General Knowledge Quiz Night

The next BU Quiz night will be held on Thursday 28th September at 7.30 (for 8 o'clock start) in Stripes.

Entry is £30 per team, payable on the night. Please enter your team (of 4 persons only) by adding you team to this thread, or pm'ing me direct. Each team must include at least 2 persons who are either season-ticket holders, or BU or Lifeline members. This is so that the winning team can accept their prize of .........

Free entry into a London Football Club Quiz team challenge that I am also arranging for friday December the 8th.

The London Football Club Quiz challenge is an invitation event for all London Football Clubs supporters associations which I am arranging, and which I am hoping will become an annual event in the supporters club calendar, raising extra funds for BU, raising the profile of Stripes, and supporting BFC in the community. There will be a trophy awarded annualy for this event.

This is an excellent opportunity for you and your team to represent BFC in a quiz event (and win it!!!).

So, get your team entered now (we have spaces for approx 25 teams), get swotting, and may the best team win.

I know the Chit Chat Four will be entering this prized competition but I am going to have to rule myself out I am afraid, hoping that this won't be a problem as there are loads of geeks on the waiting list! :computer:

I intend to either be :zzzzz: that night, or dodging projectile sh*ts :)

General Knowledge Quiz Night

A reminder, now I am back from holiday, that the next General Knowledge Quiz night will be held in Stripes on Thursday September 28th. All teams are welcome, especially new ones.

I will put up a list of entered teams over the weekend.

General Knowledge Quiz Night

I'm over in Sept. Myself Mads Bee and her hubby could put out a team, but we need one more member. Any takers?

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Rod, Les Quizerables will be making their debut at the quiz. I'll pm you with details later if I may but can you reserve a place on the winner's podium for us.

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Forgot about this, had a ticket lined up for the Spurs v Prague game :banghead: oh well stick us down Rod as having a team entered

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Thanks to all for your unstinting suport.

Teams entered so far are.....

Rugrats and the melons
Goals, Goals, goals
Micks team
BU team (????)
Chitchat 4
Usual suspects
Natashas Team
Chippendales team
Les Quizerables
Bee H's team

Plenty of spaces left for more team entries, includng those who have said to me they will put teams together but have't done so yet.

For anyone thinking of putting in a team who hasn't entered one before, the evening is a fun one, and you don't have to be a boffin to take part. more importantly, it raises a small amount of cash for BU.

This time, there is also, I believe, a pretty good prize involved.

So get your team entered now.

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Less than 2 weeks to the quiz now, so I guess I will have to start thinking up some brain-stretching questions for you....

For those of you have haven't entered a team yet I do try to make all questions ones that are either on the periphery of your memory, or ones you could make a good stab at even if you don't know the answer. I dont tend to use quiz books for the questions, as that's boring. There are always music and visual rounds as well as "read out" questions.

As a taster to what will be occuring try these questions.....( and then if you haven't done so, enter your team!)

Q- What is the least number of hits of a ball required for a tennis player to wn a conventional set of tennis?

Q- What does the name LL Cool J stand for?

Q-By what is the principal church of a diocese better known?

Q- Where might you regularly expect to find whorls and arches?

Remember, teams have about 30 seconds or so to answer each question so you need to have the answers at your fingertips ( especially question 4).

Get your team entered, and see you in a fortnight.

Q- What is the least number of hits of a ball required for a tennis player to wn a conventional set of tennis?

Q- Where might you regularly expect to find whorls and arches?

12

Fingers

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Might be struggling with this now I'm afraid due to pending/overdue move of the business - will let ye know a bit nearer the date :(

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Q- What is the least number of hits of a ball required for a tennis player to wn a conventional set of tennis?
36, I reckon. 4 aces in the service games x 3 + the same number of points in received games, where the ball needs to be hit twice (once by the server once by the receiver, or a double fault). Unless you are allowing for air shots to be counted in which case the answer is 12.

PS what's an unconventional set of tennis?

General Knowledge Quiz Night

So I got it right then Ed.

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Yes - unless Rod meant that a convential set of tennis was one where players were able to hit the ball and not completely useless.

General Knowledge Quiz Night

:D That will do!!

I think he meant a conventional set as in the first too six games and must win by two at least. Instead of another type of set played down the park or by kids, which can contain as many or few games as the players want and still be called a set by said players :)

I think it's to avoid the answer: 0 which it would be if the other player got penalised a set for abusing his racket three times directly after a previous set had finished (or during/after the warm up etc.)
