Meet The Ref - Brentford


Steve Tanner from Somerset is Friday's referee; Steve became a Football league ref in 2003 and this season he averages 4 Yellow Cards every game. This will be his second visit to the White Rock; his last visit was back in September when the Swans beat Barnsley 3-1.

In the 6 Swansea games that Steve Tanner has refereed in he has produced 4 red cards, 3 for the opposition team.

Doesn't sound too promising, does it!!

We had Tanner for the LDV against Oxford didn't we? Had so many bookings for **** all, and their players kick lumps and get nothing, and their outrageous celebrations at the end (did they know where their fans were ) only had one player booked.

Is it the same guy?

Thank God we have never seen this guy before or since. There was something about Brentford that wound him up. He really did not like us or our style of play and penalised us accordingly.

And he was true to form tonight. He seemed determined to carry on giving Swansea free-kicks on the edge of our penalty area until they scored from one. And finally they did!

He gave them one in the first half that Nelson saved for a corner. From the corner Tabby got the ball and dribbled out of the box only to be bowled over...for which the ref gave them another free kick!!

Booked Rankin for diving when it looked a pretty clear penalty to me. Thought he was sh*te.

He was appalling, didnt give us anything all night. The yellow card for Newman was a joke too...

Terrible reffereeing display.

Talk about a 'homer'.

The foul for their winning free kick was a joke and booking Newman for a good tackle was even worse.

Even the Swansea boys i met up with after the game thought he gave us nothing all night.

Whilst Martin Allen may well agree that we may have been hard done-by, I believe that he will have the attitude that Friday is now in the past, we can't change what happened, and that we have to look (and move) forwards, starting with Gillingham on Tuesday evening.....hopefully they will still be shell-shocked after the pasting they took at Bristol on Saturday, and that they won't have recovered their composure until Saturday, when hopefully they'll sh*t all over Swansea

He was typical of many modern referees, picky to the nth degree about petty fouls that nobody else sees ( particularly around the edge of the box) yet bottles or simply misses it when a big decision is needed.

He booked Rankin so it simply justified his decision not to give a penalty and how come he didn't book or even send off their player who did a WWF impression on Tillen?
