lol lol Now that IS funny, but you said it not me...

I do indeed know how much stress Mr Bee H has been under and he was ever so nice to me about losing my job..

I've heard he's on five bottles of red a day now too...

I think it's to avoid the answer: 0 which it would be if the other player got penalised a set for abusing his racket three times directly after a previous set had finished (or during/after the warm up etc.)

Sounds more sensible.

Q- What is the least number of hits of a ball required for a tennis player to wn a conventional set of tennis?

Negative Umondo.

You can read it either way. It is fair to read it for how many hits from THAT tennis player.

And more importantly, the ****ing answer is 12!!!!!!!!!!!!! :banghead:

General Knowledge Quiz Night

I bet Rod is glad he rejected this question :D

General Knowledge Quiz Night

lol Classic GPG thread. Poor Rod

You can be foot-faulted without until you have hit the ball

From the BBC

A 'foot fault' is called if any of the following happens before the ball is struck:

The feet touch the ground inside the baseline

The feet touch the wrong side of the centre mark OR

The feet touch the wrong side of the imaginary extension of the sideline.
A foot fault is the same as a fault on a serve so the player is given the chance of a second serve.

General Knowledge Quiz Night

the ball HAS to be struck still

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Negative nocoat. I think it is fair to say that if it meant only hits by the player winning the set it would have said "Q- What is the least number of hits of a ball required by a tennis player to win a conventional set of tennis?"

"Tennis player" is singular.

So the answer is 12.

You've quoted my suggested rewrite of the question, not the original, dumbo! The answer is 12 if it's rewritten as such, otherwise it's 36.

... or 12 if the other person foot-faults and misses the ball in attempting every serve.

Did you want to read the original question again then Ed?

Please see my original answer.
36, I reckon. 4 aces in the service games x 3 + the same number of points in received games, where the ball needs to be hit twice (once by the server once by the receiver, or a double fault). Unless you are allowing for air shots to be counted in which case the answer is 12.

Please add 'BU gigs team' to your list, Rod.

With questions like this I think we'll be defending our
usual last place! lol
Can we have another nice booby prize please? Those
doughnuts last time were delicious! :sorted:

As regards the tennis question...I'm more interested in
knowing how many touches of the ball does it take for Brentford FC
to win a game! lol

I used the word conventional before some clever clogs used the answer one ( as in first player serves, opponent retires hurt). The answer is 12 (as Mr "I'm gonna give up smoking as soon as the baby arrives"(????) correctly stated). 12 aces or unreturned serves on the players own service, and 12 double faults by the opponent on their service games.

Another one for you lads......

Q) In AD 129 Lucius Minius became Spains first Olympic Champion. But at which sport??

Don't forget, if you want more of this sort of thing, get your quiz team entered NOW!

General Knowledge Quiz Night

Thanks for clearing that up Rod. I think the question wasn't clear about whether it was all hits, or only hits by the player winning the set, as it referred to the number of times the ball was hit, rather than the number of times a player had to hit the ball to win a set. Anyway, I haven't a clue about Senor Minius and googling hasn't helped!

Not sure Spain existed in AD129!

What is the maximum score a player can get in Snooker?

General Knowledge Quiz Night

:nono: Negative That is the maximum break. The maximum score is infiinity

General Knowledge Quiz Night

155. Two fouls then a maximum clearance. Might be wrong but if you foul three times in a row game over..I'm probably well wrong there:wave:
