Future Coaches
Which current player(s) do you think most likely to be a manager or coach of the future? It's not always obvious. Greatness on the field does not automatically translate to greatness in the dugout. A brilliant scientist does not always make a brilliant Science teacher. Some take you by surprise. I wouldn't have expected Hoddle or Mark Hughes to become managers, for example. Some great players try and fail. Bobby Charlton gave it a go at PNE and didn't cut it.
Difficult to call, but I have been struck by two players recently both in terms of their ability to communicate eloquently about the game and in the evidence they show that they are deep thinkers on the subject. Romaine Sawyers is one. A little quiet you may think, but a man with clear vision and an embryonic leader as well. The other is Ander Herrera who I think has coach written all over him. Time will tell. And I'm often wrong about these things: I had pencilled Danny Murphy in to be Fulham manager years ago, but it looks like he's not going to follow that path.
