Fruit Machines?

Are there fruit machines in Stripes?

I have to confess I haven't been in there yet :nono: so I don't know.

The missus was reading through the Bees United promotional leaflets which came through the post the other day, discussing fund raising ideas, when she mentioned that the social club in Cheam makes over £60,000 a year per fruit machine, and do they have them at GP.

If there aren't any, maybe it would be a good idea to buy a few to go in Stripes. Granted that the £60k is from seven days in a week, but even £5/10k a year from one machine would be a boost.

If there are, I've wasted 5 mins typing this, but it's worth it just in case.

Just checked out prices and buying one would cost £100-£500 for a new one, so it would be a huge return if we could a couple.

I have a mate who is in the gaming machine world.It is a very cut throat business.You will find that you have to end up renting a machine rather than buying one and the company that you rent from will want a cut from the machines takings.However,I am more than happy to speak to my mate if this is an avenue that Bees United wish to look at.

Obviously we don't want to get into a situation where it's costing the club money to have the machines in Stripes, but I think with the bar becoming a more prominent feature of GP both on match days and other occasions, it could well be a profit making avenue.

There are places to buy the machines outright, several of which I found just doing a quick search on the internet, but whether they're reliable enough to run independently or it's better to rent I don't know.

The problem with buying these things is finding someone to come out and fix the thing if it packs up.You do not want to even consider going down the second hand route.

Very true, maybe if a new one could be bought then it might come with a guarantee or something if it goes wrong in the first year or so. Second hand is definitely not worth the risk.

The gambling licence could be the real downfall to my idea, I didn't think of that, no idea how much it would cost but we can't really afford to be shelling out many thousands with no guranteed pay back.

Those fixed odds machines they have in the bookies that play blackjack, roulette and quiz thingies are supposed to be a gold mine. I don't know where / how you would go about getting one though.

When I was at bookies, we had to have licence per machine. I recall it being around £600 per year. Coupled up with the cost of machine hire, there is no guarantee of a return.

I do not see it being in the interests of the company offering to hire the machine to request a profit share.

I was thinking of PM'ing Stedders about this very subject..

My Old Man used to own a pub and it was his biggest earner after the beer.. yes ofcourse there is a rental charge, but the returns are unbelievable (which is why I never play pub machines, I've seen what the Old Man used to make from them..)

I reckon its a good idea, as long as Stripes is going to be used more than once every other week..

I would imagine the gaming companies would snap your hands off with quotes..

There`s a social club near me which does a "Take Your Pick" draw every Sunday lunchtime. Tickets are £1 each and its drawn just like a raffle.

The prizes are all cash, choice of opening one of 10 unmarked envelopes. Usually 1 contains £1k, a couple have £200 (more sometimes) and 7 contain £50.

I guess they lose out occasionally when the £1k gets won but over the long term it must produce a good return by the law of averages, and the tickets always sell very well.

Wonder if this could be an idea for
matchdays in Stripes :idea:

Fruit machines have to be a good idea, they keep many social clubs alive, and the benefits will surely outweigh the costs.

The main thing though is that they have to be accessible. If Stripes isn't open very often they won't get used, perhaps this needs to be addressed first.

This is what prompted me to express doubts.

I used to take out anything between £1.50 and £150.00 gross profit on a given day - that is in a Betting shop open from 10am to 5pm plus. In a football bar open a couple of times a week tops, my concern is making a profit could prove to be a struggle.

I think it's worth a trial, but not something the club should sign up to long term until their viability has been assessed.

I was some years back on a committe of a social club, and fruit machines were the life support of the club.
Clubs are allowed gaming machines that have bigger payouts than those in pubs and so they tend to attract some big players. They used have a guarantee 75% payout therefore every £100 taken is £25 to the club less rental. However most social clubs are open 7 evenings a week, but it was only weekends that there were lots of people there. So if Stripes could open every Friday, Saturday & Sunday lunch time? This could be quite a money spinner.

What about the Roulette and numbers games that are out now, very addictive and money spinning ventures?
