Apparently when Staines played us pre-season they were going to off load Tomlin cos he had been sh*te, was sh*te and always will be sh*te...they couldnt believe it when BFC wanted him...they pissed themselves laughing...

got this from a horses mouth

Gavin Tomlin

And yet he appeared to be a right find after a very good performance at Northampton.
Sadly a very false dawn.

Gavin Tomlin

Well this was one of leroy,s signings you cant be that surprised, lol the ****** didnt have a clue.
And the chickens are now coming home too roost !!!:(

Gavin Tomlin

How many games has he started for us and how many as sub?

When he signed he was announced as one for the future and I didn't expect much from him this year.

Frankly, I never expected much from him next year, the year after that, the year after that...[goes on ad infinitum...]

On a par with Winegum and Onion Bhaji as one of the worst buys/loans this club has ever made. That's quite some record you've got there, Leroy:eek:

Erm, this is total crap. Tomlin was a free agent. His last club was Windsor and Eton plus had played for Yeading before he left Staines.

I suggest you check your facts. We're in enough trouble as it is without nonsense like this.

Gavin Tomlin

He is a cheap gamble that may or may not come off.

I would prefer we signed more of them from nonleague rather than expensive superannuated donkeys like Heywood that are a drain on our patience and resources.

:imwith: and if we can sign them on one year deals with an option on our side then even better.

I agree Mark, yet again another load of bullsh*t made up by someone in the early hours of the morning after a heavy night on the babycham.....:nono:

agreed he was not on their books, but they had decided he wasnt good enough for their books either, my posting was ambiguous and could have implied that he was registered with staines...no he was effectively on trial and they didnt like what they saw and were dumping him...only for us to sign him...

I know it was not you that said this but this aint no late night rant on the babycham....baby on the way yes...staying up due to nerves yes...

keeping my fellow fans informed of what I have heard...from a staines official...yes

Gavin Tomlin

While he hasn't impressed, the (presumably) small amount we are paying him was probably worth a gamble and he hasn't been a major factor in our awful form

GB I am with Mark and NLB on this one and would go further and say as I have done before that this guy will be sold for a fee to a higher league club by Jan window next season.
Now is not the time for one so young to have all the responsibility thrown on their shoulders. It does not matter if it is Ide or Tomlin on the right they are both better players than Brooker. Gavin is a top lad with huge potential and a massive inner confidence. However he is a team player and wont have stones thrown at Brooker whom he really respects even if some of us dont.
I can see him playing up front as well as on the right particularly if we sign a big target man for him and Kuffour to play off.
Definately one that will come on as Campbell did, the difference is Campbell went through his "teething spell" in pro football as part of a successful side and in these forward thinking players confidence is a key ingredient.
Tomlin, Moore, Kuffour and dare I say it at present, Griffiths were / are or will be very good acquisitions to the club IMHO

Gavin Tomlin

I was just passing on what I had been told...no malice intended...merely information...

...they apparently did piss themselves laughing though...(sadly this is not crap..we were the laughing stock)...however I am sure there are some on here who will want to deny this and want only to debate the merits of micturition during laughter and whether that warrants the use of certain phrases.

I look forward to the time when we can say he who laughs last...and all that

I don't think Tomlin's done that bad, he just needs to work on control...

Gavin Tomlin

he has looked lively busy and energetic when i have seen him, with some pace and thought. i was surprised he wasn't in the team more - as at least his running on the ball gives the crowd a bit of a lift!

Gavin Tomlin

Tomlin v many others signed over the years..... let's give an example of a piss poor signing recently : Newman ( ), the list could go on , I know I would much prefer Tomlin to many signed over the last two seasons...you can't expect a non league player to show league 1 playing skills and above in his first few matches, give the bloke a chance for gods sake - he certainly has not been the worst signing of the many that LR made!

Gavin Tomlin

He hasn't done a lot - either for good or ill

His main problem is he has come into a dire team

In a list of factors behind our downfall he doesn't merit a footnote

(However given balance of the squad etc. I'm not sure he was the wisest signing)

Gavin Tomlin

I think he got great potential. Anyway Staines Town have an impecable record of holding on to great talent don't they:rolleyes:

But not by us it would seem???

In my humble opinion, and I also went to the Northampton match, Tomlin never looked like a professional footballer. He may be able to run around fast, this seems to be the quality that many supporters go for, but that's not good enough... anyway, we have a lot of players who run around a lot without ever looking like they can do a job.

Thanks expert.

I think most people liked hi ball control and the fact that the Cobblers LB was losing his rag as Tomlin took the p!ss. I hope this puts me in your smug section of understanding football.

Lads....Gavin Tomlin wasn't even good enough to get into the Yeading starting 11

The only reason Brentford signed him was because his agent was buddys with Leroy Rosenior.

Unfortunately in football it's not what you know it's who you know!

One of those posts where you say one thing one day and f*ck! the Manager goes and puts him up for transfer the next.
He was not at training today so maybe someone is interested?:sorted:
I rate him highly and think he has been
a) unlucky to have kuffour ahead of him in his preferred position
b) too respectful of others particularly Brooker in not jabbing his finger in Leroy's chest (especially if their mates!) and demanding to get more games on the right when Brooker was clearly out of form and whilst Ide was out on loan.

My opinions of him are based on seeing him shine in training, at Harrow Borough and in the six games or so he has played and I still believe if and this is a big IF (apparently) his attitude is right and he can show that he cares and wants to be a Pro Footballer, that he will still go on to be a lively forward at this level at least!
If the worst happened and Jo was sold we could do worse than to give him a go upfront of a big guy! IMHO

What was going on at training today...( apart from training of course..:D )

Gavin Tomlin

I cant understand how people can be sure of a player that has only played such a small amount of games at this level - and in a side that is struggling.

Tomlin appears to have a lot going for him, if his attitude is right, he gets a bit of luck and his confidence rises I could see him progressing.

Need to see lots more of him though, but I have thought that in spurts he can look an exciting prospect.

Monday
pretty much an 3/4 pace day for most of last saturdays starting eleven.
Those involved in todays friendly (ie reserves) were put through a fitness programme by Scott, John and the other guy whose name escapes me.
First team played football cricket which is a good team game and morale building. Then into a Seven a side match of four halves of about 12 mins each.
Two hours in total including stretching, warm up and some stamina work!

Sorry I am back to day job today!

Gavin Tomlin

you might be laughing on the other side of your face next January! who knows? If he gets his attitude right he might end up staying, which I doubt, because the lad has one ingredient clubs look for....pace!
If we cant nurture him and bring him on I still believe someone else will!

Gavin Tomlin

Sorry I am back to day job today!

Don't be sorry, why not suggest to your Boss that you increase your hours and that they take away any intraweb access at work to help you concentrate on your job ?

Oh Dear!

Gavin Tomlin

Back to topic but I do think that there is a player in Tomlin somewhere.

Gavin Tomlin

There is a more effective player in Scott Fitzgerald junior than him that we got out on loan and arent using, desperate times and all that

Surely not that desperate.

Gavin Tomlin

I think we are. We cant buy a goal and that is all Fitz does, poach goals. If only from the bench at least it would be worth it if he nicked a goal in a game like at Bournemouth saturday.

I personally think if we played him bit - part in games until the end of the season he would still probably score more than Willock, he scored only 1 less on his debut than willock has managed in his Bees Career!
