In a way glad India lost. They need to stop producing wickets that they are incapable of playing in. Lost a test against Australia last year, England this year and now soundly beaten by a decent NZ side. Why would a team produce these wickets when they have the best fast bowler in the world in Bumrah who was largely ineffective this test.

Fatboy and Kohli need to step up - both have been utterly crap in the Bangladesh and NZ tests and need to justify their place.

The funny thing is India's strength are more suited to beating Australia away than winning on spinning wickets at home.

Very "Alice in Wonderland".

Crazy that several retained (contracted) England players cannot get a sniff.

Haines of Sussex is a very decent opening batsman (sic)in his mid 20s but cannot get a go.

General Cricket Thread

Looks like we are trying to shoehorn white ball players into our test team which is all well and good for scoring rates but test matches are played over 5 days (weather permitting..) - seems a strange pick given he averages 25 in first class cricket

Brainless cricket there by India in the last two overs. First time I will admit that Kohli’s form/ commitment is a worry. If he doesn’t have a good BGT tour then questions marks will need to be asked about his and Rohit’s place in the team, especially if India don’t make the WTC final.

General Cricket Thread

NZ over 100 lead with 6 wickets down. They have been wonderful in this series. Series gone but India realistically have to win this test to have any chance of reaching the WTC finals. SA I think have got one place with 4 home tests to go.

Saw this on Twitter earlier today.

Test matches.

Smith 6973 at 64.6
Kohli 7066 at 54.8
Williamson 6163 at 51.6
Root 7043 at 47.9

Now
Smith 9685 at 57.0
Williamson 8881 at 54.5
Root 12754 at 51.0
Kohli 9039 at 48.1

Last 5 years
Williamson 2718 at 60.4
Root 5711 at 55.4
Smith 2712 at 47.3
Kohli 1973 at 33.4

The decline in Kohli runs/ average since Covid has been massive. What this doesn’t tell and goes back to my comment on the WI thread is that Root has played 63 tests matches v 41 for Smith and 36 for Kohli. Taking nothing away from Root but he has played very little white ball cricket since the 2019 WC Final and focused purely on red ball cricket. I guess he had no choice considering the amount of test match cricket England play. But a remarkable turnaround.

Kohli if he carried on the rate of centuries he scored between 2014-2019 he would have smashed Sachin record of 100 international 100’s by now. He still is the only batsmen to average 50 across all formats and the fastest ever player to score 27k international runs but needs to make a decision whether his last 2/3 years he focuses on family (life in London) v cricket.

India 29-5 ? absolute rubbish ! Can’t remember them have a worst series at home ever.

General Cricket Thread

Game on at lunch. India recover to 92-6 thanks entirely to Rishabh Pant with 53 from 50 balls. 55 needed for India to win.

General Cricket Thread

That is a very poor review from New Zealand, a great one to get rid of Pant, but they may ncome back to haunt them.

30 runs for India to win, 3 wickets for New Zealand.

General Cricket Thread

That was a very poor shot from Ashwin, considering the situation.

India 8 down with 26 needed.

General Cricket Thread

Phillips 2 in 2.

121-9.

On a hat-trick to win the Test.

General Cricket Thread

Fantastic series win for New Zealand.

General Cricket Thread

Fair play to NZ. Probably their best ever series win. No one would have imagined them winning 3-0. Feel for Pant. The rest of the Indian batsmen were just rubbish.

General Cricket Thread

India never been clean swept in a 3 test series at home so it ranks amongst the best series wins for anybody not just NZ IMHO I was looking forward to NZ v Eng series but quite worried now.

General Cricket Thread

Arguably the greatest test series win of all time.

Wow wasnt expecting that thought India would save face. One of the great shocks in test cricket. @Indian Bee what do you think will happen to the seniors. Wonder if this is it for Kohli.

Not just Kohli, there'll be a few others that should be worried too, maybe take the captaincy off of Rohit Sharma and give it to Pant, who was probably India's Man of the Series.

Who knows. The annoying part with Kohli I have is that he got back into test form (was by far the best batsmen for the SA tour) but for personal reason and understandably) missed the test series against England. You can’t just go straight into red ball cricket as he did not playing this format for over 9 months. He needed some ranji trophy games behind him. He has a wonderful record in Australia and these pitches should suit him. Let’s see post that series.

I thought Rohit’s captaincy was poor throughout and the selection baffling. It all started in Bangalore, win toss bat first and bowled out for 46. The batting with some exceptions has been rubbish. Should have played an extra seamer in Bangalore. India should stop producing wickets that make average spinners world beaters. They are better than that.

Rohit should go but not sure he will. Jadeja I think will be our only spinner in Australia although I would like it to be Kuldeep. Ashwin rarely gets a game in Australia or England and not in the white ball teams so potentially could be it for him. Tough decisions over the next couple of weeks on the squad. India are still a very good team but not playing to their strengths.

Tickets on sale this week to members for tests at the Oval next Summer.
Normally I would expect around £90 for one day (block 6 or 7)
This time the same seats would be £130!

I guess it's the India Premium but this is quite a hike!

Don't won't to speak too soon, and it is Pakistan we are talking about here, bvutr in their second ODI, at Adelaide, they have Australia 130-8.

Aussies resting their Test Match players for the third ODI, as they have a Test Match series with India coming up.
A great chance for Pakistan to win a one day series in Australia.

My view is clear on this. If India are not prepared to play in Pakistan then they should not be part of the Champions Trophy.

Yes i also agree. The tournament should go on none of this hybrid nonsense. Im sure the Indian players want to go as do the board but its a government decision and whilst Modi is around i dont expect anything to change.

Time for the ICC to stand up to the BCCI and kick them out of the tournament.

I agree. Bookmark this I am agreeing with @super J. If India are not prepared to play in Pakistan then they should not be included in the tournament. You can't have a tournament where one team is not prepared to play at the host venue.

Quite amazing end to the T20 between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Chasing 109 to win SL were 101-7 going in to the last over, but managed to lose three wickets for two runs, and lose by 5 runs.

India are not travelling to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy
Pakistan will not allow games outside Pakistan
TV money won't work without either of them

Sigh.

Going to be interesting how this plays out in the next couple of days.

I said my piece above and if ICC accommodate India’s preference they will look weak but a tournament without India, cricket will lose so much revenue.

I think the purpose of the Champions Trophy is/was to fund the ICC development programme. So if it doesn't happen - and it likely not to happen if India don't go, as the TV revenue disappears - it will be the emerging nations and possibly women's cricket that will suffer. Not sure the men will miss it, given it's a format they hardly play now. Not sure the ICC will miss it either.

Just off on some travel but the Border-Gavaskar Trophy test series starts less than a week. Probably deserves its own thread as it’s a bigger series than the ashes #facts ?

India have to win 4-0 to guarantee a spot in the WTC final but highly unlikely. Pant and Kohli (his farewell Australia test tour) to star with the bat and be interesting to see how Jaiswal copes. First big test for him. Sadly, onus will be on Bumrah to take the wickets and Shami absent for at least the first two tests huge loss.

Prediction 2-2 and Aussies will cheat and by the end of the series no one will be wiser where the Champions Trophy will be held.

Showing my age now, but the County Cricket fixtures used to be out before the end of the previous season.

I do remember picking up a piece of paper with the fixtures on it at the Oval Test Match which was late in August...

Twitter seems to think Thursday 21st November for the fix

I'm not going to the oval again this summer due to the price. I can afford it and want to go. But if we just accept these prices it will just continue and it's an absolute rip off. If it rains and there's 25 overs of play you get nothing back.

Think most of my time Watching England in future will be abroad.
