Sweepy OUT!

We also beat Orient who then went and won at Millwall  Friendlies count for nout :)

It's a friendly and thats all, talk about fickle. These games are about fitness and formations. I think we have done better than usual this year. :owusu:

Friendly v Yeading

Owusu tucked home an excellent cross by Paul Brooker. But apart from that, I thought he played a lot better on Saturday. Overall we were pants and the youth side that took over after an hour did a lot better (held them to 0-0 in the last 30 minutes). Hard to draw any positives from this outing other than (a) Owusu scored :owusu: and (b) O'Connor and Hutch is unlikely to be our first, second or even third choice midfield when the real stuff starts.

Alan Mullery was at the game, scouting presumably. And so was Carl Hutchings, probably not scouting.

Friendly v Yeading

Tap in from a low cross, did well to get in front of the defender. He was fired up. Bodes well for the season.

I went along as I had nowt to do on a Monday night. It was cack although Martin was quite entertaining in the 1st half.

I think it'd be fair to say his opinion of Hutch's performance was along Bee H lines. :D

YESS!!! At last the penny appears to be dropping!!

Great news that :owusu: scored!! He was beginning to look more himself on Sat so hopefully that will boost his confidence. Bit worrying that Oli and Newman didnt make it again. Don't want to be starting the season with Kev and Hutch in midfield..

There's a game tomorrow evening too. This was the last friendly to be scheduled and therefore I would think doesn't rate too highly in the grand scheme of pre-season plans - hence why the youth team played one-third of the game.

Friendly v Yeading

Think Owusu and Campbell will be a handful for any defence this season. I wouldn't fancy racing Campbell round the block for a tenner :sorted:

Friendly v Yeading

****ing ell.. what's wrong with you people. It's like you're almost disappointed that there hasn't been a series of posts slagging off the team for losing a friendly, so you can all do your standard mount of your high horses. So to recap for those individuals sad enough to be looking for a fight:-

German Bee said:
O h well at least OWUSUUUUUUUUUUUU scored.
Que the doom and gloom merchants. We're going down!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
Owusu is crap blah blah blah

To which my automatic response was, quite understandably:-

The King said:
I'm sticking to the principle that pre-season matches shouldn't be over-analysed.

Which reinforces German Bee's view from a less critical angle, basically translating into:- Don't read too much into the result.

So what that I also added that it was a bit disappointing that we didn't hold Yeading closer, especially with what appeared to be a closest first team out there. Is that really such a bad thing to write? Or is any sort of critical questioning banned once again for season 2005/06?

Still there are a few more critical remarks for the anorak regime to get their teeth into now (thank you Mr Cynical and... Edmundo?!!! ). lol

It was clear to me that Yeading was well up for this game and they played aggressivley from the off. They played very very well as a team should do.It looked like to me that the Yeading team had been playing together for years and all there team was helping each other with every touch of the ball.
A great display by Yeading and I am sure they will be champions of the Confrence south.
As for brentford a good physical work out for the older squad members as the yeading team at times ran rings round them.
I am very happy we got taught a good lesson by the Yeading players in playing as a team and helping each other as much as they could.
Positives out of the match
Fitness test = Excellent
Youngsters = the future is very very bright.
Lessons hopefully the team have learned that they must play as a team and all want to win for each other as Yeading clearly showed.

I am pleased in a way that the bees will learn a lot after this game and start the season very well.

The only scouting Hutchins was doing was for a former tennant (aka cheeta-un-gowa) that owes him rent.

Yeading Trialists???

Unfortunately I was unable to make last nights game but have seen a number of trialists in our line up...Shoedine and Kiki?

Where did they come from and are they any good?

Friendly v Yeading

I think we should be more worried about the 3 penalties we have given away in 3 games! Could be down to the defence not having much faith in our reserve keepers?!?
But :owusu: is off the mark!!!!

Kiki is apparently Mauritian and looked very good. He is however so short that his shorts went down to his socks!!

Fixture Type: Academy League U10s Venue: Away

Match Date: Sat 06 Mar 2004 Date: Sat 06 Mar 2004. Palace U19s 0 Charlton U19s 2

Charlton's U19 side ensured their title bid is not yet over with one of their performances of the season on Saturday morning.
The Addicks, battling it out at the top of the FA Premier Academy League with Southampton, produced a display littered with fine passing and exceptional movement.

And it was a wonder how the young Eagles got out of the game at their training ground on the wrong end of such a modest scoreline.

Charlton were ahead as early as the fifth minute when towering centre-half Emmanuel Shodeinde rose supremely to head home Fred Wilson's free-kick, and it could have been 2-0 moments later when Sebastian Ndombe went close from a Nathan Ashton centre.

Charlton: Elliot, Cottrell, Kamara, Shodeinde, Ashton (Shielis 60), Fuller, Long, Wilson, Beckford, Walker, Ndombe (Phillips 46).

right... i'm sending my season tickets back... :mad2:

I can't see too much wrong with that line-up. Apart from Charles and Masters, you have something resembling a full starting XI there.

Okay, so it would seem Hutch had a bad game according to reaction. Aren't friendlies for building up sharpness? And if he really has lost the form of last season, isn't Skualson able to play in his position anyway?

As for O'Connor and Rankin, what have they suddenly done wrong? O'Connor was a solid performer last season. As for Rankin, I was rounded on for criticising him last season!

Friendly v Yeading

Don't think you do.

You sure it's possible Hutch has "lost the form of last season"? What form was that?

I think the problem people had with O'Connor is simply doubts about his ability to control from the centre of midfield where he was against Yeading. A useful experiment but the reviews aren't great. As a right back, he gets the nod over Dobson - though Michael seems to be regaining fitness and possibly form.

I think you'll find a great many were disappointed that Rankin didn't turn out to be what we all dreamed he'd be. Sorry if you feel like you were picked out for saying this also.

...Dangerous, you do realise that my post was pretty light-hearted joshing surely? I have been to one pre-season ever. I get to as many away-days as work allows. I'm definitely not trying to compete with your commitment!

No I saw your points on Eddie Hutch on this thread and as this thread is lacking points of veiw from brentford fans who went last night I thought you may have gone as you seem to know that he has lost his form.

Friendly v Yeading

:) I didn't say he had. I asked a question as to whether this was, based on "last season", a possibility. To slow it down for you: I don't really rate him very highly.

Sorry if it was confusing for you.
