The blast and 50 ovef cup are basically done already. The bigger worry is will the championship and England games in general follow suit.
Around 70% of revenue from cricket in England comes from test matches so they're not going to die anytime soon (not in this country anyway).

Agree. But they've already given up the main real estate of the summer. So will they just be shunted further. As let's face it the great thing about British sport is we will go to anything at any time!

Well played Somerset .

Very impressive performance again .

Div One

Notts are Champions

Worcs are relegated

Looking like Durham will join them unless they beat Yorkshire

Surrey very likely to finish 2nd

General Cricket Thread

Maybe not

If Hampshire lose...

If Hants lose and Durham and Yorkshire battle to a draw the south coast club will be relegated into the second tier for the first time since 2011.

Pakistan Zindabad.
But I fear an absolute thrashing, but at least it might last 30 overs with Pakistan batting first.

Pakistan showing why they are clearly a tier 3 cricket side along with Bangladesh, Ireland and the USA.. Scoring 33 off the last 7 overs when well set at 112/1 - Pathetic beyond belief they are mentally owned by India and their record in T20's against other established nations is also beyond embarrasing.

Been a stalwart for England over the past 14 years and probably underrated by many.

I think it was clear that not being picked for the Ashes was going to be the final straw but I wish him the best for the rest of his career however that looks 👏
Hadn't he been ruled out anyway? When he got his injury in the Oval test I thought then we may have seen the last of him.

Good career, the word stalwart which everyone is using underplays him a bit imo.

Nepal bowl West Indies out for 83 and win the series.

A new low for the WI but congratulations to the Nepalese.

To think West Indies were competitive at the top in T20 not so long ago.

New format of cricket 2 teams play 20 overs twice in a day.....

Test Twenty fuses the strategic depth of Test cricket with the speed and spectacle of T20 - a format played over 80 overs, featuring two innings of 20 overs per side, with scores carried forward across innings. Each team bats twice, just like in a Test match, reviving the art of building a game while keeping play concise, dynamic, and broadcast-friendly.

The rules of both Test and T20 cricket apply, with a few refined adjustments to suit the new format. Matches can conclude in a win, loss, tie, or draw, ensuring that every contest retains the full spectrum of cricket’s drama and unpredictability. It’s fast, strategic, and immersive - a format where every over and every decision matters.

The first full season of Test Twenty debuts in January 2026, featuring six high profile global franchises - three international (Dubai, London, and a U.S. city) and three Indian (franchise-choice cities). Each franchise will be backed by a next-generation celebrity stakeholder (“star-kid”), powered by broadcast innovation, and fuelled by talent discovered through the Junior Test Twenty Championship™ (JTTC) - an annual tournament - the world’s largest youth cricket discovery platform spanning 50+ nations.

More than a format, Test Twenty is a youth-first global movement, opening the doors of opportunity to young cricketers aged 13 to 19 from every corner of the world. Players are assessed purely on skill, data, and merit through a multi-tiered, analytics-based selection process, leading to an elite auction pool for franchise selection.

Can never have too many of those to my mind.

( p.s., what are they?)

I know the West Indies have had some talented spin bowlers in the past, Lance Gibbs, Ramadhin and Valentine etc. But wonder if you said mid-1980s to a WI Cricket fan, that one day they’d be the first team to bowl 50 overs of spin in a ODI, what their reaction would be?

Certainly not this week as Hurricane Melissa likely to do serious damage to the islands. If anyone has family or friends hope they stay safe

No idea when England will next tour, will only be for the short format white ball though at least the next 2/3 years.

Looking at the ICC future tours program, which goes through to March 27, there are no england tours planned for the Caribbean.
Thanks... that's why I asked...because I couldn't see anything...ah well.

Women's WC semi-final looking like the Aussies are about to get beaten by India. 8 required from 12 balls with 5 wickets left.

Such a shame 😜

India win by 5 wickets with 9 balls left.

Great effort from India.

Maybe test match pitches should be inspected before the start of the match,or an impartial witness watches preparation of the pitch.

It makes a change from 550 playing v 500 in a batsman friendly pitch
There needs to be a balance.
Pitches dont seem to really deteriorate much now, so needs to be a good deck for the first couple of days, then offer spinner assistance from day 4 onwards.
Proper.TEST pitches that involve every player.
