could also mention how appallingly I thought the club handled the whole matter...

However, without knowing exactly the situation regarding his leaving and the players opinions on it it is impossible to say.

No, he wasn't here long enough to see if he was good for the club, but there was a correlation between results and him leaving.

I think results have been more due to the amount of injuries/suspensions we've had recently and the lack of a consistent goalscorer than enything else....

I think Forzoni going is bad long-term. I cannot see how Wally could let him go. What Mr.Cynical said is true, but could the suspensions have been avoided with Forzoni still at the club?

That doesnt matter if he has not had a club, his role at the club was vital in getting us into the 3rd spot in the division last year, he wouldn't have worked for England either.

Seems others are starting to think his departure was crucial. When the players were warming up he looked professional, they looked confident. My guess is Downes saw him as a threat, Noades saw him as a wage that could be cut. But it is hard to know seeing as we've never been told exactly what did happen.

Steve Coppell paid tribute to RF's skills in last week's Brighton programme.
Funny that they have won their last 4 home games and risen out of the bottom 3 since he arrived - obviously nothing to do with Forzoni !

Can anyone do the sums on how we did this season before he went and how we did afterwards.

OK lets look at the facts. (although bear in mind there are lies, damn lies and statistics). I have to say though I find these fairly damning in terms of the influence Forzoni and Downes respectively have had this season and extremely worrying for next year.
Forzoni left immediately before the Crewe away game this year after an alleged bust up with Downes. (I say alleged because the club have never seen fit to make any comment on it).
Before he left these were the results (league games only)
Played 17, won, 8, Drew 5, Lost 4. For 24, Against 18.
(in those 17 league games we scored more than 1 goal 6 times)
After he left we have played 20 league games
Played 20, Won, 4, Drew, 5, Lost 11, For 14, Against 26.
(in those 20 games we have scored more than 1 goal twice).
If we had shown the same form for the whole season as we have shown since he left, we would have by now around 31 points and would be well clear at the bottom.
Lets not be too hasty about Wally being the new messiah. On this evidence he could take us down by Christmas next year.

We seem to do nothing else but play midfield ping pong - biff, bang, back and forth - and then hoof balls forward to people that aren't there.
I've always held back on McCammon since Wally Downes is working on a Noades-inspired shoestring, but it's time someone dropped this waste of space so-called striker. He spends most of the game making half-hearted challenges, falling over, or getting knocked off the ball by defenders half his size. He can't shoot, can't head, and somebody is labouring under the delusion that by running about like a headless chicken he creates space.
Peters on an off day has more talent than McCammon at his peak.
But like I say, who the hell coaches this lot?

The facts are there for all to see....our results before and after Forzonis 'disappearance'.
The fact that he is now at Brighton and their results have suddenly improved must be more than coincidence.
He is obviously well thought of by Coppell, and out of Coppell and Downes I know whose judgement I would always stand by.
Much was made early this year and last about the team-spirit, from what I have seen of late its evaporated.
There are teams in our run-in who have been involved in a relegation scrap all season, they will be full of fight and spirit against us and we will be there for the taking.
Seven points off the relegation zone....two more defeats and we could be right down there. Downes needs to get heads-up and re-kindle the fight from earlier this year otherwise we are going down without a shadow of a doubt.
Over-reaction.....I think not....we havent scored more than once in a league game since the 14th December and we can no longer rely on a watertight defence.
I pray that dispensing with Forzoni wont turn-out to be the pivotal point in our season....but from where I'm sitting it looks like he may have been the real foundation for our season.

I know whose judgment I'd choose out of Coppell and Downes - I wonder if anyone would have to think twice about that one.
Re-Thompson - where did he take Bristol Rovers to last year? 23rd I believe - A position that would get them relegated this year. Believe me with the players he had last year they should have done better.
Do the players miss RF? What do they think of Downes / Thompson / Stannard I'd like to know.
I hope I'm wrong, but are we being coached in the Bassett at Wimbledon era, rather than the Wenger at Arsenal era?
I wouldn't be too harsh on Downes yet, if he keeps us up we've done well

It certainly seems that we're missing something as a team since his departure. Plus I can't believe yet another former member of the Bees playing/coaching staff has ended up @ Brighton!
