I reckon Brook, looking at the squad, Salt and Duckett needs to be kept doing their job, Maybe bethell or smith but this has come up too early for them. Brook captains at county level and the hundred.

I'd rather leave Harry Brook alone for a while but he does seem the obvious choice from limited options.

thats the thing, but who else, only looking at Duckett or maybe even Salt but those would be poor choices IMO

Anyone heard from Rob Key? He was doing all the media rounds in the summer of 2022. Was in Pakistan but nowhere to be heard. Has he lost his voice? His former Sky mates won’t call him out.

Buttler is a decent guy and the best white ball batter England has ever produced. Captaincy just wasn’t for him.

You still going at it. England left the chat on Wednesday

Not sure we need India in this chat.

Joe Root temporarily???
I don't know how many ODIs we actually have in the near future but I doubt Root is getting into the T20 side. I assume they want the same captain for both formats.

Mmmm good point...looks like Brook the only choice I guess

When I saw that it immediately made me think of this Champions Trophy 2025: Impressive India win but tournament shows cricket at risk of apathy

There's so much cricket now. A one off exhibition test is just going to add to the meh. It's not that important feeling.
Agree 100% - I'm not sure why the Champions Trophy needs to be a thing when you have T20 WC's every 2 years and 50 over WC every 4 years. Cricket is now played all year round and is at risk of saturation with all the T20 franchise cricket and now T10 franchise as well. Money, money, money...

Think that it hadn't been played for over 10 years. Wasn't the greatest tournament ever but still much more interesting than most Tn franchise tournaments.

8 years but that was due to Covid preventing the 2021 edition so it is basically another 50 over WC without the smaller nations - seems pointless to me

No less pointless than any franchise cricket but I understand your point.

I like the champions trophy more then the world cup as the format is better.

However it was farcical this time which has ruined its reputation.

Agree about the over saturisation but think we can continue with it.

Would be like the Euros and the world cup. A major international tournament every 2 years.

The t20 world cup is a bit of a laugh ultimately no one takes it that seriously.

I always felt a bit sorry for MacGill, world class leggy born at the wrong time!
He would have walked into any other side in the world, including India!

@TW3Bee good win for your boys here after being thrashed first couple of games. Can't remember when Pakistan won a white ball game so I am sure you were happy?

@Jam Jar any insight on Hassan Nawaz? Never heard of him before but looks from afar a top innings.

I should add that Pakistan were 75-1 after the first power play and in all their T20s international games ever that is their highest power play score ever. I am sure @TW3Bee is delighted to hear this after their Champions Trophy flop. Hope it has given him some comfort.

Not much insight not wanting to dampen things but ive seen this a lot with Pakistani players who burst on the scene then the hype machine goes into full effect and a player like that rests on his laurels.

I did watch the highlights and loved his intent he was lucky not to get out on a few occasions but seems to have a good head on his shoulders him and Saim Ayub could be a great combo

Pakistan need a transition over the next couple of years and certainly try out younger players and build the side around them. Won’t be a bad thing to lose a few if the aim going forward is to be competitive in all formats.

Heather Knight leaves role as England womens captain - Sciver-Brunt clear favourite and rightly so IMHO

What has happened to the English womens setup, seems to have gone to absolute s*it in the last few years.

Well firstly fitness not up to standard and was rightly called out by Alex Hartley - this also impacts fielding standards in general which were appalling in the Ashes

Watching the IPL in the background. Looks like Salt enjoys batting with the greatest all formatted batter ever ?

Sunrisers going to get close to the highest IPL score - currently 273-4 with 1 over left, need 15 to break their own record
