Re: Gazza Quits

I heard he was going back to Scotland again. I would be a bit worried if I were a BU fan with the current managers comments.

Re: Gazza Quits

Gazza's a man I have enormous empathy and now respect for. I wish him well.

Re: Gazza Quits

I was at Wembley when he scored that goal against Scotland. Fantastic player.

Off-topic but Boston's website looks a lot nicer than ours :D

Re: Gazza Quits

When you've played for Boston United you've done it all. There's nothing more for Gascoigne to prove. ...except maybe Stranraer or Elgin City! Yeah! Imagine the thrill of running out on the pitch hearing the roar of 241 throats in your ears. ;) :crazy3:

Re: Gazza Quits

Good luck to him. A man who knows he's wasted his best playing years but possibly enjoying the happiest with himself and that, after all, is what counts.

I'm afraid I tend towards this opinion these days. :( Hasn't been able to "apply" himself to anything long term for ages and has flitted about from club to club searching for something that will "fulfill" him. Sad. :(

Re: Gazza Quits

Or shaving? What's with the beard?

Gazza

Re: Gazza Quits

rofl Bigot Bee at the pictures! Gazza is a legend.

That beard however is terrible, it's worse than mine :D

Gazza

:( Gazza has some serious demons in his head

Gazza

That looks so sad, and unfortunately he doesn't look long for this World.

Gazza

Just really sad. Thats all i can really muster. Seen far too many people struggle with similar demons and unfortunately a few who dont find a way back

Gazza

Very, very sad and I can’t help but feel sorry for him as he’s been a man to be pitied for 20 years now.
Amazed he’s still with us and he has had mental health issues from a very young age as well as his well documented re fuelling problems.
I fear every time I see his name in the press that it’s going to be telling us the worst

Same as...when i saw this was back to top of the thread i feared the worst :(

one of the greatest players ive seen personally playing and a proper character...but with big issues even in the early days...the raul moat incident was totally jaw dropping...incredibly funny and sad at the same time !

Gazza

I’m very sad to see the video - but is anyone really surprised?
it’s what we all suspected really, the number of times he’s knocked alcohol on the head, but still he ages at an alarming rate. Something else was, inevitably, up.

It’s all ifs and buts and nuts, but I sometimes think if playing under Alex Ferguson, would have been good for him. Forcing him in the right path etc

You have to also question the mentality of someone that films this, and puts it out there.

Agree. I prefer to forget the back catalogue and try and remember just what a gifted, special talent he was.
In different circumstances he would have got into any World best 11 in any decade

100% I felt the guy filming it half knew what type of video would come out.
It was obvious Gazza was pissed/high.

Remember Chris Evans and Danny Baker taking him out on the drink around Euro 96.

Too many people suck the life out of him and not many have been there to see him through the dark patches.

I actually feel a lot of people and organisations have tried to assist Gazza but he is clearly now beyond help

Yep. He's had more help than most. Desperately sad to see but it does appear he is beyond help at this point.

I doubt it, he always had mental problems and was always going to have a drink problem. I don't know how Ferguson would have stopped him drinking and spiralling when he retired.

I don't think he can stop. You can put him in rehab and he will have all the best intentions in the world but as soon as he is home it is a matter of time before he can resist it again. He will end up like George Best sadly. A top player and by all accounts a generous and top bloke too.

A bit like George Best.

Sadly I fear the outcome will be the same.

Difference is that Gazza occasionally falls off the wagon but then goes months sober, whereas Best was on the pop in large quantities every day. Hope Gazza pulls through, a proper legend.

....that's a very good point mate...and true....if Paul's benders last a few days, then he stays off the drink for several months.....he might actually outlive us all lol

One of the first things Fergie did was get rid of two of their best players in McGrath and Whiteside because of their drinking habits and affect it had on the squad.

Good point FJ.

He is coming out here as special guest at the ibrox bar on June 22nd

Ditto, he’s still with us but I’m unsure of his mental state at the moment. It sounds like he’s not even denying or apologising but trying to justify. I’m not sure he even thinks he’s done anything wrong. He’s been in a mess before but not sure how much lower he can sink.

I still feel sorry for him even though I know he probably doesn’t deserve it and will have received far more love, support and expensive professional care than most.

Same here. Yes his problems are very much self inflicted, but its very sad to see the situation he has been in for the last few decades.

Gazza

He's had plenty of opportunities to get his sh*t together. I still think they should have let him at Raoul Moat with his fishing rod and bag of chicken. That's how he should have gone out, not like this, slowly wasting away in his own demented sh*t. Tragic.
