Free-kicks

Why do we persist with the same free-kick routine whereby the ball is knocked for Frampton and O'Connor to just "blast" the ball into the wall? I can only assume that something magical happens in training that I'm not party to, because as far as I can see, these two are not exactly the two best strikers of ball.

You cannot tell me we wouldn't have more luck with Tabb attempting to curl the ball around / over the wall? It's at best irritating, at worst infuriating to know that every time we are awarded a free-kick within shooting distance, within moments the opposition will be running away with the ball into our own half.

Free-kicks

Standard of set pieces under MA is the worst I can remember under any manager.

Our free kick routine described above is a complete joke.

Free-kicks

Yes set pieces are poor under MA. could do with a tips from Perryman or Coppell in that respect.

Free-kicks

Was saying exactly this just yesterday ... really need someone who knows there stuff to work with the two lads on this in training as we should be getting 4 or 5 "free" goals a seasion from this and at the moment we haven't had any :nono:

Free-kicks

We'll have to back to the "argument "used in the late 60's! rofl rofl

Free-kicks

have to agree.
our free kicks this season are absolute toilet!
everytime frampton just hits it straight at the wall.
gayle used to hit a great free kick can't he show the others how to do it in training???

Free-kicks

the problem is we are more of a fighting team with a bit of quality, but we do not have somebody who can actually put a ball down and hit one or curl it up and over the wall. we aint that sort of side

Free-kicks

theres a player in every sunday league side in the country who is their sides 'freekick specialist' so i cannot believe we dont have a single player who cannot hit one on target.

Spot on !! :sorted:

Free-kicks

And before Frampton it was Dobson blasting it into the wall. Frankly, one of the most unimaginitive and depressing things you can see on a football pitch.

Free-kicks

Why not Brooker...he delivers a decent corner kick???.........................

Free-kicks

when was the last time we got a goal from a free-kick...was it Derby in the cup?

Bristol away in the cup last year

Free-kicks

i agree with the free kick pooness for once the short touch is made, the wall just charge framptons shot down, but even so in reply to guildford bee saying framps and kev are not the best strikers of the ball - if you so happen to go to the training ground you will find Framps has the best shot in the team!

Personally however, i think in those positions outside the box, Tabby (or Framps) should either smash one or curl one.

Free-kicks

Why doesn't Tabb take more of them? Placement over power anytime (as Frank Lampard demonstrated on Saturday).

lol doesn't mean they're any good though.

Free-kicks

I used to be a "free kick specialist" for my Sunday morning side, and I used to get my fair share of goals.

Sadly, this was more to do with the goalkeeper's ability rather than my prowess. I didn't have to worry about those annoying things like pace and curl because on target towards a corner was usually enough. It's a bit tougher against a keeper who might actually put himself in the right position and be able to dive a bit.

Free-kicks

thats a fair point but we never actually even test the keeper to see if he saves it.

Just had to comment on this b***ocks!

What are you talking about?! You are telling me out of 10 outfield players, who play week in week out, we do not have anyone who can curl one round the wall? As has been mentioned, you get people at Sunday League level doing it.

Free-kicks

Tabb can. Brooker looks like he might be able to.

What about Rankin, couple of his goals for us have been long (ish) range curlers?

Free-kicks

If we were ever 3-0 up in the 90th minute then i bet Nelson could break the net.....

Free-kicks

just been watching my video form when we won the old division 3. Marcus Gayle has some fantastic floating free kick goals which fly in slow motion to the top corner. I shall refer to them from now on as the "dink".

Tabb and/or Brooker for me too!
At least they wouldn`t just thump the ball hard and straight.

They arn't exactly that great at corners (not beating the first defender) so what makes you think that they could beat a wall stood alot closer :nono:
