My son played alongside a similarly gifted Afghan lad at Wycombe House when they were about 13. Looked like he was going to be an absolute world beater. Was being compared to former WH graduates, Ben Scott and Owais Shah, in terms of talent. Seems to have come to nothing, sadly (although I must admit I can't remember his name).

On a serious note, he has been great for test cricket, ensuring India take it seriously and treat it is a priority that Dhoni never did.

Whilst undoubtedly the best white ball player ever, for me he was never quite the same level in tests and his average proves he's below the likes of Tendulkar, Lara and Ponting.

It is a shame to not have the big names of Kohli and Rohit Sharma this summer, though India have so much talent I am sure it will still be a good series.

Best Indian test captain by a country mile and made us competitive overseas where we could win on any pitch and any condition. Personally felt he could have had a 2nd peak in test cricket but he left on his terms and didn’t chase records as Sachin did. A family man that will now settle in London where his daughter already has started nursery and to get away from the limelight and the vile social media he has to contend with. Will go down as a legend of the game. Not sure we will see anyone like him again that played test cricket and brought it to the masses that he did.
